16、thandflexibilityallowthetubetobehandledeasily,soitcanbe bentaroundobstacles,forexamplewithinthehumananatomy.However,notallflexibletubesshowthesame behaviourduringbending.Sometubescanbendconsiderablywithoutkinkingi.ewithoutcollapsingandthereby drasticallyreducingthecrosssectionalarea,whileotherskinke
17、asily.Incatheterapplications,thisreductionofthe flowareacancauseseverereductionintheflowoffluids. 1Scope ThisEuropeanStandardspecifiestestmethodsforkinkingpropertiesforsinglelumencathetersandmedicaltubing, aspresentedforclinicaluse,whenbentinasingleplane.Itisrecognizedthatotherforcese.g.twistingwill
18、influence thebehaviouroftheproduct,butnostandardtestmethodsareyetavailable.Itisalsorecognizedthatsuchtubingcan beusedtotransportliquidsorgases.However,waterisusedasastandardtestmedium,asthepurposeofthis standardistoensureuniformityintheevaluationoftubingkinkproperties.
