EN 15494:2007 (E) 4 Introduction Candles have accompanied mankind for more than 2 000 years serving above all as a light source. Closely connected to the development history of the candle are the efforts m
15、ade to improve its quality and its safety in use. Discussions in the past and present over possible self-forming, harmful emissions and fires caused by unsafe candles and/or inappropriate use during the burning of candles have led to consumers concern for these issues. Most fire damage caused by can
16、dles can be attributed to improper use by the consumer. The fire risk of the candle due to inappropriate use can be minimized by suitable warnings for the consumer. These warnings should be easily and non-verbally comprehensible. EN 15494:2007 (E) 5 1 Scope This European standard specifies product s
17、afety labels for burning indoor candles. 2 Product safety labels 2.1 Safety information The messages specified in Table 1 represent the minimum safety information with which a candle can be labelled. This safety information shall be given on a product safety label in the form of a symbol (see Table
18、1, 1st column) or text (see Table 1, 2nd column). It shall be visible and legible on the packaging or product. In cases that the safety labelling on the packaging or product is not practical, an instruction leaflet shall be available at the point of sale. EN 15494:2007 (E) 6 Table 1 Mandatory safety

NOTE The number of optional symbols or texts used for a candle should be based on risk assessment. 2.2 Layout of a product safety label A product safety l
22、abel for candles consists of the following components: Form 1: General warning sign (see Figure 5) and supplementary safety information symbol (see Table 1, 1st column and Table A.1, 1st column); or Form 2: General warning sign (see Figure 5) and supplementary safety information text (see Table 1, 2
23、nd column and Table A.1, 2nd column).
