、Part 1 is intended to serve as a general document and deals with features that are likely to be common requirements for most tools. Subsequent Parts of this standard will cover details of the tools prepared as separate documents and may call up some or all of the requirements and tests of this Part

、1, deleting such as are not applicable and adding others when necessary. Among additional requirements to be specified in the detail tool specification may be the following: type of frame; dimensions and other particulars of dies, indentors, etc; methods of, and devices for, the location of componen

、ts during the crimping operation; test requirements, including details of test pieces; and/or die gauging methods; part numbering systems, including additional marking requirements; ordering information, including number of tool specification, tool and die references, as applicable. Compliance with

、this Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. 1 Scope Part 1 of this European Standard specifies general requirements and tests for hand crimping tools for operation within an ambient temperature range of15 C to + 40 C. 2 Normative references This European Standard incorpo

、whenever practicable, shall comply with the requirements of appropriate European Standards. 4.2 Component parts Parts of hand crimping tools shall be resistant to corrosion and, where necessary, be subjected to an appropriate protective treatment. 4.3 Tool operation Tools shall operate and correctly

、 form the crimp without damaging the component to be crimped. On completion of the crimp, the handles and dies or indentors shall automatically return to the fully open position. 4.4 Removable parts Removable parts, such as crimping dies and location devices shall be designed or marked to ensure tha

、t they can only be fitted to the tool in the correct manner. 4.5 Clearance and access Tools shall provide sufficient clearance around the crimp area to permit insertion and withdrawal of components to be crimped without the use of additional tooling. 4.6 Location Means shall be provided for the prop

、er location of components during the crimping operation. 4.7 Alignment Tools, dies and indentors shall be designed so that the alignment between moving parts meets the requirements of the relevant Part2of this Standard. 4.8 Full closure mechanism Tools shall incorporate a full closure mechanism. 4.9

、 Emergency release If an emergency release is fitted, it shall be so designed as to require specialist intervention before the tool is returned to normal use. 4.10 Adjustment The tool design shall be such that no adjustment can be made other than permitted by the relevant Part2of this Standard. 4.11

、 Jamming Tools shall operate freely and without any part jamming so as to impair function during normal operation. 4.12 Workmanship Tools and all parts shall be made and finished so as to be free from defects that could affect performance. There shall be no sharp edges, burrs or other defects of pot

、ential hazard to the operator. 4.13 Code marking The completed joint should, where practicable, be marked in accordance with the code prescribed in the relevant Part 2 of this standard, to identify the size of the crimping tool or die. Such marking, which shallbe applied during the formation of the

、crimp, may be embossed or indented. 4.14 Lubrication Any lubricants employed for ensuring the correct operation of the tool, shall not contaminate the component parts of the connectors. 5 Classification and designation The classification and designation of crimping tools, their dies and any associat

、ed accessories are described in the relevant Part 2 of this Standard.EN50109-1:1995 6 BSI 03-2000 5.1 Tool marking Tools shall be marked to display the following information: identification of manufacturer or supplier; part or reference number; serial number; such other markings (which may be extend

、ed to dies and location devices intended for use with the tools) as may be required by the relevant Part 2 of this Standard. NOTEWhen drafting additional Parts 2, care should be taken that reference and marking systems are compatible, bearing in mind that the same tool may be used under more than on

、e of the Parts 2. 5.2 Ordering information The customer should specify the following: tool style reference; die references; packaging requirements; details of specific customer requirements. 5.3 User information Users are recommended to seek the advice of the manufacturer regarding the preferred mai

、ntenance and inspection procedures. Specific recommendations may also be included in relevant Parts 2 of this Standard. The tool manufacturer shall supply the following: full operating instructions with each tool; test pieces and their associated gauges if required by the user. These shall be no les

、s onerous than those specified in the relevant Part2; information on supply of user control gauges, if required by the user. 6 Tests and test methods 6.1 Test requirements Tests in accordance with 6.2 shall be made to prove compliance with the requirements of this European Standard. The tests are in

、tended as type tests and shall be repeated at intervals of not greater than six years. Selected tests for production and sampling purposes shall be repeated at intervals as prescribed in6.2,orin the relevant Part2, on samples from current production to confirm that the quality and performance of the

、 product continues to conform to the requirements of this Part1and the relevant Part2of this standard. 6.2 Type tests 6.2.1 Sample size Unless otherwise specified in the relevant Part2, three specimen tools and one set of piece parts shall be submitted to the tests in this clause. The tools shall be complete and ready for use in accordance with the relevant Part2. Where a tool, or tool series, covers a range of die sizes, the tests conducted shall include the largest size and the smallest size prescribed in the relevant Part2of this standard.
