、hanical components within the scope of IEC technical committee 48. This test may also be used for similar components when specified in a detail specification. The object of this test is to detail a standard method to assess the ability of a connector to withstand specified flame and vibration during

、 a 20 min exposure by providing specified electrical performance for the first 6 min of exposure and preventing the flame from penetrating the fireproof bulkhead on which the connector is mounted throughout the test. 2 Test equipment 2.1 An inspirator torch capable of producing and maintaining a fla

The primary cone diameter shall be 12,7 mm to 19 mm at the nozzle exit. The primary cone length shall be 38,1 mm to 63,5 mm from th

、e nozzle. The secondary cone shall engulf the test specimen or provide representative impingement coverage, depending on the size of the test specimen. 2.2 A gas flowmeter with a suitable range and an accuracy of 2 % of full scale is required. 2.3 A thermocouple with an exposed junction as shown in

、figure 1 and a temperature meter capable of continuously measuring 1 100 C 25 C, with an accuracy of 1 % of the reading, are required. 2.4 A firewall test fixture is required which provides a steel mounting plate on which to mount the fixed connector, a rigid steel fixture which provides for attachm

、ent of the connector mounting plate in a vertical plane on the table of a vibration machine and a thermal barrier sheet to prevent destructive heat transfer from the connector mounting plate to the vibration machine. Details of a suitable fixture are shown in figures 2, 3 and 4. 2.5 Vibration equipm

、ent is required which is capable of vibrating the test specimen and test fixture continuously at 33 Hz with a total excursion of 6,3 mm. 2.6 A current-regulated d.c. power supply is required which will provide test currents of between 5 A minimum and 150 A maximum, with a maximum open-circuit voltag

、e of 28 V d.c. 2.7 An a.c. power supply is required which has a center-tapped output transformer capable of producing 110/220 V to 130/260 V at 50 Hz to 60 Hz and capable of delivering a current of 2 A minimum. 4egaP 0002:20221506NE BSI072001 Page4 EN60512202:2000 BSI072001-21506-020002:CEI 2 5 2.8

、A multi-range undamped a.c. ammeter is required with an accuracy of 1 % of full scale, capable of measuring d.c. currents between 5 A and 150 A. 2.9 Two a.c. ammeters are required, both with 3 A full scale and an accuracy of 1 % at 2 A scale reading. 3 Test specimen 3.1 The test specimen shall consi

、st of a mated connector, fully wired with specified high- temperature wire and fitted with accessories having straight saddle-bar cable clamps. 3.2 Alternate contacts of the test specimen shall be connected to form two series circuits. 3.3 The test specimen shall be free of oil, grease, dirt and oth

、er foreign matter. Cleaning, if required, shall be performed with a non-combustible solvent. 3.4 The wire bundle shall be wrapped with plain untreated fiberglass tape (see figure 4) or other suitable means to protect the wire from the flame and to stabilize the interface between the wire bundle and

、the connector during the application of flame and vibration. This protective wrap shall extend under the cable clamp and should be as close as possible to the rear of the connector insulation. The protective wrap shall extend a minimum of 178 mm from the rear of the saddle clamp on the free connecto

、r. 4 Test procedure 4.1 The test specimen shall be secured to the connector mounting plate (see figures 2, 3 and 4). 4.2 The connector mounting plate and the thermal barrier sheet shall be secured to the firewall test fixture (see figure 3). 4.3 The firewall test fixture shall be secured to the vibr

、ation machine table (see figure 4). 4.4 The wire bundles on both ends of the test specimen shall be supported 200 mm to 250 mm from the cable clamp. 4.5 The wired connectors shall be connected in the test circuit as shown in figure 5 to monitor the electrical integrity of the test specimen in accord

、ance with 4.10. The connector shall be solidly earthed during the entire test. 4.6 The thermocouple shall be positioned as shown in figure 4. 4.7 All contacts of the test specimen shall be loaded with the applicable d.c. test current specified in table 1. The test current shall not be altered during

、 the test. 4.8 The torch and the thermocouple shall be mounted on a common pivot point. They shall be moved away from the test specimen so the flame does not contact the connector when the gas is ignited. The gas shall be ignited and the flow of gas shall be adjusted from 9,67 kW to 10,84 kW (33 000

、 Btu/h to 37 000 Btu/h). 5egaP 0002:20221506NE BSI072001 Page5 EN60512202:2000 BSI072001-21506-020002:CEI 2 6 4.9 The vibration machine shall be started and vibrated continuously at 33 Hz with a total excursion of 6,3 mm. 4.10 Flame and vibration test (20 min total duration) a) The torch and the the

、rmocouple shall be moved to the position shown in figure 4. When the temperature of the thermocouple reaches 1 100 C 25 C, the 20 min test period shall start. The gas flow and temperature shall be monitored throughout the test. b) The presence of flame on the protected side of the firewall, for any

、reason or from any source, during the entire 20 min of flame exposure, shall be observed and recorded. 4.10.1 Electrical performance test, 6 min (see figure 5) a) During the first 5 min of combined flame and vibration with switch 1 closed, the specified d.c. current shall be applied through all cont

、c. shall be applied for 1 min between each group of contacts and the shell by closing switch 2. The ammeters shall be observed for leakage currents, which shall not exceed 2 A. 4.10.2 Flame and vibration, continued, 14 min At the end of 6 min, the a.c. potential shall be removed and the flame and vi

、bration shall be continued for another 14 min for a total elapsed time of 20 min. 5 Warning 5.1 This procedure may involve hazardous materials, operations and equipment. This procedure does not pretend to address all safety problems associated with its use or all regulatory requirements. It is the r

、esponsibility of the user of this procedure to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory limitations before its use. 5.2 This test shall be conducted in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhalation of smoke and toxic products of combustion. Pers

、onnel and equipment shall be protected from the risk of fire. 6 Details to be specified When this test is required by the detail specification, the following details shall be specified: a) preparation of the specimen; b) cable/wire to be used; c) any deviation from the standard test method. 6egaP 00
