It isidentical to IEC 61300-2-52:2013.BSI, as a member of CEN, is obliged to publish EN 61300-2-52 as a BritishStandard. However, attention is drawn t
、o the fact that during the development of this European Standard, the UK committee voted againstits approval as a European Standard. The committee noted a possible inconsistency between clause 3, whichstates that optical measurements should be made before and after thetest, and clause 5.4, c) which
、states that optical measurements are alsomade during the test. The committee is also of the opinion that the mention of fibre, cable and resilient members being fixed together inclause 4.3 may not be appropriate for all fibre optic connectors. The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted by

、 cords 1 Scope This part of the IEC 61300 series describes a procedure to determine the suitability of a cord to withstand bending around a mandrel of the sort to be applied during normal use. This test is only applied to single fibre cables and multiple fibre circular cables. It is not applicable t

、vices and passive components Basic test and measurement procedures Part 3-4: Examinations and measurements Attenuation 3 General description The purpose of this test is to determine the capability of the cord when repeatedly bent. Optical measurements are made before and after the test to screen for
、 evidence of damage to the fibre/cable. 4 Apparatus 4.1 General A single mandrel apparatus shall enable the sample to be wrapped tangentially in a close helix around a single test mandrel. 4.2 Cord A cord is a fibre optic cable terminated with any passive fibre optic connector on both ends, regardle
、ss of its expected use. Examples include equipment cords, work area cords or patchcords. 36、-2-52 IEC:2013 4.3 Specimen The specimen shall be a cord. The connectors shall be terminated according to the manufacturers instructions so that the fibre, cable and resilient members are fixed together. 4.4 Optical measurements Unless otherwise specified, measuring equipment specified in IEC 61300-
、3-4 shall be connected to the specimen for monitoring optical performance during the test. 5 Procedure 5.1 General Sufficient tension shall be applied to ensure that the sample contours the mandrel. The sample shall then be unwrapped. A cycle consists of one wrapping and one unwrapping. The diameter
、 of the test mandrel, the number of turns of the mandrel and the number of cycles shall be shown in the relevant specification. 5.2 Preconditioning Precondition the specimen and all equipment for 2 h under standard test conditions as defined in IEC 61300-1, unless otherwise specified in the relevant
、 specification. 5.3 Initial examinations and measurements Complete the initial examinations and measurements. 5.4 Procedure a) Connect the specimen to the optical measurement equipment according to IEC 61300-3-3. b) The specimen shall be initially positioned as shown in Figure 1. The two straight se
、ctions shall be perpendicular to the mandrel and spacing between the two straight sections shall be such that the diameter of the loop is greater than the cables minimum bend diameter. c) Start the optical power measurements. d) The specimen shall be wrapped around the mandrel at a uniform tension s
、uch that there are no gaps between the cable and the mandrel during the bending cycles (see Figure 2). The required number of turns around the mandrel shall be applied. Each revolution of cable on the mandrel shall be close to the adjacent revolutions or cable wraps (see Figure 3). e) The specimen s
、hall be kept in this position for at least 1 min. f) The specimen shall be unwrapped and kept in this position for at least 1 min. g) The required number of cycles shall be applied by repeating steps d) to f) in a timely manner at a rate no greater than 1 wrap per minute. h) Stop optical power measu

Visually check (IEC 61300-3-1) that the cable and fibre optic device are not damaged. 6 Severity Severity consists of the combination of the number of turns per helix, num
