4、ge version of EN ISO 6042:2000. It is identical with ISO 6042:1998. It supersedes BS MA 38:1973 which is withdrawn. The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted to Technical Committee SME/32, Ships and marine technology Steering committee, which has the responsibility to: aid enquirers to u

5、nderstand the text; present to the responsible international/European committee any enquiries on the interpretation, or proposals for change, and keep the UK interests informed; monitor related international and European developments and promulgate them in the UK. A list of organizations represented

6、 on this committee can be obtained on request to its secretary. NOTE When the standard was published as an International Standard, the United Kingdom did not implement it as a British Standard as it was considered inferior to the existing BS MA 38:1973. The requirements contained in the Internationa

7、l Standard were not as carefully defined or as rigorous. Furthermore, the possibility remains that some of the door handles defined in the standard can be forced open by vibration and their own weight. The United Kingdom voted negatively at every ballot stage of the draft and voiced vigorous objecti

8、ons to this design. The United Kingdoms objections were finally acknowledged as being correct but the European Committee decided to press on and publish the standard regardless.With the adoption of the International Standard as a European Standard, the United Kingdom is obliged to implement it as th

9、e national standard superseding BS MA 38:1973. Therefore, care should be taken when following this standard that any statutory or classification society requirements are still met. 28、ors 1Scope ThisInternationalStandardspecifiesthemaindimensions,materials,qualityandconditions ofmanufacturefor weathertight singlelea f steel doorsforapplicationonboardships,inordertoensureinterchangeabilityofthesteel doors.Theremainingdimensions,weldingandotherdetailsarelefttothemanufacturer. 29、doorsgenerallyconformtotherequirementsoftheInternationa lConventiononLoadLines1966(LLC66). Thepossibilityforapplicationofthedoorstopositio n 1andpositio n 2hastobeconsideredforeachsituatio nand, wherenecessary,thedoorsshallbeprovidedwithadditionalstiffening(seealsotable1).
