These standards take measurements from a small numberof example materials using different static hardness tests andpresent a
3、conversion between static hardness scales in the formof comparison tables and graphs of the relevant static hardnesstest results. However, different materials have different hardnessresponses and so the comparison tables in these standards arestrictly only applicable to the same material as that use
4、d to derivethe tables. The UK committee is of the opinion that these standardsshould not be used to provide any conversion from a dynamicindentation test to a different hardness scale, static or dynamic. Therecommended method for determining a hardness scale conversionis to generate a set of compari
5、son results for the exact material andscale conversions required.Using this standard to convert between static hardness scales fortest results obtained on materials different from the examplematerials in the standard will introduce additional and possiblylarge uncertainties (see clause 1). Even for
6、the same or similarmaterials the uncertainty is variable. For this reason, all convertedhardness values obtained by comparison with the specific conversiontables acquired for the example materials quoted in this documentshould be treated as estimated or indicative values only. Attention istherefore
7、also drawn to clause 2 which states that “a measurementmade according to the correct hardness (or tensile) standard for thescale being reported shall always take precedence over a hardness(or strength) value derived from a conversion table”.The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted to Te
