18、and definitions apply.3.1 grain size distributionmass fraction, as a percentage, of each grain size4 PrincipleThe material is passed through a series of sieves of progressively decreasing aperture, so that it is divided intofractions that are defined by the apertures of the sieves used.Grain size di

19、stributions of dry refractory mortars can be determined by either dry or wet test methods, the lattergiving more reproducible results.The grain size distribution of ready-mixed mortars should be determined by the wet test method and ofchemically bonded mortars by the dry test method.5 Apparatus5.1 S

21、olding at least five standard sieves at the same time.6 SamplingFor dry mortar, sample the mortar in accordance with ISO 8656-1 or as agreed between parties. Reduce thesample to by quartering or with a riffle sampler.Sample ready-mixed mortars by emptying the entire contents of the container in whic

22、h the mortar is suppliedinto another container of larger capacity and mixing thoroughly. It is important that any supernatant liquid not bediscarded. Ensure that a representative sample of the wet mixture is obtained.7 Procedure7.1 GeneralAnalyse each sample in duplicate.Ensure that the sieves are c

23、lean and dry before use.7.2 Dry sieve analysisTake a sample of at least , dry in an oven at to constant mass. Allow to cool to roomtemperature in a desiccator and weigh to the nearest . Record the mass .Place the series of sieves on the shaking device, with the coarsest at the top and the finest and

24、 the receiver atthe bottom.Place the sample on the top sieve and operate the sieve shaking device for . If necessary, for examplewhen very fine powders adhere to the upper screen, the sample can be lightly brushed over the sieve to assistthe transfer of screenable material onto the next sieve.Remove

25、 the sieves from the shaking device, carefully separate and, one at a time, empty the contents of thesieves onto separate pieces of clean paper.Weigh the material collected on each sieve and in the receiver to the nearest . 26、 analysis of dry mortarWeigh a sample of at least , in a clean, dry evaporating dish (or suitable glass dish), spreading the sampleevenly within the dish. Dry in an oven at until constant mass is attained, i.e. until two successiveweighings made apart and after a minimum of in the oven do not differ

Record the mass as .Immerse the sample in a sufficient amount of water to ensure that the fines are completely separated from thecoarse particles and do not ball together. Place the sample on the finest si

46、) the test method used, i.e. wet or dry sieve analysis;d) the name of the testing establishment;e) the results of the test, calculated as specified in Clause 8, including: the mesh size of sieves used; the mean grain size distribution; whether the distribution is quoted as “incremental retained” or
