36、agement systems for hog operations: Requirements. This Standard provides the framework for designing and implementing a voluntary management system to promote responsible environmental management of hog operations in Canada. It should be used in conjunction with Z772, Environmental management system

37、s for hog operations: Implementation guide (under development).This Standard was prepared by the Technical Committee on Environmental Management Systems for Hog Operations, under the jurisdiction of the CSA Strategic Steering Committee on the Environment, and has been formally approved by the Techni

38、cal Committee. This Standard has been approved as a National Standard of Canada by the Standards Council of Canada.March 2004Notes: (1) Use of the singular does not exclude the plural (and vice versa) when the sense allows.(2) Although the intended primary application of this Standard is stated in i

40、as “substantial agreement. Consensus implies much more than a simple majority, but not necessarily unanimity”. As such,

45、 this Standard addresses the impacts and management of substances used directly or indirectly in hog production.Responsible environmental management of hog operations is of great importance to producers, government, communities, and other interested parties across Canada. The development, implementa

46、tion, and maintenance of an environmental management system (EMS) have been identified as an approach available to organizations that aim to systematically improve environmental management and performance. Potential benefits associated with the implementation of an EMS include(a) improving overall e

47、nvironmental performance;(b) demonstrating commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations;(c) eliminating or minimizing environmental incidents;(d) improving response to environmental incidents;(e) improving efficiencies through reduced resource use and waste;(f) maintaining or improv

48、ing market access and competitiveness;(g) improving relations with neighbours, regulators, customers, and other interested parties;(h) demonstrating due diligence in the event of prosecution or litigation;(i) reducing environmental risk assessed by insurance and lending institutions; and(j) increasi

49、ng employee involvement, morale, health, and productivity.An environmental management system requires that an organization commit to continual improvement.
