Comments arising from the use of this Draft for Development are requested so that UK experience can be reported to the European organization responsible for its conversion to a European standard. A review of this publication will be initiated 2 years after its publication by the

5、European organization so that a decision can be taken on its status at the end of its 3-year life. Themethodisconcernedwiththeprotectionagain

21、stdecayafterexposuretoawiderangeofmicro organismsoccurringoutofgroundcontactundernaturalconditions.Ittakesintoaccountalsophysico chemicaleffectsofweatheringontheperformanceofthepreservativetreatedwood. Sincethelapjointsareexposedtonaturaloutdoorconditionsduringthetestperiod,variationsintest conditio

22、nsfromoneexposuresitetoanotherhavetobeexpected.Differencesinclimate,especially rainfall,willinevitablyinfluencethegeneralrateofdevelopmentofdecayfungi.However,by comparingtheresultsobtainedforthetestpreservativewiththoseobtainedforuntreatedcontrollap joints,therelativeprotectiveeffectivenessofthepre

23、servativeundertestcanbeevaluated. NOTE TheproceduresdescribedinthisTechnicalSpecificationareintendedtobecarriedoutbysuitably trainedand/orsupervisedspecialists.Appropriatesafetyprecautionsshouldbeobservedthroughouttheuseof theTechnicalSpecification.CEN/TS12037:2003(E) 5 1Scope ThisTechnicalSpecifica

24、tiondescribesamethodoftestforwoodpreservativesthatareintendedfor useinwoodtobeexposedtotheweatheroutofcontactwiththegroundwithouttheadditional protectionofasurfacecoating. Themethodisapplicabletothetestingofcommercialorexperimentalpreservativesappliedby techniquesappropriatetocommercialpractice.Them

25、ethodisapplicabletochemicalproductsused individuallyorincombinationtopreventthedevelopmentofdecayand/oroptionalthe developmentofdisfiguringorganismsinwoodand,wheresuitable,inwoodbasedproducts. NOTE1 Themethodmayalsobeusedtotestothertreatedwoodspeciesandnaturallydurabletimbers.It maybeadaptedfortesti

38、cay,insectdamageandotherdefects.Some knotsarepermitted.Thewoodshallnothavebeenwaterstored,floated,chemicallytreatedor steamed.Thewoodshalloriginatefromtreespreferablyfelledinwinter. NOTE Woodthathasbeenkilndriedattemperaturesbelow60 Cmaybeused . TheScotspineshallbeexclusivelysapwoodcontaininglittler

39、esinandhavingbetween2,5and8 annualringsper10mm.Theproportionoflatewoodintheannualringsshallnotexceed30%ofthe whole.Usewoodwithoutreactionwoodorjuvenilewood. 5.1.3 Provisionoftestspecimens Thelongitudinalfacesshallbeparalleltothedirectionofthegrain.Theannualringsshallhavea contactangleofnotgreatertha

40、n10 tothebroadfacesofthetestspecimens.Maketransversecuts, neatlytogivesharpedgesandafinesawnfinishtotheendgrainsurfaces. Allthewoodusedinthetestshallhavebeenhandledanddriedinthesameway. NOTE1 Ifadditionalwoodspeciesareused,theseshouldbementionedinthetestreporttogetherwiththeir densityandthenumberofa

41、nnualringsper10mmofthetimberusedforthetestspecimens. Woodfromatleastthreetreesshallbeusedandevenlydistributedamongthedifferentgroupsoflap joints. Conditioninaconditioningchamber(see6.2)thetimberstockto(122)%( m/m)moisturecontent. Preparelengthsoftimberwith(381)mm (851)mmcrosssectionbysawing(see6.1)a

42、nd planning(seeFigure1).Fromthelapjointssubsequentlymachinedfromasinglelengthoftimber,not morethanoneshallbeincludedineachsetofreplicates(see5.1.5). NOTE2 Amoisturemeterofthetwoprongedelectricalconductivitytypeissuitableforassessingmoisture content. Eachlapjointshallbepreparedfromasinglepieceofwooda

43、stwomembers(1801)mmlongand separatedbynomorethan100mm,toallowforremovalofknotsandassociatedgrainaberration,to ensureatightfitduringthetest(seeFigure1).Withintheoverlappingpartandtheadjacent50mm thereshallbenoknotsandintherestofeachmembertherearenomorethan3soundknots,the diameterofwhichshallnotexceed
