31、her mechanicalproperties,suchasdefecttolerance,abrasivewearanderosionresistance,impactresistance,fatigue resistance,andthermalshockdamageresistance. 5Test methods 5.1Background Itisrecognisedthattheapparentplanestrainfracturetoughnessofadvancedtechnicalceramicsmaynotbea uniquematerialproperty.Thenum
32、ericalvalueobtainedinanyparticulartestmaybecontrolledbyfactors associatedwiththetestmethod,bythelengthofthecrack,andbythevelocityatwhichthecrackpropagates.Thus theresultsfromdifferenttypesoftestmaynotbenumericallyequivalent.Someoftheimportantfactorsintest methodselectionaregivenbelow. 34、tyfactorwith accurateandreliablecalibrations; 2) thosewhichareinwidespreadusebutwhichareconsideredtohaveconsiderablecalibration uncertaintiesassociatedwiththem,orwherethecrackcannotbewellcharacterised,orisprestressedby themethodbywhichitisintroduced;suchtestsmightbeusedforcomparativepurposesonly. 5.
