CGSB is engaged in the production

3、 of voluntary standards in a wide range of subject areas through the media of standards committees and the consensus process. The standards committees are composed of representatives of relevant interests including producers, consumers and other users, retailers, governments, educational institution

4、s, technical, professional and trade societies, and research and testing organizations. Any given standard is developed on the consensus of views expressed by such representatives. The Ministers Advisory Council on CGSB reviews the results of the consensus process. CGSB has been accredited by the St

The standards that it develops and offers as National Standards of Canada conform to the criteria and procedures established for this purpose by the Standards Council of Canada. In addition to standards it publishes as national

6、standards, CGSB produces standards to meet particular needs, in response to requests from a variety of sources in both the public and private sectors. Both CGSB standards and national standards developed by CGSB are developed in conformance with the policies described in the Policy Manual for the De

7、velopment and Maintenance of Standards by CGSB. CGSB standards are subject to review and revision at any time, so as to ensure that they keep abreast of technological progress. Suggestions for their improvement, which are always welcome, should be brought to the notice of the standards committees co

27、3-92 Supersedes 24-GP-3a September 1967 CANAIDIAN GENERAL STANDARDS BOARD IDENTIFICATION OF PIPING SYSTEMS SCOPE This standard specifies the means for ready identification of materials contained in piping systems, including pipes buried in the ground and electricall conduits, by means of background

28、colour marking, legend and, in some cases, pictogram(s). This standard does not apply to piping systems in which medical gases are conveyed. Identification of medical gas piping systems is covered by CANICGSB-24.2-M86, Identification of Medical Gas Containers, Pipelines and Valves. The use of this s

29、tandard will resiilt in greater safety by reducing chances of error, simplifying the handling of emergencies, and minimizing hazards to personnel. This standard does not fully addre:ss the needs of individuals who are colour blind or illiterate. The testing and evaluation of a product against this s

30、tandard may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects associated with its use. Anyone using this standard has the responsibility to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish appropriate health an

TERMINOLOGY For the purpose of this standard, i.he following definitions shall apply: Controlled Product - Any product, material or substan

34、ce which, by application of criteria in Part IV of the Controlled Products Regulations, is included in any of the following six classes: a. Compressed Gas - A substance that is a gas at room temperature but is transported and used under pressure in b. Flammable and Combustible Miaterial - A material

37、exposure to it. It may produce heat and oxygen. contain bacteria or viruses that can cause disease. There are 3 types as follows: 1. Materials causing immediate and serious toxic effects 2. Materials causing other toxic effects 3. Biohazardous infectious material. e. Corrosive Material - A substance

38、 that will “eat away“, burn or destroy some materials, including human tissue. f. Dangerously Reactive Material - A material that is likely to become reactive by itself, in contact with other chemicals or when subject to changes in pressure or temperature. A reactive material may explode, burn, or g

39、ive off toxic vapours. Pipes - Conduits for electrical conductors and for the transport of gases, liquids or solids (or any combination thereof) or as a carrier of solids carried in liquids or gas or air lines. Piping systems - It shall include pipes of any kind, fittings, valves, vessels, other pla

40、nt equipment, and pipe coverings. Supports, brackets or other accessories are specifically excluded from application of this standard. CLASSIFICATION (BY CONTENT) Hazardous Materials Controlled products which are as defined in par. 3.1. All electrical conduit, with the exception of control circuits

41、designated as Class 2 circuits or telephone circuits as specified in Sections 16 and 60 respectively of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1. Materials at high temperature or pressure. For some materials, temperatures as low as 60C or pressures as low as 275 kPa can be hazardous. Inherently Low Haza

42、rd Materiais Materials which are not hazardous by nature, and are at ambient pressure and temperature such that people working on systems carrying these materials experience minimal risk through the release of these materials. Control circuits designated as Class 2 circuits or telephone circuits as

43、specified in Sections 16 and 60 respectively of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1. Fire Protection Materials Sprinkler systems and other piped fire fighting or fire protection equipment. This includes water (for fire fighting), foam, COZ, Halon and dry chemical systems. Some fire protection mater

44、ials may also be hazardous (see par. 4.1 and 4. i .3). In such cases, these materials shall adhere to fire protection material identification. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS Identification of material contained in a piping system shall be by background colour marking and legend. For controlled products, picto

45、grams shall also be used. The background colour marking and coloured pictograms are used to designate whether the contained material is hazardous, or for fire protection. The identification shall be produced by the use of paint, decals, plastic bands or polyethylene or detectable ribbon (see par. 7.

46、1). 48、The markings applied to piping systems shall conform to all relevant Acts and Regulations. DETAILED REQUIREMENTS Identification by Background Cdour Marking Material contained in a piping system shall be identified by markings of background colour applied on the piping system. The markings shall be a

49、pplied on straight pipe runs, close to all valves, fittings or junction boxes, and adjacent to all changes in direction, or where pipes pass through walls or floors. The markings may be used in continuous, total length coverage or in intermittent displays. The minimum width of the markings shall be 25 mm (see par. 6.3.3 and Figure I). If a straight run of pipe exceeds 20 m, then additional marking is recommended (see par. 6.7.1). The colour used to identify material
