Because the procedure creates conditions favourable to combustion, the test is

29、 a severe one relative to some others in the CAN/CGSB4.2 No. 27 series. The testing and evaluation of a product against this method may require the use of materials andor equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects associated with its use. Anyo

30、ne using this method has the responsibility to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any existing applicable regulatory requirements prior to its use. PRINCIPLE A luminous flame is applied for a specified time to the lower ed

31、ge of a specimen of fabric held verfically. The occurrence of flash over the surface of the specimen, the duration of aftefflame and afterglow, and the length of the damaged area are noted. 33、S Sheet metal draft shield: 300 mm wide, 300 mm deep and 750 mm high, equipped with a means for suspending the test specimen vertically by clamping the top 15 mm of the specimen (Figure 1). The shield shall be open at the top and have a vertical sliding transparent front. Sufficient opening (e.g. 25

34、 mm high and 125 mm long) shall be left at the bottom of the front to allow manipulation of the gas burner. Mirror: for viewing the back of the specimen. Supports: with suitable clamps, pins or clips to hold the lower edge of the specimen. The specimen shall be mounted so that its lower edge is at l

35、east 20 mm above the top of the burner and the distance between the supports for the clamps, pins or clips is 65 mm (Figure 2). Bunsen or Tirrill gas burner: with a 10mm inside diameter tube. The burner can be adjusted to provide a luminous flame 40 mm long when its air supply is completely shut off

37、0-27*L-94 * 1874650 0025097 LTL TEST SPECIMENS Six specimens, each 75 x 315 mm, representative of the fabric, shall be cut from the sample, three specimens with the long dimension parallel to the machine direction and three parallel to the cross direction. The specimens shall not have loose threads

38、or any form of fringe along the edges that might affect the ease of ignition, cause initial flaring or flashing, thus prejudicing the test. PROCEDURE Place the specimens in a drying oven at 105 f 2C for 1 h, then allow to cool in a desiccator before testing. Specimens of fabrics that are affected by

39、 heating to 105“C, such as wax-treated fabrics, shall be predried in a desiccator for at least 12 h before testing, or dried in an oven for 1 h at 6OoC, then cooled to room temperature in a desiccator. Carry out the test in a draft-free room (Note 1). Ensure that the shield is at room temperature an

40、d that the floor beneath the specimen is free of molten polymer and ash. Suspend the specimen vertically in the metal shield, with the clamp gripping the top 15 mm of the specimen. Attach the restraining clamps, pins or clips to the lower corners of the specimen (see Figure 2). The lower edge of the

41、 specimen shall be 20 mm above the top of the burner, which is adjusted to give off a luminous flame 40 mm long with its air supply completely shut off. Apply the flame for 12 s to the midpoint of the lower edge of the specimen, then withdraw it. Note the occurrence of flashing over the specimen, th

42、e afterfame time (in seconds) following removal of the burner flame, the duration and location of any afterglow and whether any molten polymer falls from the specimen and continues to burn on the floor of the shield (Notes 1 and 2). Renllove the specimen from the clamps and determine the damaged len

43、gth to the nearest millimetre by tearing by hand vertically through the damaged area until a marked increase in the resistance of tearing indicates that the undamaged portion of the fabric has been reached (Note 3). The damaged length is 300 mm minus the distance between the end of the tear and the

44、former position of the bottom edge of the clamp. Note 1: Because the tests are carried out in a draft-free room, the air in the room will likely be contaminated with the products of combustion. When these products are potentially toxic, e.g. hydrochloric acid, phosphorous compounds, etc., a respirat

45、or should be worn, or the tests may be carried out in a fume hood with the draft shut 05 Any obnoxious fumes produced may be removed by turning on rhe draj benueen tests. Note 2: Because the afterglow is very dull on some fabrics, it is advisable to examine this effect in subdued light or in the dar

Note 3: In cases of dispute, determine the damaged length as follows: attach a mass resting on a horizontal surface (by means of a hook, clamp, etc.) to one side of the specimen just outside the damaged area. (The mass shall be in accordance with Table 1.) Raise the other side of the specimen slo
