27、6 CSA Group6C22.2 No. 0.5-16Threaded conduit entries1 Scope1.1 This Standard applies to equipment for installation and use in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, other than conduit couplings.1.2 This Standard includes basic construction and inspection requirements for

28、the threaded entry for conduit into an electrical enclosure in order to assure the following:a) the adequacy of a grounding path provided by rigid metal conduit in accordance with the Rules ofthe Canadian Electrical Code, Part I; andb) that threaded conduit entries are unlikely to cause damage to th

29、e insulation of conductors that areinstalled in a raceway of rigid metal conduit in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.Note: In Clause 1.2 the word “enclosure” is used to include a variety of structures with an enclosing function, whether constituting part of a raceway

30、 or an enclosure (of a switch, for example).1.3 This Standard does not include requirements for construction material, design proportions, protection against corrosion, and other matters that are more appropriately included in the scope of individual Standards applicable to specific equipment.1.4 In

36、face over which conductors may be drawn without injury to the insulation.Threaded conduit entry a conduit entry that is threaded so as to secure a rigid conduit without the use of a bushing or locknut.4 Construction4.1 GeneralGeneral requirements applicable to this Standard are given in CAN/CSA-C22.

37、2 No. 0.The construction of a threaded conduit entry shall conform to one of the types illustrated in Figures 1, 2, 3, or 4.4.2 Thread formThe threading of conduit entries shall be:a) a tapered pipe thread conforming to Section 2 of ANSI B1.20.1; orb) straight pipe threads conforming to ANSI/ASME B1

38、.13M.4.3 Dimensions of conduit entries4.3.1 DepthThe minimum depth of a conduit entry that includes an integral bushing shalla) for enclosures requiring a thread length per Clause 4.3.2 b) i) and iii), comply with the requirements of Table 2; orb) for enclosures requiring a thread length per Clause

39、4.3.2 b) ii), comply with the requirements of Table 3.C22.2 No. 0.5-16 Threaded conduit entriesJanuary 2016 2016 CSA Group8The minimum depth of conduit entry, as listed in column 2 of Tables 2 and 3, is the total of L1*, plus 2 times the pitch of the thread, plus the manufacturers female thread tole

40、rance.* L1 is the length from the gauging notch to the small end of a working plug gauge complying with Section 7of ANSI B1.20.1. “Plus the sum of 2 times the pitch of the thread” allows for one turn for the maximum conduit thread tolerance and one turn for wrench tight.The maximum and minimum femal

41、e thread tolerances shall be as specified in Clause 5.1.3.Where the threaded portion (tapping land) of an entry is chamfered or counterbored, the depth of the entry shall be measured from a plane located at the intersection of the chamfer or counterbore with the pitch cone of the thread.Note: For me

42、tric plug gauges, see ANSI/ASME B1.16M.4.3.2 Threaded lengthThe minimum axial length of the threaded portion of a conduit entry (tapping land) shall be the greater of Item a) or b) (see Figures 2 and 4) as follows:a) 1/4 in; orb) alternatively: i) 5 the pitch of the thread for Class I, Division 1 en

43、closures;ii) 3 the pitch of the thread for other than Class I, Division 1 or Zone enclosures; oriii) 4.5 to 5 the pitch of the thread for Zones (See Section 18 of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I).4.3.3 Pitch diameterThe pitch diameter of the thread in a conduit entry shall comply with the inspe

44、ction requirements in Clause 5.4.3.4 Throat diameterThe throat diameter of an integral bushing shall be in accordance with Table 1.4.4 Protection for conductor insulation4.4.1 An integral bushing in a conduit entry shall have a smooth surface with no sharp edges at the throat.4.4.2 A conduit entry t

45、hat does not have an integral bushing and has an axial length in excess of that required by Clause 4.3.2 shall be smooth and rounded and free from sharp edges at the small end (see Figure 3).5 Inspection5.1 Pitch diameter5.1.1 Conformity of threading to the pitch diameter requirement shall be determ

46、ined by a working gauge, complying with Section 7 of ANSI B1.20.1 or ANSI/ASME B1.16M, in hand-tight engagement with the part being inspected.C22.2 No. 0.5-16 Threaded conduit entriesJanuary 2016 2016 CSA Group95.1.2 The gauging shall be done on parts that have clean, undamaged threads after any pro

47、tective coating has been applied. A pipe plug or conduit nipple having a minimum thread tolerance* shall be wrench tightened into the entry and removed prior to gauging.* Plus 1 turn on NPT ring gauge.Notes: 1) Where the threaded portion (tapping land) of an entry is chamfered or counterbored, the p

48、osition of a gauge in relation to an end (either large or small) thereof is referred to a plane located at the intersection of the chamfer or counterbore with the pitch cone of the thread.2) For metric plug gauges see ANSI/ASME B1.16M.5.1.3 A conduit entry shall be considered to comply with the pitc

49、h diameter requirements, provided the position of a gauge (as specified in Clauses 5.1.1 and 5.1.2) conforms to the following limits. In a conduit entry having a threaded portion (tapping land) of a length to produce thread conforming to the length requirements for an internal tapered pipe thread, as described in Section 2 of ANSI B1.20.1, the gauging notch of the NPT gauge is a minimum of a) +1/2 turn for enclosures requiring a thread length per Clause 4.3.2 b) i); orb) 1-1/4 turns for enclosures requiring a thread length per Clause 4.3.2 b) ii);to
