SCOPE 1.1 Except as provided in Clause 1.2, this Standard applies to household electric

20、 toys operating at nominal potentials of 120 volts or less, including extra low potential, and intended for use in ordinary (i.e. non-hazardous) locations as defined in the Canadian Electrical Code Part I. 1.2 This standard does not apply to battery operated toys: (a) Having a battery of a non-recha

21、rgeable (primary) type; and (b) Having a battery of a rechargeable (secondary) type which must be removed from the toy for recharging. 1.3 This Standard does not apply to wood burning tools or similar burning devices. 2. DEFINiTIONS 2.1 The following definitions apply in this Standard: Combination t

22、emperature-regulating and limiting thermostat means a thermostat which functions to regulate the temperature under normal con- ditions of use, and also serves to prevent a hazard that might result from conditions of abnormal operation; Enclosure means the enclosure which houses the electrical compon

23、ents and live parts. It may be an integral part of the component, a separate item, part of the ultimate enclosure, or the ultimate enclosure (i.e. the outer cabinet); Heating element means the actual electrical conducting medium, in any heating device, which is intended to be heated by an electric c

24、urrent; Temperature-regulating thermostat means a thermostat which functions only to regulate the temperature under normal conditions of use, the failure of which would not result in a hazard; Temperature-limiting thermostat means a thermostat which functions only under conditions which produce abno

25、rmal temperatures. The failure of such a thermostat might or might not result in a hazard. 3. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Toys shall comply with the applicable requirements of CSA Standard C22.2 No. 0, Definitions and General Requirements. NoTE: In view of the breadth of the requirements in GSA Standar

26、d C22.2 No. 0, Definitions and General Requirements, a toy which does not comply with the Hazardous Products Act is not considered to comply with the intent of the requirements of this Standard. 3.2 Where reference is made to other publications, such references shall be considered to refer to the la

27、test edition and any revisions thereto ap- proved by the organization issuing that publication. 8 CSA STANDARD C22.2 No. 149 4. CONSTRUCTION 4.1 General 4.1.1 Electrical components of toys shall conform to the applicable Standards of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part II, so far as they apply, and s

28、hall be suitable for the application. 4.1.2 Toys shall be free of shock hazard, as determined by the leakage current test, Clause 6.9, the abnormal test, Clause 6.6 and shall comply with the dielectric test, Clause 6.5 and the drop test, Clause 6.13. 4.1.3 Toys shall be free of fire hazard as determ

29、ined by the abnormal tests in Clause 6.6 so far as they apply. 4.1.4 Lamps shall not be used in lieu of heater elements unless pro- vided with “one shot“ non_replaceable* current-limiting devices except that a current-limiting device will not be required where a single lamp is used not exceeding 100

30、 watts and the construction is such that conventional lamps of higher wattage than that for which the toy is designed cannot be inserted. * This means that toys in which current-limiting devices have opened, because lamps of too high a “wattage“ were inserted, must be returned to the manufacturer fo

31、r repair. 4.1.5 Toy sewing machines shall be so designed or guarded as to eliminate the likelihood or necessity of the childs fingers being in the danger zone. Nom: A spacing of not more than 5/32 inch between pressure foot, needle, and sewing machine in any operating position is considered to provi

32、de the degree of protection required in Clause 4.1.5. 4.2 Enclosures 4.2.1 General 4.2.1.1 Under any reasonably foreseeable condition of use, an enclosure shall prevent accidental contact with live parts which operate at potentials over 30 volts rms or 42.4 volts peak; and shall reduce to a minimum

33、the possibility of the escape of glowing or flaming particles. 4.2.1.2 If access to the interior of toys can present a hazard of any sort, enclosures shall be constructed so that they cannot be opened manually or with ordinary tools. Noms: 1. Pliers and screwdrivers are considered ordinary tools. En

34、closures that are riveted, welded, or secured together with special screws that cannot be re- moved with an ordinary tool are considered to comply with Clause 4.2.1.2. Cross-recessed, or clutch-recessed head screws, “spring steel“ clips and the like are not suitable fastening means since they can be

35、 defeated with an ordinary tool. 2. An enclosure which can be opened by a destructive use of ordinary tools is considered to comply with Clause 4.2.1.2. 4.2.1.3 Enclosures of toys shall: (a) If conductive, and exposed to user contact, comply with the de- flection test in Clause 6.11; (b) If they are

36、 of non-metallic material, comply with the flame test in Clause 6.14, without the use of flame retardant paint; (c) Comply with the impact test in Clause 6.12; and (d) Comply with the drop test in Clause 6.13. ELECTRICALLY OPERATED TOYS 9 4.2.1.4 Tn assessing enclosures, all elements contributing to

37、 the enclosing function, including enclosures of individual components, and the exterior structure shall be considered. 4.2.2 Openings in Enclosures 4.2.2.1 Louvers or other openings in enclosures shall be located, guarded, or baffled so as to prevent accidental contact with live parts, in- cluding

38、wiring, splices and a lamp used as a heating element, which oper ate at potentials over 30 volts rms or 42.4 volts peak. 4.2.2.2 Except as required by Clause 4.2.2.3, enclosure openings shall be judged to comply with Clause 4.2.2.1 if a straight rod inch in diameter cannot be inserted. 4.2.2.3 Excep

39、t in the case of a lampholder screw shell that is recessed in an insulating husk or the equivalent, an enclosure containing a bare live part shall have no opening through which any metallic con- ductor can be inserted to contact the live part. 4.2.2.4 Ventilating and other openings in external enclo

40、sures shall not be located directly below live parts, unless suitably baffled in order to prevent molten metal, etc. from falling directly through to the supporting surface. 4.3 Mechanical Assembly 4.3.1 Toys shall be so assembled that they will not likely be affected adversely by the vibration of n

41、ormal operation. 4.3.2 Switches, lampholders, attachment-plug receptacles, and similar components provided as parts of toys shall be fastened securely and rigidly, and shall be prevented from turning by means other than friction between surfaces, if turning would result in reduction of spacings belo

42、w the minimum specified in Clause 4.14. NOTE: Switches that are not handled by the user and are normally operated only by a mechanical means which does not apply a rotating movement are not con- sidered likely to rotate if the method of mounting of the switch is such that loosening will not result f

43、rom its operation. 4.3.3 Brush caps of motors shall comply with Clause 4.2.1.2. 4.3.4 The operating mechanisms of switches and controls shall not subject electrical parts to undue strain. 4.3.5 Heating elements shall be supported in a substantial and reliable manner. 4.3.6 Parts of toys which contai

44、n a fluid under pressure over one atmosphere shall have sufficient strength to withstand five times the maximum normal pressure if the failure of such parts could result in personal injury due to explosion. 4.3.7 To comply with Clause 4.3.6, the boiler assembly of a toy steam engine shall include a

45、pressure relief valve, and the suitability of the as- sembly shall be determined by a test in accordance with Clause 6.10. 4.3.8 Moving parts such as rotors of motors, pulleys, belts, gears, shall be enclosed or guarded to prevent accidental contact therewith, if such contact could result in persona

46、l injury. 10 CSA STANDARD C22.2 No. 149 4.4 Supply Connections 4.4.1 General 4.4.1.1 Toys intended for operation on circuits with a nominal potential which exceeds 30 volts rms or 42.4 volts peak, shall have an at- tached power supply cord which: (a) Complies with the applicable requirements of CSA

47、Standard C22.2 No. 21, Cord Sets and Power-Supply Cords; and (b) Has an attachment plug cap which is so constructed that: (i) The perimeter of the face is not less than 5/16 inch from any point on either blade of the cap; and (ii) The body of the cap is reduced in cross-section from the face, but ha

48、s an expansion of the body, after a suitable distance, to provide an effective finger grip, or is shaped so as to provide a finger grip in the form of a substantially closed loop into which one or more fingers can be inserted to pull on the cap. 4.4.1.2 Supply cords shall have ampacities at least eq

49、ual to the total input in amperes marked as specified in Clause 5.1, but shall be not smaller than No. 18 AWG. 4.4.1.3 Supply cords shall have insulation suitable for the tem- perature to which they are exposed in the toy, and for toys which operate on circuits with a nominal potential exceeding 30 volts rms or 42.4 volts peak shall be of the following types: (a) For a steam engine, or for othe
