31、g appliances rated for use on nominal single-phase system voltages of 240 V and less, designed to be used in dry nonhazardous locations in household and similar applications in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.1.2 In this Standard, “shall” is used to express a requirement, i.e.,

36、A Group 93 DefinitionsThe following definitions shall apply in this Standard:Appliance plug a contact device intended for use as a component of a heater cord set.Flat-iron plug an appliance plug for use on electric irons and other similar heating appliances.Wire binding screw terminal a terminal tha
37、t uses a wire binding screw for holding a conductor, and in which the conductor is looped under the head of the screw, or for retaining a wire connector such as a ring or spade type.4 General4.1 General requirementsGeneral requirements applicable in this Standard are given in CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 0.4.2
38、 Construction4.2.1 Body4.2.1.1 The body of an appliance plug shall be of phenolic composition, except that other materials shall be permitted to be used for the body, provided that the material has a flammability classification of V-2 or better in accordance with CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 0.17.4.2.1.2 The b
39、ody shall meet the dimensional requirements of Figure 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6, as applicable.4.2.2 Anti-kink device4.2.2.1 At the opening for the heater cord of an anti-kink device, if provided, there shall be a helical wire spring to prevent undue binding and kinking of the cord where it enters the app
40、liance plug.4.2.2.2 There shall be no sharp edges or burrs on the device that would be likely to cause abrasion of the heater cord.4.2.2.3 Means shall be provided for securely retaining the anti-kink device in its proper place in the assembled appliance plug. If grommets or bushings form part of suc
41、h devices, they shall be securely held in the position intended.4.2.3 Strain reliefThe construction of an appliance plug shall be such that a force exerted on the heater cord will not be transmitted to wire binding screw terminals or wiring connections (see Clause 6.11). All parts of the appliance p
42、lug that the cord may contact shall be smooth and well rounded.C22.2 No. 57-15Appliance plugs for heater cord setsApril 2015 2015 CSA Group 104.2.4 Replacement appliance plug4.2.4.1 A replacement appliance plug intended for direct sale to the public shall have wiring terminals that are suitable for
43、securing either No. 18 AWG or No. 16 AWG stranded conductors. The wiring terminals shall have upturned lugs or some suitable equivalent means for retaining conductors under the heads of binding head screws. Instructions shall be provided for these plugs as specified in Clause 5.3.4.2.4.2 Binding hea
44、d screws shall be not smaller than No. 5 and shall thread into metal. The metal shall either be of thickness equal to at least twice the pitch of the thread on the screws or be extruded to furnish engagement with at least 2 clean-cut full threads on the screws. The metal shall be not less than 0.63
45、mm thick.4.2.5 Female contacts4.2.5.1 Female contacts shall be held securely, but not necessarily rigidly, within the plug body. Except for appliance plugs in Figures 3, 4, 5, and 6, the configuration and dimensions of the contacts shall be such that the pins detailed in Table 1 will be accommodated
46、.4.2.5.2 Contacts need not be rigidly attached to the appliance plug body; a small amount of floating is acceptable so that the contacts may be self-aligning with respect to their fit with male pins.4.2.5.3 In an appliance plug body, holes for female contacts shall be no larger than necessary to acc
47、ommodate the male pins.4.2.5.4 Female contacts and associated live parts in the contact opening of a plug that can be touched by the probe illustrated in Figure 7 shall be recessed from the plane of the opening a distance not less than 1/4 of the maximum straight-line dimension (see Clause 4.2.5.7)
48、of the opening or 1.2 mm, whichever is larger.4.2.5.5 The plane of the opening used to determine the minimum recess specified in Clause 4.2.5.4 shall be that plane nearest the face of the device having the minimum opening for the pin clearance. Bevels, tapers, or other expansions of the contact open
49、ing shall not be included in the measurement.4.2.5.6 The probe illustrated in Figure 7 shall be inserted point first as far as possible in the opening without distorting the perimeter of the opening.4.2.5.7 The maximum straight-line dimension mentioned in Clause 4.2.5.4 is the maximum-length straight line that will fit within the opening at the plane of measurement.C22.2 No. 57-15Appliance plugs for heater cord setsApril 2015 2015 CSA Group 114.2.6 Switching mechanism4.2.6.1 If an appliance plug incorporates a switching mechanism, such a mechanism shal
