、1973 PREFACE This Standard, like all standards prepared by the Canadian Gas Association, is subjectto periodic review. Amendments in the form of replacement pages may be issued from time to time. To receive copies of these replacement pages, purchasers of this Standard should complete and return the

、 attached card. Standards are updated in conjunction with changes in technology and are normally reviewed at least within a five year period. If the Standards Committee, industry and provincial inspection authorities feel the standard requires no change, then the standard may be reaffirmed and only

、the date is changed. It should be noted that most CGA standards are published as National Standards of Canada. As the standards conform to the criteria and procedures established by the Standards Council of Canada, the Standard Number designation changes with the CGA prefix being replaced by CAN1 or

、 CAN/CGA. Although any replacement pages that have been issued will be sold with the Standard, the purchaser must insert them where they apply. Replacement pages will show the date of the publication of the amendment. The effective date of the changes will be shown on the cover page of the amendment

When access is required for 1.2.7 A sealed combustion system waterless toilet shall be provided with a venting system as part of the unit, Venting systems shall be provided with means for secure attachment to the appliance or wall structure. 1.2.7.1 The construc

、tion of a sealed combustionrsystem waterless toilet, shall be such that when installed in accordance with the manuf- acturers instructions, the combustion air supply will be in the same pressure zone as the vent outlet. 1.2.7.2 The design and specification of a sealed combustion system shall be such

、 that the air intake and vent pipes are supplied as parts of the appliance. -3- 1.3 MATERIALS 1.3.1 Toilets having parts and fittings used as a gas conduit shall be of substantial construction, adequate to meet the test requirement specified in Clause 3.14.1. 1.3.2 Ceramic baffling, where used, shal

、l be of substantial contruction adequate to meet the test requirement specified in Clause 3.14.2. 1.4 BURNERS 1.4.1 Burner(s) shall be constructed and installed so as to protect against fouling or clogging of ports and primary air openings while in service. 1.4.2 Burner(s) shall be secured so that t

、hey will not twist, slide or drop out of position. 1.4.3 Main burner(s) shall be easily removable and replaceable from the front, side or top of the toilet without disconnecting threaded joints in the gas supply line, other than those of the union type, and without disturbing or removing the charge.

、 This shall be accomplished without the use of special tools or requiring tool manipulation within the burner compartment. 1.4.4 1.4.5 1.4.6 1.4.7 1.5 1.5.1 1.5.2 Bodies of burners (including mixer head, mixer tube, and burner head) shall be of substantial and durable construction. They shall be con

Ribbon burners shall be constructed so that .the ribbon assembly can be easily removed, cleaned and replaced in the field without the use of special tools. Ports shall be machined or otherwise accurately made. Joints between mixer throats and fl

、ame zones shall not depend primarily on seaming or cement for tightness but shall be securely screwed, bolted, welded, brazed, or of an equally r i g id and ga s -tight cons t ruc t ion. PRIMARY AIR CONTROL When primary air control means are provided, they shall be designed so that the flow of prima

、ry air can be controlled to provide proper flame characteristics with all gases. Air shutters, when used, shall make a close fit with mixer faces and shall be provided with not more than two air open- ings, each of which approximates a circular opening near point of closure. When shutters are fully

、closed, there shall be no uncovered openings. -4- 1.5,3 Primary air adjustment means shall be attached so that they will not change position by the action of gravity when the means for locking the adjustment is loosened. 1,5.4 Air shutters, when used, shall be constructed of a rust-resisting materia

Cast-iron shutters are considered as 1.5,5 Sheet-metal air shutters shall be of a thickness not less than 0.0304 inch. If the

、thickness is less than 0.0508 inch, they shall have the outer edge turned at right angles, or be otherwise reinforced. 1.6 1.6.1 1.6.2 1.6.3 1.6.4 1.7 1.7.1 1.7.2 1.8 1.8.1 ORIFICES AND ORIFICE FITTINGS Fixed orifices shall be provided for main burners. Each orifice fitting shall be accessible for r

、eplacement of the orifice spud. Orifice fittings shall b ridgidly secured to prevent misalignment with the burner mixer. Main burner orifice spuds and orifice spud holders shall be constructed of metal melting at not less than 1450 F. AUTOMATIC IGNITION DEVICES A gas-fired toilet shall be equipped w

、ith a means for ignition of the main burner gas. Main burner igniters, and/or pilot igniters. (a) Electrodes, spark plugs, glow-coils, or other ignition means shall be placed so that they may be readily removed for servicing or replacement. This requirement shall be deemed met if the main burner ass

、embly to which these components are attached can be readily removed intact. (b) Electrodes , spark plugs , glow-coils , or other ignition means shall be of such design and materials, and installed so that the relative position of the ignition device and the main burner shall be maintained onstant. P

、ILOT BURNERS AND SAFETY SHUT-OFF DEVICES Except as noted in Clause 1.8.1.1, toilets shall be equipped with a complete safety shut-off device that will shut off the gas supply in the event of flame failure. It shall be either a certified type, or certified as a component of the toilet. - 5- 1.8.1.1 T

、oilets shall either be equipped with a complete safety shut-off device or shall be provided with means to maintain a constant purging action. 1.8.2 1.8.3 1.8.4 1.8.5 1.8.6 1.8.7 Where a pilot burner is used, means shall be provided to prevent the flow of gas to the main burner while the pilot burner

、 is being 1ight.ed. Where used, pilot burners shall be placed so as to permit safe lighting without burning the hand. Pilot burners shall be supported in such a manner that their position relative to the main burner is fixed. Pilot burner assemblies shall be constructed so that it is impossible to d

、irect the pilot flame in other than the correct direct ion. Tips of pilot burners used in conjunction with safety shut-off devices shall be made from AISI 416 steel or material having at least equivalent heat and corrosion-resistant characteristics. Nickel alloys of greater than 1.0 percent nickel,

、because of catalytic cracking effect, are not acceptable. Pilot burners shall have a fixed orifice or other means for limit- ing the flow of gas to the pilot, independent of the shut-off valve. The maximum rate obtainable by such means shall not exceed 2000 BTUH per pilot at normal test pressure. 1.

、9 Air Flow Control 1.9.1 The unit shall be interlocked so that the firing equipment will operate only if the air fan is functioning. interlock and an air flow proving switch(s) shall be used. An Electrical 1.9.1.1 At least the following shall be provided and electrically connected in series in the s

、afety control circuit and shall meet the requirement:s in 3.13.1. 1.9.1.2 An air flow proving device, that will not prove unless the require- ments in 3,13.1 are met. 1.10 AUTOMATIC VALVES 1.10.1 Automatic valves shall comply with the applicable construction requirements specified in the current Sta

、ndard for Automatic Valves CGA 6.5. 1.10.2 Electrically operated automatic valves shall be of a type that will close upon current failure. 1.10.3 When an automatic valve is used with a gas supply line of semi-rigid tubing, the automatic valve shall be adequately supported. -6- 1.11 1.11.1 1.11.2 1.1

A separate manual valve shall be supplied to control the gas to each separate main burner where separate burners are provided. When the valve is exposed to view, lever or tee handles shall be at right angles to the line of flow when in the “off“ position, and parallel when in the “on“ position. wher
