、UDC 821.332.42-034.14 : 629.423.33 DEUTSCHE NORMEN Mateh 1978 Stromschienen aus Stahl fr elektrische Bahnen; Technische Lieferbedingungen 1 S=Pe These conditions of delivery apply to steel conductor rails according to DIN 43 156 with a weight of approx- imately 40 kg/m. The application of these cond

、itions of delivery to conductor rails having other cross-sections or weights has to be separately agreed at the time of ordering. 2 Other relevant Standards DIN 43 156 Electric traction, conductor contact rail; dimensions and characteristics DIN 50 O49 Certificates on material testing DIN 50 125 Tes

、ting of metallic materiais; Tensile test specimens; directions for their preparation DIN 50 145 Testing of metallic materiais; tensile test 3 Material The conductor rail is made of soft unalloyed steel with low carbon content, i. e. of steel St Sch Str (material number 1 .O341 1. 4 Requirements 4.1

、Manufacturing method 4.1.1 The steel is made in the open-hearth furnace, in the electric furnace or by the oxygen-blowing method. 4.12 Within the coverage of the stipulations in Seo tion 4.1.1 the choice of melting method is left to the supplier, but must be made known to the purchaser on the latter

、s request. 4.2 “As delivered“ conditions The conductor rails are supplied in the hot rolled condi- tion. 4.3 Mode of delivery 4.3.1 The conductor rails are normally supplied without holes. 4.3.2 If information to thiseffect isgiven when ordering, the rails can also be supplied with holes (see DIN 43

、 156). 4.4 Mechanical properties The conductor rails must have a tensile strength of not less than 290 N/mm2 and an elongation at fracture (Lo = 5 do) of not less than 29 % as determined on longi- tudinal specimens. The tensile strength may be lower by up to 20 N/mm2 provided that the electrical con

、ductivity is at least 8.7 Sm/mm2 instead of the value usually prevailing according to Section 4.5. 4.5 Physical properties The electrical conductivity of the steel must be not less than 8.5 Sm/mm2 at 15OC. 4.6 Surface condition 4.6.1 The conductor rails must have a smooth surface consistent with the

、 method used for imparting their shape. 4.6.2 Surface defects such as scabs, grooving, laps and cracks may be eliminated by suitable means; any depres- sions caused in this way are to be levelled off. In the contact area such depressions shall not exceed a length of about 10cm and adepth of about 0.

、5 mm. Permissible dimensional deviations shall on no account be exceeded. If surface defects are to be rectified by welding also, this requires the approval of the purchaser. 4.7 Dimensions, permissible deviations from dimension and form 4.7.1 The cross-sectional dimensions and permissible deviation

、s from these dimensions are covered by DIN 43 156. 4.7.2 Length The normal length, which is also the greatest length of the conductor rail, is 18 m. The permissible deviation from the length ordered is 2 6 mm. Unless agreed to the contrary, short lengths up to a pro- portion not exceeding 10 % may b

、e included in a con- signment. The maximum undersize on length, however, shall not exceed 30% of the normal length ordered. 4.8 Weight and permissible weight deviations The weight of the conductor rail accordingto these condi- tions of delivery is = 40 kg/m. The permissible deviation from the theore

、tical weight is f 6 % for the individual rail. Continued on page 2 Explanations on page 2 Page 2 DIN 17 122 5 Testing 5.1 Predelivery tests The purchaser can arrange for predelivery tests to be carried out on the conductor rails. These tests are generally carried out by experts belonging to the supp

、lier firm, but, subject to special agreement at the time of ordering, they can also be performed by independent inspectors ap- pointed by the purchaser. 5.2 Extent of testing For testing, the rails are to be segregated according to melts. The following are to be carried out per consignment unit and

、melt one tensile test and one test for determining the electrical conductivity. 5.3 Sampling 5.3.1 The tensile specimen is to be taken from the rail head parallel to the direction of rolling in such a manner that its longitudinal axis is about 10 mm distant from the side face of the rail head. 5.3.2

、 For determining the electrical conductivity a rail shall be taken from the test unit. “ 5.4 Test methods to be used 5.4.1 The tensile test shall be performed according to DIN 50 145, normally by using the short proportional specimen with gauge length Lo = 5 do according to DIN 50 125. In cases of d

、oubt and for arbitration tests the use of these specimens is mandatory. 5.4.2 The testing of electrical conductivity is to be performed on the full section of the rail. For this purpose the rail must be clean and dry and must have a uniform temperature corresponding to the ambient temperature. The e

、lectrical conductivity is determined, for example, by passing a direct current of 200 to 1000 A over a test length of about 6 m. The test length shall not be shorter than 4 m. The current connections shall be attached at least 0.5 m outside the test length. The temperature of the rail is determined

、and the measured electrical resist- ance converted to the reference temperature of + 15OC by using a temperature coefficient of 0.5 96 per K. The average cross-sectional area of the rail shall be calculated from the length and weight, taking the density of the rail material as 7.87 kg/dm3. 5.5 Repea

、ttests 5.5.1 If the unsatisfactory outcome of a test is obviously the result of deficiencies in the test technique or due to faulty specimen preparation which, however, shall not be attributable to deficiencies stemming from the steel itself, then such result shall bedisregarded when deciding whether

、 the requirements are fulfilled, and the test concerned shall be repeated. 5.5.2 If the results of a properly performed test do not satisfy the prescribed requirements, repeat tests shall be carried out such that, for each unacceptable test, two further tests are performed on other pieces from the s

、ame test unit. 5.5.3 The test unit is deemed to be in conformity with the conditions if both repeat tests turn out satisfactorily. It can be rejected if one of the repeat tests is unsatis- factory . 5.6 Test certificates Subject to agreement at the time of ordering, one of the test certificates acco

、rding to DIN 50049 will be issued. 6 Marking Each conductor rail shall be marked with the symbol of the manufacturing works and the two final digits of the year of manufacture. 7 Complaints 1) 7.1 External and internal defects may only be objected to if they impair to an appreciable extent the appro

、priate working and utilization of the conductor rails according to these conditions of delivery. 7.2 The customer must give the supplier an opportunity of satisfying himself that the complaint is justified and where possible shall do this by submitting the material objected to as well as samples of

、the material as supplied. 1) For explanations regarding this complaints clause in technical conditions of delivery for iron and steel see DIN-Mitteilungen (DIN News) Vol. 40 (1961). No. 2, pages 111/112. Explanations This first issue of DIN 17 122 contains stipulations concerning the mechanical and

、physical properties of a soft unalloyed steel according to Section 3 which is used for manufacturing the conductor rail A 5100 according to DIN 43 156 intended for trac- tion current supply for electric railways. These stipulations are supplemented by the necessary data concerning mode of delivery, surface condition, testing and marking of the rails having a weight of approximately 40 kg/m.
