、ges46DIN EN 437:2009-09 National foreword This standard has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 238 “Test gases, test pressures and categories of appliances” (Secretariat: AFNOR, France). The responsible German body involved in its preparation was the Normenausschuss Gastechnik (Gas Technolo

、gy Standards Committee). It is intended to include this standard in the body of Codes of practice for gas issued by the DVGW Deutscher Verein des Gas- und Wasserfaches e.V. (German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water). Applying this standard When type testing gas appliances, vario

、us gas distribution conditions are simulated using limit gases and minimum/maximum test pressures to ensure safe operation under all foreseeable conditions of distribution, taking economically viable test conditions into consideration. The reference gases represent “nominal values”, by analogy, for

、each gas family and gas group. Reference gases and nominal supply pressures are used to determine nominal heat input, efficiency and emissions. When using gases having a quality lying between that of the limit gases and the reference gas, some parameters such as the pollutant emission content, effic

、iency, etc. can deviate from the values obtained under nominal conditions. However, the CO content may never exceed the maximum value specified in the relevant apparatus standards. Recent developments in low-emission burners have shown that the admixture of LPG/air in natural gas as specified in DVG

、W G 260 is not always adequately represented by the reference gases used. DIN EN 437 is to be used for all gas appliances operated with gases supplied by public distributors. The scope is limited to appliances with nominal heat input of 300 kW or lower, and to mass-produced appliances, for both tech

、nical and practical reasons. Manufacturers of larger appliances are to use other measures for ensuring that their appliances can handle the range of variation for contracted gas quality as specified in DVGW G 260 without affecting the safety of the appliance, since gas supply conditions are the same

、 for all appliances. This also applies to appliance standards that allow for deviations from the given reference gases and gas pressures. Reference conditions The widely-used conditions 15 C and 1 013,25 mbar have been selected here as reference conditions, although Table 4 gives the characteristics

、 of second family reference gases for the previously used conditions 0 C and 1 013,25 mbar. Appliance categories, country of destination The appliance category indicates the gas quality for which the appliance is suitable as determined in type testing. Because supply pressures may vary from country

、to country even for the same gas quality, it is essential that the gas pressure also be given. The suitability of the appliance for the intended distribution system can be assessed using both these values. However, giving the category and supply pressure alone does not provide enough information to

、determine in which countries the appliance may be used. To establish the country(ies) in which the appliance may be operated, additional information is needed, such as that on the name plate, any warnings on the packaging, installation and operating instructions in the language of the country of des

、tination, and any special national regulations regarding installation. 2 DIN EN 437:2009-09 DVGW G 260 specifies different gas quality limits than does DIN EN 437 (see diagram below). Second family gas groups Key Gasgruppen nach EN 437 = Gas groups as in EN 437 Europische Prfgase, 2. Gasfamilie = Eu

、ropean test gases, 2ndfamily Nationale Besonderheiten DE = National situation in Germany Normprfgas nach EN 437 = Reference gas as in EN 437 Verteilte Gasarten nach DVGW-Arbeitsblatt G 260 = Gas types as in DVGW G 260 Nennwerte nach G 260 = Nominal values as in G 260 As the diagram shows, for second

、 family gases, the H group of natural gases as in DVGW G 260 lies entirely within the E group of test gases as in DIN EN 437. This means that appliances which are suitable for Group E test gases as in this standard may also be used in Germany wherever Group H gases as in G 260 are distributed. In th

、e informative Annex B on “National situations”, for Germany this standard designates Group L gases as in DVGW G 260 as category “LL” test gases, which cover the Wobbe index range of 10,0 kWh/m3to 13,1 kWh/m3at 0 C. Category I2Eappliances are suitable for the SRG method (Sommers-Ruhrgas method) (cf.

、DVGW G 680), i.e. the Wobbe index of the gas supplied may briefly go down to 12 kWh/m3. However, such appliances cannot be adjusted for Group L natural gases. Category I2LLappliances adjusted for Group LL test gases or the adjustment “L” covers the entire LL range in this category. Category I2LLappl

、iances which cannot be adjusted for Group E natural gases are not permitted. Category I2Nappliances are self-adapting appliances which can be used without adjustments for Group H, L and LL natural gases as in G 260 and which always automatically adjust to the relevant nominal heat input. Changes in

、operating conditions (supply pressure of 17 mbar to 30 mbar, chimney drag, fluctuating net calorific values) are adjusted to within certain limits. 3 DIN EN 437:2009-09 4 Category I2Rappliances are equipped with a pressure regulator and are adjusted on site (e.g. forced draught burners). Category 2R

、 or 3R burners are to be run through in each gas group accordingly, and shall be adjustable according to the SRG method, supplementing the relevant tables in Annex B with additional information. Marking an appliance, e.g. with “category II2E3B/P” in connection with the relevant pressure for a direct

、 country of destination (e.g. marking appliances intended for Germany with “DE, G 20 20 mbar, G 30/G 31 50 mbar”, does not preclude additional marking with Category II2E+3+ for indirect countries of destination (e.g. France and Belgium), if suitability for this type of operation with a blocked press

、ure regulator has been proven during type testing. This harmonized version of the standard now includes third family gases at a supply pressure of 30 mbar for appliances for use in boats and leisure accommodation vehicles. Category II2E3Pis listed as a national alternative for Germany in EN 297, EN

、483 and EN 656. This category is not included in DIN EN 437, however, because the “P” in this category refers to pure propane, and the relevant delivery guarantees, e.g. as in LPG supply contracts, are to be met. When supplying liquefied petroleum gases as in DIN 51622 in bottles, there is no guaran

、tee that only propane has been delivered. The DIN Standard corresponding to the International Standard referred to in this document is as follows: ISO 6976 DIN 51857 Amendments This standard differs from DIN EN 437:2003-09 as follows: a) This standard now also contains the national situations for Al

The start and finish of text introduced or altered by amendment is indicated in the text by tags !“. This document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commissio

、n and the European Free Trade Association, and supports the requirements of 2.2 of the “Gas Appliances“ Directive (90/396/EEC). Annex A is normative. Annexes B, C and D are informative. EN 437 is intended to provide all the CEN Technical Committees preparing standards on gas appliances with definiti

、ons for test gases, test pressures and categories of appliances for use by these committees within the limits of the scope defined in clause 1. Similarly, it is emphasized that distributors of 2ndfamily gases using pressure couples should restrict themselves to their use in the normal manner but may

、, in exceptional circumstances and for short periods, use gases of the lowest Wobbe index at the lowest pressure, under conditions in which the safety of the appliance has to be ensured. The standard seeks to clarify the present situation with respect to test gases, test pressures and appliance cate

、gories. The concern for clarity has led to the elucidation of numerous categories and national situations or conditions. The complexity of the standard is likely to increase as new members join the Union. This revised standard incorporates the two previously published amendments and includes new app

、liance categories, the reason for which does not lie essentially with new gas resources but with new technical developments for appliances. !This standard can be considered as an important stage in the harmonization of test gases, test pressures and appliance categories and the quality of informatio

、n on gas usage in Europe. The standard also applies to Albania, Croatia, Republic of Macedonia and Turkey, countries whose national standardisation body is affiliate member of CEN (see Annex D). Annex B gives national situations relating to gases, gas pressures and appliance categories that apply na

DIN EN 437:2009-09 EN 437:2003+A1:2009 (E) 4 1 Scope This standard specifies the test gases, test pressures and categories of appliances relative to the use of !gaseous fuels“ of the first, second and third families. It serves as a reference document in the specific standards

、 for appliances that fall within the scope of the Council Directive on the approximation of the laws of Member States concerning gas appliances (90/396/EC). The standard makes recommendations for the use of the gases and pressures to be applied for the tests. The full procedure will be given in the corresponding appliance standards. NOTE The test gases and the test pressures specified in this standard are in principle intended to be used
