The committee responsible for the European document upon which this standard is based, CEN/TC 300, has had the status “Not currently active” for many years now and it will be dissolved as soon as the last European Standard for which it was responsible is withdrawn. Because CEN/TC 300 is no
、 longer active, it no longer adopts ISO Standards, nor does it revise or adopt Corrigenda. The procedure for dealing with revisions or corrections to ISO documents is laid down in BTN 7904:2007, Resolution BT 65/2007, as follows: if the ISO Standard is confirmed for a certain period, the correspondi
、ng EN ISO will be considered as confirmed for the same period; if ISO decides to withdraw or revise the ISO Standard, the corresponding EN ISO will be withdrawn after withdrawal or revision of the ISO standard.” This decision applies as of 2007-12-13. Because Corrigendum 1:2006 to ISO 9875:2000 was
、published before that date, the present document has been published into which the content of the Corrigendum has been incorporated. Furthermore, editorial changes have been made. The changes made by Corrigendum 1 only relate to the Normative references. The date of publication of IEC 60945, which i
、s cited in this standard, has been changed from Ed.3:1996 to Ed.4:2002. An undated reference would have been better, one reason being that the publication of a corrected text could have been avoided. Furthermore, in previous editions an erroneous reference was made to Regulation 12 of Chapter V of t
、he International Convention of Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS); actually, it is Regulations 18 and 19 that cover echo-sounding equipment. Strictly speaking, the SOLAS regulations named above should have been included in the Bibliography and not in the Normative references because there is no explicit
、reference to them in this standard. This has not been done in the present document, however, so that it conforms to the original documents upon which it is based. In addition to the legal units of measurement, this standard also uses the unit “kn” (“knots”). It should, however, be noted that the Ges
、etz ber Einheiten im Messwesen (German Law on units in metrology) prohibits the use of this unit for official and commercial purposes in Germany. The indication of this unit solely serves to facilitate the communication with those countries where this unit is used (import-export business). Conversio
