2、ND A-A-51137B 22 March 2007 SUPERSEDING A-A-51137A 5 February 1990 COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION TOOL HOLDERS, BORING TOOL AND BORING BAR, LATHE The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description for all federal agencies. 1. SCOPE. This commercial item descr

3、iption (CID) covers tool holders that are designed to hold and support boring tools and boring bars used on metalworking lathes. 2. CLASSIFICATION. The tool holders shall be of the following types, styles, and sizes. 2.1 Type. Type refers to the method the tool holder uses to mount the tool. The typ

4、e shall be as specified (see 7.3(b) and is described herein as follows: Type I - shank mounted Type II - t-slot mounted 2.2 Style. Style refers to the configuration of the tool holder. The style shall be as specified (see 7.3(c) and is described herein as follows: Type I - style A - reversible (see

6、A-A-51137B 2 2.3 Size. The dimensional features of the tool holders shall be in accordance with tables I, II, III, IV, and V as needed for the type, style, and size specified. The tolerances of all dimensional features shall conform to those identified on the suppliers parts drawings except where a

The tool holder shall be new and of the manufacturers commercial design in effect on the date of the solicitation. The tool holder

17、 shall meet the criteria specified herein and conform to current industrial practice. 3.2 Materials and hardness. Type I shank mounted tool holders shall be of drop-forged alloy steel, heat-treated to a Rockwell “C“ 40 to 52 hardness or alloy steel, and surface hardened to a Rockwell “C“ 50 to 55 ha

18、rdness. The type I, style C split clamp tool holder head shall be hardened to a Rockwell “C“ 26 to 34 hardness. Type II T-slot mounted tool holders shall be of steel. 3.3 Tool holders. The tool holders covered herein are described as follows. 3.3.1 Type I, style A. The type I, style A reversible sha

19、nk mounted boring and turning tool holders shall have a tool holding head grooved on top and bottom for supporting cutting tools with a swiveling yoke style clamping device. The shank shall be offset 45 degrees from the tool holding head. Dimensions of the tool holder shall conform to table I. Two s

20、olid boring tools, one square high speed tool steel bit, and a wrench to fit the clamp screw, shall be furnished with each tool holder. The boring tools shall conform to table VI for size specified. 3.3.2 Type I, style B. The type I, style B clamp block tool holder shall have a reversible clamp bloc

21、k to fasten boring bars to the tool holding head. One boring bar of the maximum size accommodated, a wrench to fit the clamp screws, and a wrench to fasten tool bits to the boring bar shall be furnished with each tool holder. Dimensions of the tool holder shall conform to table II. 3.3.3 Type I, sty

22、le C. The type I, style C split clamp tool holders shall be furnished with one boring bar of the maximum size within the capacity of the tool holder. The boring bar may be a plain bar with two tool bits, a wrench to fit the clamp screw, and a wrench to fit the tool bit fastener devise. Dimensions of

23、 the tool holders shall conform to table III. 3.3.4 Type II, style A. The type II, style A adjustable height tool holder shall be furnished with an adjustable ring for height adjustment of boring tools. One boring bar of the maximum size within the capacity of the holder, two tool bits, a wrench to

24、fit the clamp screw, and a wrench to fasten tool bits to the bar shall be furnished with each tool holder. Dimensions of the tool holders shall conform to table IV. 3.3.5 Type II, style B. The type II, style B fixed height tool holder shall accommodate three sizes of boring bars and shall be designe

25、d so that a slight turn of the clamp screw will secure or release both bar and holder. Three bars of appropriate size shall be furnished with each holder. A wrench to fit the clamp screw and a wrench to fasten tool bits to boring bars or a combination wrench to fit both the clamp screw and tool bit

These dimensions may be converted to SI units through the use of conversion factors and methods specified in FED-STD-376, “Preferred Metric Units for General Use by the Federal Government“. 3.6 Workman

32、ship. Workmanship of the tool holders should be of a quality equal to that of comparable products furnished on the commercial market. 4. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS 4.1 Recovered materials. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance w

33、ith paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). 5. PRODUCT CONFORMANCE PROVISIONS 5.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this CID, conform to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, an

34、d be the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance. 5.2 Market acceptability. The product offered must have been previously sold either to the government or on the commercial market. 6. PACKAGING 6.1 Preservati

35、on, packing, and marking. Preservation, packing, and marking shall be as specified in the acquisition order (see 7.3(f). 7. NOTES 7.1 Part or identification number (PIN).
