SCOPE. 1.1 Scope. This CID covers an insulated high
2、 impact plastic ice storage chest. 1.2 Intended use. This chest is intended to be used in the field for storage of ice or ice with limited Unitized Group Rations - A (UGR - A) at ambient temperatures up to +120oF. 2. CLASSIFICATION. 2.1 The chest shall be of the following types and classes as specif
3、ied (See 7.1). Type I - With wheels Type II - Without wheels Class 1 - Brown (Desert sand) (See 7.3). Class 2 - Green (Olive drab) (See 7.3). Class 3 - Commercial color selection (See 3.6). 3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS. 3.1 Design and construction. The ice storage chest shall consist of a sealed insul
4、ated high impact plastic container and cover. 6、ements. The container shall have an ice cube capacity of 175 pounds minimum. Integral molded grip handles shall be incorporated for lifting and moving the chest. The cover shall have a fixed and a sliding section. The fixed portion of the cover shall be attached to the container with four plastic ha
7、ndled thumbscrews. The sliding portion shall operate smoothly without binding. A manually operated recessed drain valve shall be provided on the under side of the chest with easy hand access. All hardware shall be constructed of noncorrosive materials for use in a field environment. The chests shall

Type I- With wheels 23 34 38 89 Type II-Without wheels 23 34 34 66 3.2 Cover. The cover shall be manufactured from the same plastic material and insulation as the container. The
9、sliding portion of the cover shall open fully for access to the interior. The cover shall be so designed that if any fluid is spilled on the closed cover it will not enter the interior of the container. 3.3 Thumbscrews. Four thumbscrews shall be used to secure the fixed portion of the cover to the c
10、ontainer. These screws shall be recessed into the body of the container. The screws shall screw into corrosion resistant threaded backing plates molded into the container. 3.4 Wheels. When wheels are required, two of the wheels shall be fixed and two shall be free to pivot. The fixed wheels shall ha
11、ve a minimum of 10 inches outside diameter and the pivoting wheels shall have a minimum of 5 inches outside diameter. A foot operated device shall be provided to lock one of the smaller wheels from rotating. 3.5 Without Wheels. The ice storage chest shall have a high impact plastic pad located at ea
12、ch bottom corner; the pad shall be attached to the chest with countersunk screws. The screws shall be screwed into corrosion resistant threaded backing plates molded into the chest. These pads shall extend below the bottom of the chest. 3.6 Color (“government unique” requirement) (See 7.6). The colo
13、r of the chest (both exterior and interior surfaces) shall be either Brown (Class 1 - Desert sand); Green (Class 2 - Olive drab); or Commercial color (Class 3) as specified (See 7.1 and 7.3). Chests of a specific lot shall not exhibit any variation in shade from the specific color selected and speci
14、fied in the contract for the production lot. Class 3 chests shall not reflect a “government unique” requirement for color. 15、rers standard commercial colors and the selected color shall be cited in the contract or purchase order. 3.7 Molded identification marking (“government unique” requirement (See 7.6). When specified (See 7.1), the chests shall be furnished with identification information molded or embossed into the s
16、urface of the container body. The information required shall be as follows: National Stock Number_ Manufacturers Name_ Manufacturers Address_ Manufacturers Model Number_ Date of Manufacture_ 3.8 Workmanship. The chest shall be free of holes, cracks, dents, malformation, or deep scratches. All burrs,
17、 slivers, splinters, sharp edges, dirt, grease, and foreign matter shall be removed. There shall be no defects affecting serviceability, durability, or appearance. 3.9 Drop test. An empty chest (with cover in the closed position) shall be dropped vertically from a height of four feet, two consecutiv
18、e times, on a flat wooden surface, at ambient temperature. After testing, and upon examination, the chest shall be free from cracks, denting or opening of the fixed portion of the cover. For the type I chest, there shall be no operational damage to the wheels. 3.10 Thermal performance test. The ches
19、t shall be filled with ice (175 pounds minimum). With the cover in the closed position, the chest shall lose no more than 20 pounds of ice in a 24 hour period when tested at 802oF. Prior to beginning the test, the chest shall be drained of the initial melted ice water, then tested as specified above
20、 by draining the melted ice water at the end of a 24 hour period, and weighing the quantity of melted ice. 3.11 Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, provided they meet specified tolerances usi
21、ng conversion tables contained in the latest revision of FED-STD-376, “Preferred Metric Units for General Use by the Federal Government”, and all other requirements of this CID are met. If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch
22、-pound units, a request should be made to the contracting officer to determine if the product is acceptable. The contracting officer has the option of accepting or rejecting the product. 4. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). 5. PRODUCT CONFORMANCE PROVISIONS. 5.1 Product conformance.
24、 The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this commercial item description except for any Government unique requirement specified, shall conform to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices, and be the same product offered for sale i
25、n the commercial marketplace, or is the same product that has successfully been delivered to the Government on a previous contract or purchase order. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under t
26、he provisions of the contract. 5.2 Market acceptability criteria. The following market acceptability criteria are necessary to document the quality of the product to be provided under this CID. a. The company producing the item meeting the requirements of this CID must have been producing these item
27、s for at least 2 years. b. The company must have sold at least 250 items meeting the requirements of this CID, except for the Government unique requirements, in the commercial or government marketplace over the last 2 years. 5.3 Warranty. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order,
28、 the manufacturers standard commercial warranty shall apply. 5.4 NSF International standard compliance. Prior to approval of the first shipment the contractor shall submit satisfactory evidence to the contracting officer or his authorized representative that the ice storage chests conform to the app
29、licable requirements of NSF International Criteria C-2. Acceptable evidence of meeting the requirements of NSF International Criteria C-2 shall be a listing in the current edition of the NSF International, “Listing of Food Service Equipment” and display of the NSF International mark on the finished
30、product, or a certified test report from a recognized independent laboratory acceptable to the Medical Authority for the buying agency. Test laboratories acceptable to the Army Medical Department include: NSF International, Underwriters Laboratories, Sanitation and Inchcape Testing Services, and ETL
31、 Testing Laboratories. 6. PACKAGING. 6.1 Packaging. Preservation, packing, palletization and marking requirements shall be as specified in the contract or purchase order (See 7.1).
