ABSTRACT Abstract. The lanyards, pistol and wh
2、istle, shall be of one type, intended for use as a component of the military police equipment. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS General description. The lanyards, pistol and whistle, shall be made by plaiting a section of two strands of the scarlet and gold braided cord. The two strands shall be joined paral
3、lel to each other by brass slide keepers placed one at each end of the plaited sections. The snap hook and D rings shall be attached to the fasteners by rolling the end of the fastener securely over the D ring, but permitting free rotation of the D ring. The 1 inch sides of the fasteners shall be ro
4、lled completely over the ends of the strands with each side staked securely at two places into each cord. Both strands, at each end of the lanyard, shall be wrapped together tightly with the scarlet cotton yarn. cotton wrapping yarn shall be completely covered by the slide cord overwrapping as shown

The cotton yarn for underwrapping shall be a soft twist, 8/2 ply or equivalent. The color of the yarn shall be Scarlet, Cable No. 65006, and shall show a minimum of Class 4 colorfa
8、stness to water, when tested as specified according to AATCC Test Method 107. The cord shall be tubular, braided over the cotton core with a two over, two under weave and with not less than 16 picks per inch. The cord shall be braided on a 16-carrier machine, with two ends of scarlet rayon per carri
9、er on 8 carriers and two ends of gold rayon per carrier on 8 carriers, equally spaced. The outer cover of the cord shall be made of continuous filament rayon yarn, 450/3 denier. The colors shall be Scarlet, Cable No. 65006, and Gold, Cable No. 65021, respectively, as listed in the US Army Color Card
10、 for the Arms and Services. shall show a minimum of Class 4 colorfastness to light, laundering, perspiration and wet dry cleaning, and a minimum of Grade 4 minimum colorfastness to crocking, when tested as specified according to the following AATCC Test Methods: AATCC 16, 16A - Colorfastness to Ligh
11、t; AATCC 61, Test 1A - Colorfastness to Laundering; AATCC 15 - Colorfastness to Perspiration; AATCC 132 - Colorfastness to Wet-Dry Cleaning; and AATCC 8 - Colorfastness to Crocking. The dyed yarns The core shall consist of not less than 16 ends of 4-cord, 20/3 ply, cotton cable cord. The color of th
12、e core shall be gold, or a shade to closely match the color of the outer cover gold rayon yarn, and shall show a minimum of Class 4 colorfastness to water, when tested as specified according to AATCC Test Method 107. The finished lanyard cord shall have a well rounded, firm appearance, and shall be
13、7/32 1/32 inches in diameter. Two strands of the braided cord shall be individually plaited with 28 2 2 plaits, commencing 15-1/2 2 1/2 inches from one end of the strand. The overall length of the lanyard shall be 60 2 1 inches exclusive of the snap hook when tested as specified according to the fol
14、lowing method: The finished lanyard shall not be stretched or tensioned prior to the length test. lanyard shall be suspended vertically under a tension of 10 ounces and then measured to determine compliance with the specified overall length. Slide cord. The slide cord shall be made of rayon yarn wit
15、h cotton filler thread 2/2 ply or equivalent. The color of the cord shall be Scarlet, Cable No. 65006, or a reasonably close shade match, and shall show a minimum of Class 4 colorfastness to light, laundering, perspiration and wet dry cleaning, and a minimum of Grade 4 colorfastness to crocking, whe

All metal parts of the lanyard, except the spring for the snap hook shall be made of copper alloy No. 230. Copper alloy No. 314 (leaded commercial bronze) may be used as an a
18、lternate. The parts shall have a clean, bright finish free from pits and other defects. All brass parts shall be thoroughly coated with one coat of lacquer. The lacquer shall be a pale, clean, nonpigmented, synthetic lacquer which, when applied, shall not materially change the color and finish of th
19、e brass parts. The snap hook shall be the swiveleye type shown on Figure 1, and shall be capable of withstanding a tension of not less than 100 pounds. The snap hook shall have a recessed, clinched spring construction as shown on Figure 1. The spring shall be made of copper alloy No. 530, and shall,
20、 after being fully depressed and released, snap shut with no gap between the spring and the hook. The fasteners shall be made of 20 gage (0.032 inch nominal) sheet or strip. The side edges shall be serrated to grip the braided cord. The D rings shall be made of 11 gage (0.0907 inch nominal) wire, ha
21、ving an inside dimension of 1/2 2 1/32 inch as shown on Figure 2. The ends shall be butted together and aligned. The slide keepers shall be barrel shaped, having an inside diameter of 5/16 inches, a 3/32 inch wall thickness at the center, and shall be 5/8 2 1/16 inch in length. The inside surface sh
22、all be smoothly finished, and the lip at each end rounded to avoid abrasion of the cord. Workmanship. After completion, the finished lanyards shall be thoroughly cleaned, and all loose thread, lint, and foreign matter removed. Product demonstration model. When required, offerors shall submit samples
23、 of their intended production. The product demonstration model will consist of units independently developed. Product demonstration models will be analyzed and evaluated by the government. Evaluation criteria and basis for award are contained in the solicitation. Product demonstration models will be
24、 retained by the government. One (1) product demonstration model approved by DPSC under the resultant contract will serve as a manufacturing standard for the corresponding production items delivered under this contract. Offerors are advised that the product demonstration model does not relieve the s

The
26、 contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and that the product conforms to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prio
27、r to the first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for, under the provisions of the contract. Reliance on contractor QA systems shall not relieve the contractor of the responsibility of ensuring that all products or supplies submitted to the government for acceptance comply with all
28、 requirements of the contract. Examination. Lanyard lots shall be inspected in accordance with “Sampling Procedures and Tables for Inspection by Attributes“, ANSI/ASQC 21.4, published by the American Society for Quality Control. Visual examination. The lanyards shall be examined for the defects list
29、ed below. The sample unit is one lanyard. The inspection level shall be II, and the acceptable quality level (AQL), expressed in terms of defects per hundred units, shall be 4.0. Defects. The lanyard shall be examined for the following defects: Cord: Color combination or pattern not as specified; no
30、t fabricated of specified material; spotted, stained or soiled; has objectionable odor; core not completely covered; unevenly braided, not well rounded or not firm; any cut or tear; broken, missing ends or picks; pulled thread(s); frayed edges; twisted or distorted cord; cord other than required con
31、struction. Plaiting: plaiting omitted; unevenly or loosely plaited; less than twenty-five or more than thirty-one plaits. Metal parts: Design not as specified; scratches, pits, or dents noticeable from approximately an 18 inch distance; evidence of corrosion; evidence that lacquer was not applied, n
32、ot smooth, not continuous or adherent, i.e. flaking, blistering, bubbles, peeling or has run, sap or drops; foreign matter imbedded in finish, i.e. dust, lint; any discoloration; component malformed, fails to function properly; snap hook spring does not close fully, causing gap between spring and ho
33、ok; any sharp edge or burr, fractured, split or broken; lip of each end of slide keeper not rounded. The sample unit shall be one lanyard; the inspection level shall be 5-2, and the AQL, expressed in terms of defects per hundred units, shall be 2.5.
