This commercial item description (CID) covers bench-type safety cans for containingflammable or solvent liquids used in the cleaning or swabbing of small parts.2. CLASSIFICATION. The bench-type safety cans shall be of the following sizes, as
4、specified(see 7.2):Size:1-quart (0.95 litre (L)2-quart (1.89 L)2-gallon (7.57 L)3-gallon (11.36 L)3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.3.1 Description . The bench-type safety cans shall have a cylindrical body with a removableretainer ring, a hinged cover, and a perforated metal dasher (fire baffle), which is
5、 mounted on acoil spring. 6、A-592112The carrying handles shall be located directly opposite each other and 90 degrees from the coverhinge. The cover support stand shall position the cover horizontal within 5 degrees of the topof the body. The carrying handles and cover stand are not required on 1-quart (0.95 L) sizebench-type
7、safety cans. The bench-type safety cans shall be free of leakage. The dasher shall nottouch the surface of the liquid when the can is filled to capacity.3.2 Standard commercial product . The bench-type safety cans shall, as a minimum, be inaccordance with the requirements of this commercial item des
8、cription and shall be themanufacturers standard commercial product. Additional or better features which are notspecifically prohibited by this commercial item description but which are a part of themanufacturers standard commercial product, shall be included in the bench-type safety cans beingfurnis
9、hed. A standard commercial product is a product which has been sold or is being currentlyoffered for sale on the commercial market through advertisements or manufacturers catalogs, orbrochures, and represents the latest production model.3.3 Dimensions . The dimensions of the bench-type safety cans s
10、hall be as shown in table I for thesize specified (see 7.2). The nominal plate thickness shall be 0.0179-inch (0.45 millimetre (mm)for the 1- and 2-quart (0.95 and 1.89 L) sizes and 0.0239-inch (0.61 mm) for the 2- and 3-gallon(7.51 and 11.36 L) sizes. 14、nts .3.4.1 Body and bottom. The body and bottom shall be attached to each other in accordance withmanufacturers standard practice. The bottom edge shall be rolled over to eliminate sharp edges.Not less than two clips, opposite each other, shall be welded to the body for engagement with theretainer r
15、ing. The clips shall be so positioned for proper retention and release of the retainer ring.The clips shall be fabricated from plate having a thickness not less than that specified for the body.3.4.2 Retainer ring. The retainer ring, when assembled to the body, shall be designed to maintainequal and
16、 positive pressure on the dasher and coil spring assembly. The ring shall have adiscontinued, rolled, outer lip and the ring shall be notched to fit inside the body. The ring shallbe retained on the body by the body clips engaging the rolled outer lips of the ring. The ring shallbe removable by rota
17、ting, thereby disengaging the lips of the retainer ring from the body clips.3.4.3 Cover. The cover shall be attached to the body by a metal hinge. The hinge shall belocated astride or beside any body seam. The cover shall have a handle welded to it. When thecan has a cover support stand that may be
18、used as a handle, a separate handle is not required.3.4.4 Dasher. The dasher shall be perforated over the entire surface. The dasher shall have aflanged rim of sufficient depth to enclose the coil spring, and shall be concaved at the center toprovide a recessed area.3.4.5 Coil spring. The coil sprin
19、g shall be formed of one piece of wire. The spring shall be coiledto an outside diameter which will provide engagement within the dasher.3.4.6 Handles and cover support stand. The cover handle, the two carrying handles, and thecover support stand shall each be made of one piece of plate having a thi
20、ckness not less than thatspecified for the body. The carrying handles and the retaining clips (see 3.4.1) may be fabricatedas a carrying handle with two retaining clips.3.5 Treatment and painting . Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2), the cleaning bench-type safetycans shall be treated and painted
21、in accordance with the manufacturers standard practice. Allsurfaces of the cleaning bench-type safety cans, other than corrosion-resistant steel, shall beprotected against corrosion and present a neat appearance.3.6 Marking . Each can shall be permanently marked on the body or cover using not less t
22、han0.25-inch (6.35 mm) characters, showing “US,” size, and manufacturers code identificationnumber, name, or trademark.4. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS.4.1 Materials . The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximumextent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of t
23、he Federal Acquisition Regulation(FAR). If a product is manuf
