3、ll federal agencies.1. SCOPE. This commercial item description (CID) covers electronic and electric-motor-drivenoutdoor warning sirens capable of providing 360-degree coverage. The sirens shall be complete withall controls and auxiliary equipment, and suitable for mounting roofs or other supporting
4、structureswithout additional protection from the weather.2. CLASSIFICATION. The sirens shall be of the following types, classes, styles, and sizes. The type,class, style, and size to be furnished shall be as specified (see 7.2(b).Type I - Electric-motor-driven vertical sirenType II - Electric-motor-

SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS3.1 General requirements. The siren shall be new and one of the manufacturers current modelscapable of operation in accordan
7、ce with the requirements herein. All parts subject to wear, breakage,or distortion shall be accessible for adjustment, replacement, and repair. The sirens shall be electric-motor-driven or electronic, and shall be complete in all details. They shall be of rugged construction towithstand vibration an
8、d exposure to severe weather conditions without excessive deterioration and shallbe capable of operating after long periods of nonuse. The sirens shall be constructed so that dust,water, and condensation within the unit will be at a minimum. Openings shall be screened to prevent theentrance of anima
9、ls and larger insects.3.2 Components. The siren shall include, as a minimum, the following components:3.2.1 Housing. The motor-driven siren or electronic siren speaker housing shall be constructed ofpowder coat painted sheet metal, color-impregnated fiberglass, fiberglass-reinforced moldedpolycarbon
10、ate resin, or aluminum (electronic siren speakers only). For sheet metal, all joints shall beriveted or welded securely, except bolts that shall be used to fasten portions made removable forinspection and maintenance of the interior mechanism. Sheet metal screws shall not be used. Fiberglassand poly
11、carbonate housings shall be drilled and shall be securely bolted to the supporting framework.3.2.2 Mounting. A base shall be provided for mounting the siren on a flat, horizontal surface; orbrackets for a slant roof or pole mount.3.2.3 Fan and stator (motor-driven sirens only). The fan and stator fo
12、r motor-driven sirens shall bemade of aluminum. The fan and other rotating parts of the siren shall be in static and dynamic balance. The fan shall be fastened securely to the motor shaft and a key shall be used to prevent slipping. Bafflesshall be provided within the housing, or the design of the s

The controls for class 2 coded siren shall include a code transmitter sui
14、tablefor the transmission of coded signals as specified (see 7.2(c).3.2.5 Electrical system. Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(d), the electrical system shall conform tothe American National Standards Institute /National Fire Protection Association (ANSI/NFPA) 79,“Electrical Standard for Industria
15、l Machinery“ (DoD adopted).3.2.6 Electric motors. The motor for an electric-motor-driven siren shall have sealed and permanentlylubricated ball or roller bearings, shall be energy efficient, and shall conform tothe National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) MG-1, “Motors and Generators“ (D
16、oDadopted), and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 674, “Electric Motors and Generators for use inDivision 1 Hazardous (Classified) Locations“ (DoD adopted). The motor shall be suitable for operationon an electric circuit with voltage (AC or DC), frequency, and phase (single or three-phase) as specified
17、(see 7.2(e).3.2.6.1 Control cabinets. Control cabinets for motor starters or electronic packages shall be of theproper size and suitable for the specific application, and shall conform to NEMA ICS 6, “IndustrialControls and Systems: Enclosures“ (DoD adopted). Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(f),
18、theenclosure shall conform to NEMA type 1 for indoor mounting or type 3R for outdoor mounting, asdefined by NEMA 250, “Enclosures for Electrical Equipment (1000 Volts Maximum)“ (DoD adopted).3.3 Performance. Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(g), the siren shall meet the sound pressure level(SPL) r

REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS4.1 Recovered materials. T

21、l protection. The item shall meet all applicable Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) restrictions in effect on the date of the contract. These regulations apply to the emission ofmaterials hazardous to the environment or the users health and shall be adhered to during themanufacturing, service, tra
22、nsportation, storage, and operation/use of the item.5. PRODUCT CONFORMANCE PROVISIONS5.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of thiscommercial item description, conform to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards, andquality assurance practi
23、ces, and be the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance.5.2 Inspection. The siren shall be inspected to determine compliance with all requirements specified inthis CID.5.3 Testing. Unless otherwise specified
24、(see 7.2(h), the siren shall be tested in accordance withsections 5.3.1 through 5.3.4.5.3.1 Test setup and conditions. Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(i), the manufacturer shallconduct all tests required by the Government. The manufacturer shall provide test instruments andequipment with calibra
25、tion traceable to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and shallprovide certification of calibration as specified (see 7.2(j). Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(k), thesiren shall be tested in accordance with environmental conditions specified in ANSI S12.14, “Methodsfor the Field
26、 Measurement of the Sound Output of Audible Public Warning Devices Installed at FixedLocations Outdoors“.5.3.2 Operational test. The siren shall be operated in accordance with the manufacturers standardoperating procedures. Proper operation of all controls and features shall be verified during the t
27、rialperiod.5.3.3 Performance tests. The siren shall be tested for conformance with section 3.3 in accordance withANSI S12.14.5.3.4 Optional tests. Optional tests shall be conducted as specified (see 7.2(l).5.4 Acceptance. Unless otherwise specified (see 7.2(m), preliminary and final acceptance tests
28、 shallbe conducted at the manufacturers site. The results of the SPL tests shall be compared with therequirements shown in table II.
