SCOPE. This commercial item description covers the requirements for a non-ballis
2、tic body shield to be used by dismounted military personnel. 2. CLASSIFICATION. The non-ballistic body shield shall be of two types and one size for each type. Type I - Side-by-side and overhead interlinking capabilities Type II - Non-interlinking 3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS. 3.1 General. The non-bal
3、listic body shield, hereafter referred to as body shield, shall be the manufacturer?s commercial product except for any changes necessary to comply with the government requirements. 3.2 Description 3.2.1 Design. Type I - The body shield shall be rectangular in shape with an outer panel and a reinfor
4、cing panel of transparent polycarbonate or better materials. The body shield outer panel shall be designed with side moldings to allow for side-by-side interlinking capabilities with not only the same type of body shields but also with virtually any type of shields commercially available for mixed f
5、ormations or multi-force operation. The reinforcing panel shall allow for horizontal interlinking capabilities. The term
7、“horizontal” is in reference to the interlinking plane. Type II - The body shield shall be rectangular in shape consisting of a single curved panel of transparent polycarbonate or better material. The shield shall have smooth edges and radius corners to prevent injuries. 3.2.2 Body Shield Handles. T
8、ype I - The body shield shall provide an arm hook or clip and two secured vertical hand loops for easy carrying. The arm hook and hand loops shall be made from metal materials covered with non-slip elastomeric or equal materials for a secure handgrip. The body shield shall also include a pad for imp
9、act protection near the forearm. Type II - The body shield shall provide a vertical hand loop and a breakaway webbing arm strap, which will allow the user to quickly disengage from the body shield. The webbing arm strap shall be made from nylon or equal material with a fungus resistant treatment. Th
10、e hand loop shall be made from a metal material covered with a non-slip elastomeric or equal material for a secure handgrip. The body shield shall also include a pad for impact protection near the forearm and hand. 3.2.3 Shield Attachment Assembly. The body shield shall be designed in such a manner
11、to allow components (reinforcing panel, breakaway webbing arm straps, hook and loop handles) to be assembled and dis-assembled using nuts and bolts rather than permanent or rivet fixtures with only a standard screwdriver and pliers. The bolts shall not protrude more than 0.125 inches to prevent inju
12、ries to the user. 3.2.4 Item Dimensions. Type I - The body shield height (outer panel) shall not be less than 47.0 inches or more than 48 inches high and the width shall be 23 + 1 .O inches wide. The thickness of the outer panel shall be 4mm thick and the reinforcing panel shall not be less than 3mm
13、 and measuring approximately 25 1/2 X 17 inches. Type II - The body shield height (outer panel) shall not be less than 47.0 inches or more than 48 inches high and the width shall be 23 + 1 .O inches wide. The thickness of the panel shall be 6mm thick. 3.2.5 End Item Wei bubbles or other inclusions w
14、ithin the transparent material, a loose handle system, a non-ambidextrous handle system, rough or sharp edges, torn elastomeric foam or trauma pad, haze or cloudiness; any serious material defects, distorted parts or other evidence of poor workmanship; any component part omitted; any items not packa
