SCOPE. This sp

2、ecification covers the minimum requirements of corrugated box and pallet system used in the Defense Depots. 2. CLASSIFICATION. 2.1 Classification. Corrugated collapsible reusable bulk packing system will be of the following styles, entry designation, and weather resistant designation, as specified.

4、r Identifying Number (PIN): The following PIN procedure is for government purposes and does not constitute a requirement for the contractor. This example describes a PIN for CID A-A-59554. 7、 2 3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS. 3.1 Reclaimable material. Bulk packing system shall be 100% recyclable. 3.2 Set-up. Bulk packing system shall be designed to be both set-up and knock down, one-man operation. 3.3 Collapsibility. Box component shall collapse upon corrugated pallet. Lid will fit snuggly

8、over collapsed unit. Unit shall have a height no greater than 12 total. The pallet height shall be no greater than 6” maximum. 3.4 Pallet construction. Pallet upper deck corrugated material shall be a minimum of 275 lb/sq. inch (psi) double-wall. Pallet lower deck (bottom surface) corrugated materia

9、l shall be 2 laminated sheets of 275 lb/msf double wall. Pallets shall have either 9 cores or 3 stringers minimum. Cores and stringers shall be wrapped to in place to help secure and prevent shifting and shearing. Forklift tine positions shall be a minimum of 7.50” and a maximum of 12”. The forklift

10、 tine opening shall begin at 8.25” 8.50” from each end on all sides. The height of the forklift tine opening shall be 3” minimum. 3.5 Box construction. Box corrugated material shall be a minimum of 400 psi double-wall. Style shall be Half Slotted Container (HSC) with Regular Slotted Container (RSC)

11、bottom. Fluting shall be vertical to the depth of the box. Box maximum capacity shall be 2500 pounds. 3.6 Weather resistant material. When specified, single face flute shall include a water resistant resin to enhance and ensure flute formation and bonding. All water resistant pallets shall be assemb

12、led using a high performance water based adhesive product, developed to bond paper. 3.7 Adhesive. Box, pallet and lid shall use waterproof adhesive (WPA) in construction. 3.8 Box attachment. Box shall be attached to corrugated pallet. Pallet and box shall be of singular construction. 3.9 Bottom surf

13、ace. The load-bearing surface in contact with the ground (pallet footprint) shall be a minimum of 40 percent of the top deck area. 3.10 Flatness. When the pallet bottom is placed on a flat surface, the pallet top shall not vary more than 0.25” from the average pallet height. 3.11 Box lid material. L

14、id-corrugated material shall be a minimum of 400 psi double-wall. 3.12 Identification marking. The following marking shall be applied to the pallet for identification: Box certification stamp and manufacturers CAGE code. 4. PRODUCT CONFORMANCE PROVISION. 4.1 Product conformance. The products provide

15、d shall meet the salient characteristics of this commercial item description, conform to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and be the same product offered for sale in the commercial market. The government reserves the right to require proof of su

16、ch conformance. 4.2 Inspection. The bulk packing system shall be inspected as specified below to determine compliance with all requirements specified in this CID. 4.2.1 Pallet component. Measure the pallet length and width. The length and the width of the pallet shall be within specified style plus

Measurement of the cubic feet of the fully assembled box within specified style shall have a plus or minus tolerance of 1%. 4.2.3 Entry. Fo

18、rks shall be fully extended through the shorter side of the pallet. Pallet jack entry need only be 2 way. 4.2.4 Bottom surface. Measure the bottom deck and calculate 40 percent of the top deck area. 4.2.5 Forklift tine openings: The openings on the four pallet sides shall be measured and shall be wi

19、thin as specified (see 3.4). 4.2.6 Height. The height of a bulk packing system shall be measured not to exceed 12” in the collapsed mode. 4.2.7 Flatness. Measure the pallet height at the four corners and at the midpoints of the perimeter. Average the eight measurements. Place the pallet on a flat su

20、rface. At the same eight points, measure the distance from the flat surface to the pallet top. No measurement shall exceed the average pallet height by more then 0.25”. 4.2.8 Squareness. Measure the two diagonals of the top deck. The differences of the two measurements shall not be greater than 0.75

21、”. 4.2.9 Identification marking. Visually inspect for presence of identification markings. 4.2.10 Compression test. Box compression shall meet an average of 3500 lb. compression at 1.270 inches, in accordance with ASTM D4577 (Section 7.2 no fewer than 5 samples). 4.2.11 Board flexural rigidity test.

22、 Board shall meet an average flex rigidity value tested on a Composite Flex Tester of 70 N-m on combined board samples (no fewer than 5 samples). 4.2.12 Resiliency. Bulk packing system shall be capable of withstanding automatic banding equipment and moving through an automated conveyor system. 5. PA

23、CKAGING. Preservation, packing and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order. 6. NOTES. 6.1 Ordering data. The contract or order should specify the following: a. CID document number, revision, and CID PIN. b. Packaging requirements. 6.2 Styles C,D, E, and F are deleted under this revisi
