2、nistration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a replacement for MIL-S-38004 for all Federal agencies. 1. SCOPE. This commercial item description covers one type of felt socks intended for wear with the extreme cold weather boot by personnel of the Department of Defense. 2.
3、 CLASSIFICATION. The socks shall be one type only and available in the following sizes: Sizes: Extra-small (XS) Small (S) Medium (M) (Large (L) 3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS 3.1 quarters and a bottom stitched together. The socks shall have a tape stay at the front and a tape pull strap at the back (ref
4、er to Figure 1). Description. The socks shall be made of wool felt, natural color and-consist of two 3.2 Material. 3.2.1. - Felt. Unless otherwise specified the felt for the socks shall be made of 1 O0 percent fleece, 1 O0 percent pulled sheeps wool or a mixture of fleece and pulled sheeps wool. The
5、 fleece or wool shall not be lower in grade than the 40s of U.S standard. The finished fabric shall conform to the requirements in Table I. The finished fabric shall be soft and flexible and shall be thoroughly scoured. The wool shall be of suitable staple length to comply with this commercial item
6、description. The face and the back shall be given a good cover nap. Reused wool or any other similar waste shall not be used (see 4.1). The tape at the top of the sock (refer to Figure i), front and back shall be cotton, bleached white, 5/8 (+/
9、- 1/8) inch wide with a breaking strength (min.) of 1 15 pounds in accordance with ASTM D5034. The back pull strap shall be securely attached with a loop at top center back and have a 2- 1/2 inch opening. The front stay shall be 1 -3/4 inches in length, folded across the top of the front seam and bo
10、x stitched. 3.4 Thread. The thread used for sewing shall be standard commercial thread, 100% cotton plied, with a breaking strength (min.) of 5.3 pounds in accordance with ASTM D5034. 3.5 Finished measurements and weights. The finished measurements shall be in accordance with Table II (refer to Figu
11、re 2). The minimum weight per six pairs of socks shall be 4-114 pounds for extra small sizes, 4-1/2 pounds for small sizes, 4-3/4 pounds for medium sizes, 5 pounds for large sizes. 3.6 Patterns. Standard patterns shall be furnished for used as a guide to cut working patterns. The standard patterns s
