3、e II, classes A, B, and C of GGG-S-62D by all federal agencies. 1. SCOPE. This commercial item description (CID) covers lightweight, general purpose, and heavy-duty, gasoline-engine-driven, portable chain saws. Each chain saw shall consist of a power unit, controls, power transmission housing, cutte

4、r guide bar, cutting chain, chain-adjusting device, oiling device, and operating handles. 2. CLASSIFICATION. The chain saws shall be of the following types: Type I - Lightweight Type II - General purpose Type III - Heavy-duty 3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS 3.1 Materials. The chain saw shall be new (not

5、a prototype) and one of the manufacturers current products capable of use in accordance with the performance requirements specified herein. Materials shall be as specified or when not specified shall be selected by the supplier and shall be subject to all requirements specified. 3.1.1 Material deter

6、ioration prevention. The chain saw shall be fabricated from compatible materials, inherently corrosion resistant or be treated to provide protection against the various forms of corrosion and deterioration that it may be exposed in any of the applicable operation and storage environments. 3.1.2 Diss

7、imilar metals. Dissimilar metals shall not be used in intimate contact with each other unless protected against galvanic corrosion. The minimum effective cutting capacity of types I, II, and III chain saws shall be as defined as the minimum circular diameter of logs to be cut. The effective cutting capacity shall be within the ranges sh

12、own in table I, or as specified by the procuring activity in the purchase order or contract (see 7.3(b). 3.2.2 Weight. The maximum empty weight (see table I) of types I, II, and III chain saws shall be the weight of the complete power unit, but not including the weight of the guide bar, chain, spike

13、s, fuel, chain lubricating oil or accessories which are optional or sold separately. 3.2.3 Engine displacement. The minimum engine displacement for types I, II, and II chain saws shall not be less than that shown in table I. 3.2.4 Production rate. Types I, II, and III chain saws shall have productio

14、n rates not less than the minimum specified in table I, using green oak logs with a density of 64 to 71 pounds per cubic foot. The saw shall be capable of making five complete cutoffs in a selected oak log. 3.2.5 Cutter chain efficiency. The cutter chain shall maintain 50 percent of the initial maxi

15、mum cutting efficiency after cutting the accumulated minimum square feet, of green oak logs with a density of 64 to 71 pounds per cubic foot, at the rates specified in table 1. 3.2.6 Power unit endurance at constant speed with full load. Types I, II, and III chain saws shall have the capability to o

16、perate for the minimum accumulated time shown in table I, at a constant speed with full load. The power unit shall operate for the minimum accumulated time, without causing damage to or permanent deformation of parts or components. 3.2.7 Power unit endurance at variable speed and load. Types I, II,

17、and III chain saws shall have the capability to operate for the minimum accumulated time shown in table I, at variable speed and load. 18、leNo reproduction or networking permitted without license from IHS-,-,-A-A-59663 3 3.3 Power unit. The power unit shall be a lightweight, air-cooled, 2-cycle gasoline engine. The engine shall withstand 75 hours at constant speed at full load (see 3.2.6), or variable speed and load (see 3.2.7). The e

19、ngine shall develop sufficient power to meet all requirements specified herein, for the applicable type saw, with not more than two spark plug changes or cleanings and two cylinder port cleanings. 3.3.1 Ignition system. The engine ignition system shall be solid state and shall develop sufficient vol

20、tage to enable the engine to start and operate under all conditions specified herein. Ignition wiring shall be secured to prevent chafing from vibration or moving parts. 3.3.2 Bearings. The engine crankshaft shall be supported by ball or roller antifriction bearings at each end of the crankshaft. Ne

21、edle bearings shall be utilized at both the crankpin and piston pin ends of the connecting rod, except sleeve bearings are permitted at the piston pin on type I saws. 3.3.3 Carburetor. The carburetor shall enable the engine to operate in all positions. It shall be equipped with a fuel strainer at th

22、e fuel inlet and shall have an adjustable idle jet for adjusting the air-fuel ratio at idle speed. The carburetor air inlet shall be fitted with an air cleaner to prevent the entrance of dirt and dust into the engine. The element shall be accessible and removable without use of special tools and sha

23、ll not be adversely affected by solvents used for cleaning. 3.3.4 Lubrication. The power unit shall be lubricated by means of a gasoline-oil fuel mixture. The manufacturers recommended gasoline-oil mixture shall be plainly indicated on the saw. 3.3.5 Cranking system. Cranking shall be accomplished m

24、anually by means of an automatic rewind starter. The starter shall incorporate a positive means of engagement. Friction pawls, shoes, or wedges shall not be permitted. The starter shall withstand, without failure, slippage or starter rope breakage during all performance requirements stated herein. 3

25、.3.6 Exhaust system. The exhaust system shall be equipped with a spark-arresting muffler to reduce the exhaust noise and direct the exhaust gases away from the operator. The muffler shall be so located as not to constitute a hazard to the operator. The exhaust system shall meet the requirements of A

26、merican National Standard Institute (ANSI) B175.1, “Gasoline-Powered Chain Saws - Safety Requirements“. 3.3.7 Speed limitation. A governor shall be furnished if required to prevent damage by momentary maximum speed at no load. 3.4 Power-transmission housing. The power-transmission housing shall cont

27、ain the clutch, driving sprocket, and shall form the cutter guide bar head. 3.4.1 Clutch. The chain saw shall have the cutter chain sprocket directly driven from the engine crankshaft, through a centrifugal clutch. The clutch shall be of the self-energizing friction type. It shall transmit sufficien

28、t torque to enable the saw to meet all performance requirements specified herein. The chain drive sprocket shall be of an alloy steel and shall be heat treated to

29、 a hardness of not less than 54 Rockwell C, and shall withstand the performance testing as specified herein. Sprocket pitch shall match the pitch of the saw chain. The sprocket diameter shall be matched to the guide bar width to provide a smooth chain entry. 3.5 Guide bar. The guide bar shall be gro

30、oved and contoured to insure smooth chain travel. The grooves shall be centered throughout the bar length, funneled to permit smooth chain entry, and be of the correct width and depth for the cutter chain furnished. The bar rails shall be heat treated to a hardness of not less than 55 Rockwell C wit

31、h the remainder of the bar not less than 35 Rockwell C. When laminated bars are furnished, the laminations shall be secured by plug or spot welds, spaced not less than 1 inch on center around the bar rails and nose section and not greater than 1-1/2 inches in the remainder of the bar or by copper br

32、aze. Sprocket nose guide bars shall be furnished unless otherwise specified. The sprocket wheels shall be supported by antifriction bearings. The sprocket shall be thin enough to pass through the cut and shall be replaceable without the use of special tools. Bow guide bars or solid nose bars shall b

33、e furnished when specified by the procuring activity in the purchase order or contract (see 7.3(c). The nose shall have a built-up hard surfacing of 0.04-inch minimum thickness. 3.6 Chain-adjusting device. A chain-adjusting device shall be provided, to enable a positive extension of the guide bar fo

34、r maintaining correct chain tension. The lug shall positively engage the guide bar and shall not become disengaged under any condition of operation as specified herein. The adjusting device shall have sufficient travel to permit removal of the cutter chain from the guide bar without disassembly of t

35、he chain or removal of the guide bar. 3.7 Chain oiling system. The saw shall be provided with an automatic chain oiling system and an oil reservoir that shall have sufficient capacity for not less than 15 minutes of sawing operations. The filler-opening cap shall be a spill proof type, plainly marke

36、d to indicate chain oil, and be securable against oil loss. 3.8 Fuel tank. The fuel tank shall be corrosion free (treated on the inside to prevent corrosion). The tank shall have sufficient capacity to permit not less than 15 minutes continuous operation at maximum power. Construction and mounting o

37、f the fuel tank shall be such that neither vibration nor excessive tightening of the mounting provisions (when used) will cause leaks. The fuel tank shall have a leak proof vent to permit operation of the chain saw in all positions without leakage with the exception that some seepage is acceptable w

38、hen the saw is in the inverted position. The fill cap shall be secured against loss. 3.9 Enclosures. Enclosures with integral reservoirs of lubricant shall be equipped with a means for filling the enclosure with lubricant. Enclosures filled with lubricant shall not permit loss of lubricant with the

39、chain saws in any orientation. Accessibility to the filler shall be obtained without the removal or adjustment of parts or accessories. 3.10 Controls. The chain saw shall be equipped with a throttle control, choke control or engine primer, and an ignition switch. The throttle control shall be locate

40、d in the rear handle, and operable without the operator removing his hands from the saw handles, engine revolutions per minute (RPM) shall return to idle when throttle released. The choke control shall be clearly and permanently marked to indicate the choke position. The ignition switch shall be so

The “OFF“ position shall be clearly and permanently marked. 3.11 Cutter cha

42、in. The saw shall be equipped with a cutter chain of low kickback design that will meet the requirements of ANSI B175.1. Failure to meet the requirements of ANSI B175.1 shall constitute a failure to meet this performance requirement. The chain saw shall permit sharpening with a straight round file w

43、ithout removal from the guide bar. The cutter teeth, tie bars, and drive tangs shall be heat-treated to a hardness of not less than 49 Rockwell C. The cutter teeth shall have hard chromium plating conforming to Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) AMS-QQ-C-320, “Chromium Plating (Electrodeposited)“

44、, class 2, when specified by the procuring activity in the purchase order or contract (see 7.3(d). 3.12 Bumper spike. The saw shall have a tooth constructed device (bumper spike) that extends below the lower edge of the cutting chain and affords a no slip grip against the log. 3.13 Handles, hand gua

45、rds, and chain brake. The saw shall be equipped with anti-vibration handles, hand guards, and a chain brake that meet the requirements of ANSI B175.1. Failure to meet the requirements of ANSI B175.1 shall constitute a failure to meet this performance requirement. The shock absorbers in the anti-vibr

46、ation handles shall be replaceable. 3.14 Safety. Guards, switches, controls and other appropriate protection shall be provided for the operator in accordance with all applicable Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration Standards. 3.15 Noise limits. The noise limit produced by the chain

47、saw while under full operating load and other appropriate protection provided to the operator shall conform to all applicable Federal Occupational Safety and Health Standards. Provisions of MIL-STD-1474, “Noise Limits“, shall be provided as requirements for the protection of the operator when specif

48、ied by the procuring activity in the purchase order or contract (see 7.3(e). 3.16 Ease of maintenance. All major assemblies and installed attachments shall be accessible for maintenance, repair, and replacement. 3.17 Identification marking. The saw shall be legibly and durably marked. Military ident

49、ification markings shall comply with MIL-STD-130, “Identification Marking of U.S. Military Property“, when specified by the procuring activity in the purchase order or contract (see 7.3(f). 3.18 Treatment and painting. The chain saw, components, and accessories shall be cleaned, treated for preservation, and painted in accordance with the suppliers best standard practice in support of all requirements herein. 3.19 Operating, maintenance, and safety instructions.
