1、 INCH-POUND A-A-59864 26 April, 2010 COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION SNOWSHOE, ASSAULT The General Service Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description for all Federal Agencies. 1. SCOPE: This commercial item description covers a compact, lightweight, modular snowshoe that c

2、an be adapted to be used in deep and/or packed snow. 2. CLASSIFICATION: The Assault Snowshoe shall be furnished in one type and size. 3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS: The Assault Snowshoe is intended to provide floatation for personnel engaged in combat operations in snow covered flat and mountainous ter

3、rain in order to enhance their mobility. The snowshoe shall be of a solid platform design to provide maximum floatation while minimizing weight. The snowshoe shall have at least one removable tail piece that provides more floatation for deep snow when attached to the base snowshoe and reduces weight

4、 for use in packed/shallow snow. The base shall have a hole that allows the toe of the boot/binding system to pass through to enable efficient use. The snowshoe shall include the largest available tail piece while other sizes shall be available to allow users to tailor individual snowshoes for varyi

5、ng weights and snow depths. 3.1 Binding. The snowshoe shall have a one-size fits all binding system that accommodates all issued boots, sizes 4 through 14 in four widths, narrow, regular, wide and extra wide. The binding system shall allow the toe of the boot/binding system to articulate through the

6、 hole in the base of the snowshoe. 3.1.2 Traction System. Under the ball of the foot, attached to the articulating binding, shall be an aggressive crampon that provides significant traction on hard packed snow. The base shall also have a less aggressive traction bar that runs along the length of the

7、 snowshoe base on both sides to provide proper tracking and traction when moving perpendicular to steep terrain. The base snowshoe shall include a heel elevation system that allows simple engagement/disengagement of a device that will

10、raise the heel 1-2 inches to ease the strain on the back of the lower leg. 3.2 Physical requirements 3.2.1 Weight. The weight of the Assault Snowshoe with included tail shall weigh no more than 5 .5 pounds. 3.2.2 Length. The length of the snowshoe, with its included removable tail attached, shall no

11、t exceed 30 inches 1 inch. 3.2.3 Width. The width of the snowshoe shall not exceed 8.5 inches .25 inches. 3.2.4 Operation instructions. The binding system and heel elevation system shall be easily operated while wearing all types of cold weather gloves. 3.3 Color. The Assault Snowshoe shall be provi

12、ded in a low reflectance, matte finish and provide low contrast with typical use terrain unless otherwise specified in the solicitation or contract order. Contrasting markings or commercial logos must be avoided. (See 7.2) 3.4 Materials. Materials used in the construction of the snowshoe shall be ca

13、pable of withstanding temperatures down to at least -25F. 3.5. End item testing. The Assault Snowshoe shall meet all the physical and design requirements of this description. 3.6 Workmanship. The finished Assault Snowshoe shall conform to the quality of product established by this document. The occu

14、rrence of defects shall not exceed the contractors own quality assurance standards and the quality assurance standards defined in the technical data in the solicitation and/or contract. 3.7 Service Life. The Snowshoe shall have no unexpected material or component failures during a continuous one-yea

15、r cycle. The Snowshoe shall have no unexpected material or component failures during periodic use over a five year period. Unless otherwise specified in the contract, the manufacturers standard commercial warranty shall apply. 3.8 Labels/bar coding/instruction slip. If applicable, all labeling, bar

16、coding and instruction slip requirements shall be as specified in the solicitation or contract (see 7.2). 4. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regu

Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials should be used to the maximum extent possible, pr

18、ovided that the material meets or exceeds the operational and maintenance requirements and promotes economically advantageous life cycle costs. 5. PRODUCT CONFORMANCE PROVISIONS. 5.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this commercial item description

19、, conform to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and be the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance. 5.2 Visual examination. The Assault Snowshoe shall be e

20、xamined for the following defects as listed in Table I. TABLE I.
