3、 and existing designs and acquisitions. This specification is approved for use by all departments and agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification covers one type of general purpose distiller scale preventive treatment formulation. 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS 2.1 General

In the event of a conflict between the text of this document and the references cited herein, the text of this document takes precedence. Nothing in this document, however, supersede

20、s applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Qualification. The distiller scale preventive treatment formulation furnished under this specification shall be products that are authorized by the qualifying activity for listing on the applicable q

21、ualified products list before contract award (see 4.2, 4.3, and 6.3). 3.2 Material. The distiller scale preventive treatment formulation shall be in aqueous medium and shall contain organic polyelectrolytes such as polyacrylates, and an anti-foam agent that shall conform to the requirements specifie

22、d herein. 3.2.1 Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials. Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials should be used to the maximum extent possible provided that the material meets or exceeds the operational and maintenance requirements and promotes economically

23、advantageous life cycle costs. 3.2.2 Unit content. The unit content shall be at least 6.0 gallons (or metric equivalent) of liquid at 77 F (25 C) as specified in 4.4.2. 3.2.3 Maintenance of heat transfer coefficient. Using the recommended dosage of 10.5 0.2 milligram per liter (mg/L) the distiller s

24、cale preventive formulation in the feed water at the heat transfer coefficient shall be maintained at no less than 75 percent of the “clean tube value“ throughout the 80-hour test period when tested in accordance with 4.5.1. 3.2.4 Ease of scale removal. Scale formed on heat transfer surfaces, while

25、using the distiller scale preventive treatment formulation, shall be greater than 99.0 percent removed by one acid cleaning using the procedure given in 4.5.1.2. 3.2.5 Appearance. The distiller scale preventive treatment formulation shall be a clear liquid with no phase separation and shall form a h

26、omogeneous emulsion that is stable for 30 minutes when examined by the procedure given in 4.5.2. 3.2.6 Toxicity. The distiller scale preventive treatment formulation shall not contain toxic materials in concentrations that would constitute a health hazard. The formulation shall be safe to use for pr

The distiller scale preventive treatment formulation shall not corrode 90-10 copper-nickel (Cu-Ni), a distiller h

28、eat transfer metal, at a rate greater than 2.54 X 10-2millimeters per year (mm/yr) (1 (mil/yr) when 90-10 Cu-Ni metal is immersed in a 100 milligram per liter (mg/L) concentration of distiller scale preventive treatment formulation in distiller water. The corrosion rate shall not be exceeded when te

29、sted in accordance with 4.5.4. 3.2.7.1 General corrosion. The distiller scale preventive treatment shall not corrode 90-10 Cu-Ni, 70-30 Cu-Ni, copper, valve bronze, phosphor bronze, gun metal or K-Monel at a rate greater than 0.10 mm/yr (4.0 mil/yr) when specimens of these metals are immersed in 100

30、 mg/L concentration of distiller scale preventive treatment formulation in distilled water and tested in accordance with 4.5.4.1. 3.2.7.2 High temperature corrosion. Corrosion rates in excess of 0.04 mm/yr (1.5 mil/yr) for carbon steel, HY-80 steel, type 347/348 corrosion resistant steel (CRES), or

31、Inconel Alloy 600; pitting in excess of 0.08 mm (3.0 mil) on alloy 600 and type 347/348 steel and stress corrosion cracking on stressed C-rings of Inconel Alloy 600 and 347 CRES shall not occur when tested in accordance with 4.5.4.2. 3.2.8 Compatibility with other treatment formulations. The distill

32、er scale preventive treatment formulation shall be compatible with formulations qualified under this specification. Compatibility is the absence of a precipitate when the distiller candidate treatment formulation is mixed in the concentration recommended for use in the distiller chemical addition ta

33、nk with each formulation. The testing procedure for the requirement is given in 4.5.5. 3.2.9 Homogeneity of an aqueous formulation solution. The distiller scale preventive treatment formulations shall form a stable homogeneous aqueous solution. A stable, homogeneous solution is one that does not for

34、m a phase separation after standing for 24 hours at 77 F 3.6 F (25 C 2 C) when tested in accordance with 4.5.6. 3.3 Chemical properties. 3.3.1 Ammonia content. The ammonia content of the scale preventive treatment shall not exceed 110 mg/L when analyzed in accordance with 4.6.1. 3.3.2 Hydrogen ion c

35、oncentration (pH). The pH value for qualification as measured at 77 F 1.8 F (25 C 1 C) shall be not less than 6.5 or not more than 10.5 when tested in accordance with 4.6.2. The pH of subsequent production lot samples shall vary not more than 0.8 pH unit from the value obtained for the qualification

36、 sample. 3.3.3 Iron content. The iron content of the scale preventive treatment shall not exceed 10 mg/L in accordance with 4.6.3. 3.3.4 Polyelectrolyte content. The scale preventive treatment shall contain at least 14.0 percent by weight of the polyelectrolyte chemical when tested in accordance wit

37、h 4.6.4. The polyelectrolyte concentration shall not vary more than 0.55 weight percent from the value obtained for qualification testing. 38、tion. The distiller treatment formulation shall control foaming to prevent brine carry-over into the distillate. Anti-foaming action shall meet the test requirements of 4.7.1. 3.4.2 Specific gravity. The density of the liquid shall not vary more than 0.01 grams per milliliter (g/mL) from the value o

39、btained on qualification scale preventive treatment. Specific gravity test shall be in accordance with 4.7.2. 3.4.3 Intrinsic viscosity. The intrinsic viscosity shall be determined at 77 F 0.2 F (25.0 C 0.1 C) by the dilution method using a Cannon-Ubbelohde viscosimeter. The intrinsic viscosity shal

40、l be in accordance with 4.7.3. The intrinsic viscosity of subsequent lots shall not vary more than 0.004 liter per gram (L/g) from the value obtained when the distiller scale preventive treatment is determined for the qualification sample. 4. VERIFICATION 4.1 Classification of inspections. The inspe

41、ction of the distiller scale preventive treatment formulation shall be classified as follows: a. Qualification inspection (see 4.2). b. Conformance inspection (see 4.4). 4.2 Qualification inspection. Qualification inspection shall consist of the examinations and tests shown in table I. 4.2.1 Sample

46、facturer must be able to demonstrate that the company still has the capabilities and facilities necessary to produce the QPL items in accordance with this specification and the provisions governing qualification specified in SD-6. 4.4 Conformance inspection. Conformance inspection shall consist of t

47、he applicable examinations and tests of table I. 4.4.1 Sampling for conformance inspection. 4.4.1.1 Inspection lot. For purposes of sampling, a lot shall consist of all material manufactured as one batch and transferred from one mixing tank to the shipping container. 4.4.1.2 Sampling for examination

48、 of filled containers. A random sample of filled containers shall be selected in accordance with MIL-STD-1916 at verification level I. Verify compliance with all requirements regarding fill, closure, marking, and other requirements not requiring tests as specified in 4.4.2. 4.4.1.3 Sampling for test

49、s. Three one-liter containers shall be filled with the distiller scale preventive formulation that shall be withdrawn from an agitated mixing tank prior to packing each lot. The samples shall be contained in plastic bottles such as polyethylene or other plastic containers that do not react with the chemicals of the distiller scale preventive treatment.
