SCOPE. 1.1 Scope. This specification covers li

13、ulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First article. When specified (see 6.2), a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection in accordance with 4.3. 3.2 Guide samples Samples, when furnished, are solely for guidance and information to the contractor (s
14、ee 6.4). Variation from this specification mayappear in the sample, in which case this specification shall govern. 3.3 Materials. It is encouraged that recycled material be used when practical as long as it meets the requirements of this specification. 3.3.1 Batting. The quilted polyester batting sh
15、all conform to type VIII, cover C (for class 1) or cover E (for class 2), style a, class 6 of MIL-B-4 1826 except that the outer covering for batting intended for liners madeaccording to figure 1 may be full width, or may be joined with asingle seam (before quilting) as specified in 3.3.1.1 to achie
16、ve the full width or length required for liners. The bonded batting intended for liners made according to figure 1 shall be full width and length and butting or lapping is not permitted in either direction. 3.3.1.1 Seaming of cover material (for liners made according to figure 1) The nylon rip-stop
17、material shall be joined before quilting, usingeam type Ssa-1 and stitch type 301 conforming to ASTM-D-6193. The seam allowance shall be not less than 1/2 inch and the number of stitches shall be 10 to 12 per inch. The thread for seaming of cover material shall be nylon, typd. class A or B, size B o
18、f V-T-295. The thread shall be dyed Camouflage Green 483 (for class 1) or Khaki P-1, C.A. 66019 (for class 2) and shall show fastness to laundering as specified for nylon thread in MIL-B-4 1826. 3.3.2 Binding The cloth used for binding all sides of the liner shall be 3 ounce nylon oxford cloth dyed

The tie la
20、ces shall be spun nylon laces 18 *1/2 inches in length, conforming to type 1, class 1 of V-L-61, except that the ends shall be fused or impregnated with cellulose acetate or cellulose acetate butyrate. The color of the laces shall be a good match to the ground shade of the base material. 3.3.4 Threa
21、d, polyester. The thread for seaming. stitching, and bartacking shall conform to type I or II, class 1, sub-class A, size B of V-T-285. The thread shall be a good match to the ground shade of the base material. When no standard sample is available, the dyed thread shall show it cannot be opened quic
22、kly. 4. Poncho and liner combination can be used as a wrap-around sleeping bag or as a blanket. 5. The liner, without the poncho, can be used as a blanket when sleeping under cover or in a jungle hammock. 6. Keep liner away from open fire and sparks.DO NOT SMOKE in bed when using liner as a blanket
23、or sleeping bag. 7. When necessary, liner can be hand laundered. Use a mild soap andlukewarm water. Each item shall be indiv
24、idually bar coded with a type VIII, class 17, labelhag of DDD-L-20. The labelhag shall be located so that it is completely visible on the item when it is folded or packaged as specified and shall cause no damage to the item. 3.4 Design. The liners conforming to figure 1 shall consist of non-lapped a
25、nd non-butted batting with an outer covering that is either full width (non-seamed) or with an outer covering that is seamed before quilting (see 3.3.1). The liners conforming to the alternate constructions of figures 2 and 3 shall consist of two panels of quilted batting seamed through the center o
26、n either the lengthwise or widthwise direction. One panel may contain two pieces with the seam constructed the same as the center seam and running perpendicular or parallel to the center seam. The maximum number of liners that may be pieced shall not exceed 5 percent (see 4.4.3). All liners shall be
27、 bound on all edges and shall be equipped with eight tie laces for attaching to a poncho. Except for liners made according to figure 1 (see 3.3.1) neither ply of the camouflage material shall be pieced individually. 3.5 Construction. The construction shall conform in all respects to requirements spe
28、cified in table II and herein. 3.5.1 Stitches seams and stitching All stitches, seams and stitching shall conform to ASTM-D- 6 193. The type of seam, stitching and stitches per inch shall be as specified in table II. Seam allowance, shall be maintained with seams sewn so that no raw edges, run-Offs,
29、 pleats, puckers or open seams occur. When two or more methods of seams or stitches are given for the same operation, any one may be used. The height of overedge stitching shall be 3/16 to 114 inch. Unless otherwise specified, edge stitching shall be 114 to 5/16 inches from edge. 3.5.1.1 Tme 301 sti
30、tching Ends of all stitching shall be backstitched or overstitched not less than 1 inch except where ends are turned under or caught in other seams or stitching. Thread tensions shall be maintained so that there will be no loose stitching resulting in loose bobbin or top thread or excessively tight
31、stitching resulting in puckering of the materials sewn. The lock shall be embedded in the materials sewn. 3.5.1.1.1 Repairs of type 30 1. stitching Repairs of type 30 1 stitching shall be as follows: a. When thread breaks or bobbin run-outs occur during stitching, the stitching shall be repaired by
32、restarting the stitching a minimum of 1 inch back of the end of the stitching. 1/ b. Thread breaks or two or more consecutive skipped or run-off stitches noted during end item inspection shall be repaired by overstitching. The stitching shall start a minimum of 1 inch in back of the defective area,
33、continue a minimum of 1 inch beyond the defective area onto the existing stitching. Thread tension shall be maintained so that there will be no loose or excessively tight stitching. All repai
35、rs shall be in accordance with 3.5.1.1 .l, a and b. 3.5.1.3 Bartacking. Bartacks shall be 1/2 f 1/16 inch long and 1/8* 1/32 inch wide and shall contain 28 stitches. Bartacks shall be free from thread breaks or loose stitching. 3.5.2 Manufacturing operations requirements The poncho liner shall be ma
36、de in accordance with all operations listed in table I. The contractor is not required to follow the exact sequence of operations. Care shall be exercised during the spreading, cutting and manufacturing operations to assure that material defects and damages, are classified in 4.4.3, are excluded and replaced with non-defective and properly matched material. Join panels (applicable only to figures 2 an

The two panels shall be seamed at the center in one direction, with a lapped, double stitched seam, 1 f 1 / 16 inch gauge, with the stitching 1/8 to 3/16 inch from the turned edge. - or- As an alternate, a modified seam with butted ends may be used. Before the seam is formed, the ends shall be
41、 over-edged. The butted ends shall not be more than 1/8 inch away from each other. Bind edges: a. Bind all edges of liner with bias cut nylon Oxford. 44、per liner. Note: The beginning and end of the binding shall be considered one splice and shall be stitched across the entire width of the binding. Tie laces. a. Eight tie laces shall be positioned on the Binding with one located in each corner and one on each side equidistant from the corners and 1/

The combination identification- instruction label shall be positioned on the top side of the liner in the corner indicated on figure 1,2, or 3 and stitched on all four sides not more than 3/16 inch from edges of label. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements (examina
