Page 1 METHOD 14 PANEL SEAL TEST (From EIA Standards Proposal No. 1775,- formulated under the cognizance of EIA P-9 Committee on Test Methods and Procedures and the EIA P-5.9 Working Group on Non-Sensitive Pushbutton and Keyboard Switches.) INTRODUCTION This test method forms a part of the l
、atest revision of EIA Recommended Standard EIA/RS-186, which contains test guidance, definitions and standard test conditions. 1.0 2*0 3.0 PURPOSE This test is intended to determine the effectiveness of panel seals on electronic components which are intended for mounting through holes in panels or e
、nclosures. The panel seals are exposed to water under pressure and observed for leakage. APPARATUS 2.1 The test chamber shall have a component mounting hole cut out as specified by the component Detail Specification, shall be sealed sufficiently to withstand the specified test pressures without leak
、age, and shall be capable of applying, regulating, maintaining and measuring the required pressure. Unless otherwise specified, tap water shall be used. Figure 1 is a diagrammatic representation of a suitable chamber, it is not meant to limit the design which is left to the discretion of the test la
、boratory. PROCEDURE 3.1 Mounting Prior to mounting the component, all gaskets which can normally be replaced in service without disassembly of the component proper, shall be disassembled from the component and then reassembled to it. The component shall be mounted through the wall of the test chambe
、r, as indicated in Figure 1, using its normal mounting means. . EIA L8b-L4E 85 m 3234b00 0028580 8 m ETA- 1.8 6- 14E Page 2 3.2 Initial Measurements Any measurements to be made prior to test shall be in accordance with the component Detail Specification. 3.3 Applied Pressure Unless otherwise specifi
、ed, an air presssure difference, as specified below, shall be applied across each seal or simultaneously across a group of seals being tested. 10 t 0.5kPa (1.5 psi) 44.5 - .5ka (6.5 psi) 105 + 5kPa (15 psi) 350 f: 10ka (50 psi) The test shall be made while the component is in the static (unoperating
、) condition unless otherwise specified in the component Detail specification. 3.4 With the component mounted in the chamber, the chamber shall be filled with water to a level of 152.4 + 50.-8 mm (6 - + 2 inches) above the component (see Figure-1). The internal chamber pressure shall then be graduall
、y increased at an approximate rate of 7kPa (gage) per minute (one pound per square inch gage per minute) until the specified test pressure is attained. The specified test pressure shall be maintained for 30 minutes. During this 30 minute period, components with dynamic seals shall be actuated for 25
、 cycles of operation and all components shall be observed for evidence of water leakage. An opening in the body of enclosed components shall be made to observe whether leakage has occurred inside the components. 3.5 Final Measurements Neasurements after the seal test shall b made as specified in the
、 component Detail Specification. 4.0 SUMMARY The following details shall be specified in the individual component speciication: I EIA Lb-34E 5 W 3234600 0028583 T W EIA-18 6- 14.
