22、formulated for the purpose of: 1. Promoting uniformity of Local Area Network cable constructions. 2. Eliminating misunderstandings or confusion between manufacturers and buyers with respect to product performance requirements. iii - ELA IS-43 7 3234b00 0002373 5 W 1.0 SECTION ONE - SCOPE This Omnibu

23、s Specification relates to Local Area Network histed Pair Cable constructed of insulated copper conductor pairs in a single PVC or fluorocarbon jacket. The cable is intended for use with local area networks such as token ring networks and other systems employing similar technology as a total buildin

24、g wiring system. The purpose of this standard is to: 1. Establish uniform requirements and test methods for characterizing geometric, mechanical, environmental, and transmission properties of Local Area Network Cable. 2. Prescribe preferred ratings and characteristics and to select from this standar

25、d the appropriate test and measurement methods to provide a fixed sample Component Qualification Approval test schedule. Units of Product - The entity

34、 inspected in order to determine its classification as defective or nondefective or to count the number of defects. It may be a single article, a pair, a set, a length, an area, an operation, a volume, a component of an end product, or the end product itself. The product may or may not be the same a

35、s the unit of purchase, supply, or shipment. Lot - The term lot shall mean “inspection lot,“ i.e., a collection of units of product from which a sample is to be drawn and inspected to determine conformance with the acceptable criteria, and may differ from a collection of units designated as a lot fo

36、r other purposes (e.g., production, shipment, etc.). Acceptance Sampling - The process of evaluating a portion of the product in a lot for the purpose of accepting or rejecting the entire lot as conforming or not conforming to a quality specification. When applied consistently to a series of lots, a

37、cceptance sampling will control the risk of accepting lots of a given quality. AOQL - Average Outgoing Quality Limit. The worst percent defective outgoing material expected when using a given sampling plan. AQL - Acceptable Quality Level. The worst percent defective material that is still considered

38、 satisfactory as a process average for the purposes of acceptance sampling. Defect - A condition in which a product, material, or service does not conform to requirements. Failure - A condition in which a product, material, or service does not perform its intended function. Quality - The extent to w

39、hich a product, material, or service conforms to requrements. Fitness for use. When more severe requirements are included, they shall be listed in the Detail Specification and indicated in the test schedule, for example, by an asterisk. Note: The information given below may for conveni

42、ence, be presented in * tabular form. 2.4.1 ILLUSTRATIONS AND DIMENSIONS There may.be an illustration of the Local Area Network Cable as an aide to easy recognition and for comparison with other cables. All dimensions shall preferably be stated in millimeters (mm); however, in case the original dime

43、nsions are given in inches, the converted metric dimensions in mm shall be added. 2.5 MARKING 2.5.1 JACKET Each Local Area Network Cable shall be permanently and legibly identified (61 cm max interval) with the information specified in paragraph 2,s. 1.1 by means of surface printing on the outer jac

44、ket or on label tape. under transparent jackets. When appropriate, each cable shall be marked as required by Paragraph 2.5.1.2. 45、king processes include the use of marking materials such as inks or paints, these materials shall contrast with the body color of the part to ensure legibility,. 48、alth, safety, EMI and local regulations and rules relative to the manufacture and use of cable made in conformity with this Specification. This Omnibus Specification hereafter assumes that manufacture, testing, installation, and maintenance of cable defined by this Specification will be performed on

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS All indoor copper cables covered by this specification, both plenum and non-plenum, must be U.L. listed“ to comply with requirements in NEC for the intended use. Further information as to the particular listing required shall be given in the Detail Specification. Cable must be U.L. rated for temperatures of 75 deg. C or greater.
