The Committee made major contributions to ISOAEC/JTCl/SC23 for the development of 130 mm WORM Optical Disk Cartridges USOIIEC 9171) and of 130 mm Rewritable Optical Disk Cartridges using the Magneto-Optical effect. (ISOIIEC 10089). ECMA produced the camera-ready cop
5、ies for these International Standards. In addition, ECMA published the following Standards: ECMA-130 ECMA-154 The former has been adopted by ISOAEC as International Standard ISOIIEC 10149. ECMA-154 has been adopted as International Standard ISOAEC 10090. Whilst the optical disk cartridge according t
6、o Standard ECMA-154 contains a disk, which can be either fully pre-recorded, i.e. the data are embossed in the disk, or fully rewritable or may contain zones of either type, the present Standard ECMA-153 specifies an optical disk cartridge of a larger dimension (1 30 mm instead of 90 mm) which, like
7、 that of ISOIIEC 9171, is of the write-once-read-multiple type (WORM). The disk used for this purpose is that specified in ISOAEC 10089 which is different from that specified in ISOAEC 9171. 31、nge. 4.2 Clamping zone The annular part of the disk within which the clamping force is applied by the clamping device. 43 Control track A track containing the information on media parameters and format necessary for writing, reading and erasing the remaining tracks on the optical disk. 4.4 Cyclic Re

Hub The central feature on the disk which interacts with the spindle of the disk drive to provide radial centring and the clamping force. interleaving The process of allocating the physical
35、 sequence of units of data so as to render the data more immune to burst errors. Kerr rotation The rotation of the plane of polaxization of an optical beam upon reflection from the recording layer as caused by the magneto-optical Kerr effect. Land and groove A trench-like feature of the disk, applie
36、d before the recording of any information, and used to define the track location. The groove is located nearer to the entrance surface than the land with which it is paired to form a track. Mark A feature of the recording layer which may take the form of a magnetic domain, a pit, or any other type o
37、r form that can be sensed by the optical system. The pattern of marks represents the data on the disk. NOTE 1 Subdivisions of a sector which are named mark are not marks in the sense of this definition. Optical disk A disk that will accept and retain information in the form of marks in a recording l
38、ayer, that can be read with an optical beam. Opticai disk cartridge (ODC) A device consisting of a case containing an optical disk. Polarization The direction of polarization of an optical beam is the direction of the electric vector of the beam. NOTE 2 The plane of polarization is the plane contain
39、ing the electric vector and the direction of propagation of the beam. The polarization is right-handed when to an observer looking in the direction of propagation of the beam the end- point of the electric vector would appear to describe an ellipse in the clockwise sense. Pre-recorded mark A mark so
40、 formed as to be unalterable by magneto-optical means. Read power The read power is the optical power, incident at the entrance surface of the disk, used when reading. NOTE 3 It is specified as a muximum power that may be used without damage to the written data. tower power may be used providing tha

Reed-Solomon code An error detection andor correction code which is particularly suited to the correction of errors whi

43、 optical beam accesses the recording layer. 4.24 Track The path which is followed by the focus of the optical beam during one revolution of the disk. 4.25 Track pitch The distance between adjacent track centrelines, measured in a radial direction. 4.26 Write-inhibit hole A hole in the case which, wh
44、en detected by the drive to be open, inhibits both write and erase operations. 4.27 Write once optical disk An optical disk in which the data in specified areas can be written only once and read many times by an optical beam. 5 Conventions and notations 5.1 Representation of numbers a) In each field
45、 the information is recorded so that the most significant byte (byte O) is recorded first. Within each byte the least significant bit is numbered bit O, the most significant bit (i.e. bit 7 in an 8-bit byte) is recorded first. This order of recording applies also to the data input of the error-corre
46、cting codes, to the cyclic redundancy code, and to their code output. Unless otherwise stated, numbers are expressed in binary notation.
