11、page left blank) EIA-364-63 Page 1 TEST PROCEDURE No. 63 ACCESSORY THREAD STRENGTH TEST PROCEDURE FOR CIRCULAR ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS (From EIA Standards Proposal No. 5239, formulated under the cognizance EIA CE-2.0 Committee on National Connector and Socket Standards. 1 Introduction 1.1 Scope This t

12、est procedure establishes a test method to determine whether accessory thread strength and portion of the connector that accepts cable clamps and “J” adaptors shall be capable of withstanding torque requirements specified in the referencing document. 1.2 Definition 1.2.1 Scoop-proof Scoop-proof mean

13、s that because of the connector long shell design, it is impossible for the mating plug connector to inadvertently be cocked into the mating receptacle and damage the pins or electrically short the contacts. 2 Test resources 2.1 Equipment 2.1.1 The mated connector shall be mounted as in normal servi

14、ce to a rigid panel. 2.1.2 Torque wrench. 3 Test specimen 3.1 Description Unless otherwise specified in the referencing document, the test specimen shall consist of a plug and receptacle connector with all applicable contacts inserted in place. EIA-364-63 Page 2 3.1.1 Connector series The following

15、series I, II, III, and IV connectors are not interchangeable or intermateable: I scoop-proof, bayonet coupling; II non-scoop-proof, bayonet coupling, low silhouette; III scoop-proof, triple start, self-locking, threaded coupling; IV scoop-proof, breech coupling. 3.2 Preparation Unless otherwise spec

16、ified in the referencing document, the test specimen rear accessory threads of all connectors and receptacle coupling areas shall not be lubricated. 4 Test procedure 4.1 Load application 4.1.1 The torque wrench shall be attached as shown on figure 1. After mating the plug and receptacle connectors,

17、a torque shall be applied to the accessory end of the plug at a rate of approximately 1.1 newton-meters (10 inch-pounds) per second until the required torque is achieved. The applied load shall be held for 1 minute, and then the load shall be released. The test shall then be repeated on the accessor

18、y end of the receptacle. 19、amage or breakage. 4.2.2 When tested as specified in 4.1.1, the accessory threads and portion of the connector that accepts cable clamps and “J“ adapters shall be capable of withstanding the torque value specified in the referencing document. 4.2.3 If any of these cited rejection criteria are observ

20、ed, do not proceed until problems have been corrected. 5 Details to be specified The following details shall be specified in the referencing document: 5.1 Part numbers 5.2 Pass/fail criteria 5.3 If applicable, connector assemblies to be included. 6 Documentation Documentation shall contain the detai
