17、 rubber to the action of liquids by measurement of selected properties of the materials before and after immersion in selected liquids. The methods described in this European Standard concern the following determinations a) Method 1 : Change of physical properties after immersion in test liquids b)

18、Method 2 : Change of physical properties after exposure and evaporation of volatile test liquids. 2 Normative references This European Standard incorporates by dated or undated reference, provisions from other publications. For dated references, subsequent amendments to or revisions of any of these publications apply to this European Standard only when incorporated in it by amendment or revision. For undated references the latest edition of the publication referred to applies (

21、0 2286-1: 1998) 3 Principle This European Standard provides a procedure for exposing test specimens to the influence of liquids under defined conditions of temperature and time. Selected properties are determined according to the relevant European or International Standards. Test specimens are then

22、immersed in selected liquid(s) and the properties determined again. The percentage change or the values before and after immersion are measures of the resistance of the material to the selected liquid(s). 4 Test liquids for methods 1 and 2 As commercial liquids may not have an entirely constant comp

23、osition, a standard immersion liquid consisting of well-defined chemical compounds or mixture of compounds shall be used. Some suitable liquids are recommended in annex A (informative). When a commercial liquid is used, the test report shall mention all the available information about its origin, co

24、mposition, properties, e.g. viscosity, aniline point, etc., and batch number. 3 EN 12759:2001 (E) NOTE For test purpose, it is usually desirable to use the liquid(s) with which the coated fabric will come into contact during use. When testing to determine the effect of chemical solutions, the concen

25、tration of the solutions should be appropriate to the proposed application. WARNING Appropriate safety precautions should be taken when preparing and handling test liquids, especially those known to be toxic, corrosive or flammable. Products giving off fumes should be handled only under an efficient

26、ly ventilated hood, corrosive products should not be allowed to come into contact with the skin or ordinary clothing, and flammable products should be kept away from any source of ignition. In addition, attention is drawn to the possible damaging of test equipment (eg clamps or jaws) when using corr

27、osive test liquids. 5 Test conditions for methods 1 and 2 5.1 Temperature Use a test temperature approximating those found during use. Maintain the test temperature (T) at Tf 2 OC. Unless otherwise specified or agreed upon, test temperature (T) should be one of the standard temperatures given in ann

28、ex B. 5.2 Immersion period The following immersion periods are recommended : 22 h k 0,25 h ; 46 h f 0,25 h ; 72 h f 2 h ; 168 h f 2 h ; multiples of 7 days f 2 h. NOTE When testing for changes in physical properties, it is advisable to use such a period of immersion that equilibrium is allowed to be

29、 reached. To define this equilibrium, it is recommended to carry out preliminary measurements with several periods of immersion, recording the results as a function of time. Whenever practicable, the total immersion period should be chosen to extend far beyond the point of maximum variation. 5.3 Lig

30、ht Immersion tests shall be conducted in the absence of direct light. 5.4 Time lapse between manufacturing and testing The minimum time lapse between manufacturing and testing shall be 16 h. 4 EN 12759:ZOOl (E) 6 Conditioning atmosphere for methods 1 and 2 Test specimens shall be conditioned before

31、immersion in one of the atmospheres in accordance with EN IS0 223 1, unless otherwise specified in the standard relevant to the property to be tested. 7 Apparatus for methods 1 and 2 The apparatus to be used is determined by the temperature of immersion, the volatility of the test liquid and the num

32、ber and dimensions of the test specimens required for testing the selected property. At temperatures appreciably below the boiling point of the test liquid, use a stoppered vessel e.g glass bottle, tube, of such dimensions that the test specimens remain completely immersed in the specified volume of

33、 test liquid and are freely exposed on all surfaces without restraint. At temperatures near the boiling point of the test liquid, fit the vessel with a reflux condenser or other suitable means of minimising evaporation of the test liquid, instead of the stopper. 8 Method 1 - Change of physical prope

Maintain the test liquid at the test temperature (r) during all the exposure period, within a tolerance off 2 OC. 5 EN 12759:ZOOl (E) 8.3.2 Prepa

38、ration before testing At the end of the immersion period, bring the test specimens, if necessary, to the standard testing temperature, preferably by quickly transferring them to a fresh portion of test liquid at this temperature for a period of 5 min to 10 min. Remove the surplus test liquid from th

When volatile, mobile liquids like iso-octane and toluene are used, remove quickly and wipe the test specimen with filter paper or a piece of textile which does not deposit lint. Some d

40、ifficulty may be experienced in completely removing viscous, non-volatile liquids by this method and it may be necessary to dip the test specimen quickly in a suitable volatile liquid such as methanol and again wipe the test specimen with filter paper or a piece of textile which does not deposit lin

Note whether any change occurred or not and describe the eventual changes observed. 8.3.3 Testing Test immediately after removal of the surplus liquid. Measure the selected physical property in accordan

Measure the selected physical property in accordance with the appropriate standard. 9.4 Expres

Liquids B, C, and D will afford a reasonable simulation of the effect on rubbers and plastics of the majority of motor gasolines currently available. The latter vary widely in composition, even within the same grade (Le. knock-rating) and within the same location, and the use of all three liquids is necessary to cover this range of composition. Liquid F is intended to simulate diesel fuel, domestic heating oils and similar li
