19、therlands,Norway,Portugal,Spain, Sweden,SwitzerlandandtheUnitedKingdom.EN135954:2002(E) 4 Introduction Theonlyprotectionamotorcyclistinvolvedinaroadtrafficaccidenthasagainstinjuryistheclothingheorsheis wearingatthetime.Motorcyclistsclothingisgenerallywornasanextensionofnormalclothing,providing prote

20、ctionagainstambientconditionsofwind,waterandcold,butitshouldalsoprovidesomeprotectionfrominjury intheeventofanaccident.Itisintendednottohinderariderfromcontrollinghismachine.Itshouldbeofan acceptableappearancetothewearer. ThisEuropeanStandardisprimarilyconcernedwiththeprotectionprovidedbyclothingaga

21、instinjuryinaccidents. Thehazardstowhichmotorcyclistsareexposedvarywidelydependingonthephysicalenvironmentsuchasthe natureoftheroadtrackormountainside,theclimaticenvironment,thetrafficenvironment,thespeedatwhichthe motorcycleisbeingriddenandtheskilloftherider.Thenumberofcombinationsofpossiblehazards

22、isverylarge. Totalclothingperformanceagainsteveryidentifiedhazardcouldberequiredforeachcombination.Thiswouldbe impracticablycomplicated.Thereforethisstandardcontainstherequirementsforsinglecharacteristicsofsingle itemsofclothingorsimplecombinationsofgarments. Thisstandardispartofaseriesofstandardssp

23、ecifyingrequirementsforparticularitemsofclothingorparticular hazards.FurtherPartswillbeissuedinduecourse. 1Scope ThisEuropeanStandardspecifiesperformancerequirementsforclothingmaterialsandassemblymethodology utilisedinthemanufactureofprofessionalmotorcycleridersjackets,trousersandonepieceanddivideds

28、wnsupport. 4 Determinationofimpactcutresistance 4.1Principle Atestspecimenismountedoverarectangularholesothatitisunderapredefinedtension.Animpactstrikerof fixedmass,withasharpbladefittedtoitslowersurface,isdroppedverticallyfromapredeterminedheightontothe specimenoverthecentreofthehole.Themaximumpene

29、trationofthebladethroughthematerialismeasured. 4.2Apparatus 4.2.1 Atestapparatusasdescribedin4.1ofEN412:1993withthefollowingmodifications: 4.2.1.1 Abladeholdingblockwithamassof110g2gincludingtheblade. 4.2.1.2 Acircularwoodorplasticspecimensupportblockofdiameter125 mm 5 mmandthickness 80mm20mmwithare

30、ctangularholeofwidth5mm0,5mm,length30mm1mmthroughitsfullthickness andatitscentre.Theblockshallbepositionedsothattheverticalbackofthetestbladeenterstherectangularhole 7,5mm0,5mmfromoneofitsshorterendswiththebladeequidistantfromthesidesofthehole. NOTE ThefleshsimulatingplasticmassreferredtoinEN412isno

35、tothenearest0,1mm,forexampleaverniercalliper. 4.3 Preparationoftestspecimens Takeaspecimen(220 20)mm (220 20)mmfromeachdifferentconstructionoftheclothingassembly.For particularconstructionsonlyavailableinsmallerdimensions,usethelargestspecimenavailableandadjustthe positionofthetensioningweightsasapp

36、ropriate.Forsheetmaterials,aspecimen(220 20)mm (220 20)mm shallbetakenandthetestprocedureshallaccuratelyreplicatetheuseofthematerial(s)infinishedgarments. Markonthetestspecimenthesixrequiredimpactpoints;includinganypointsinthetestarealikelytoprovidethe lowestlevelofprotection. Storethetestspecimenan

37、dreferencefabric(4.2.2)inanenvironmentof23C2Cand50%5%relative humidityforatleast24hbeforetestingandeithercarryoutthetestinthisatmosphereorimmediatelyafterithas beenremoved. 4.4Procedure 4.4.1 Thereferencefabric(4.2.2)isfoldedinhalftoproduceadoublethicknesscomprisingtwolayersofcanvas withthewarpsrunn

38、inginthesamedirection,withthetestspecimens(4.3)notfolded,buttestedassubmitted,to produceanassemblyapproximately200mm 200mm,andfollowtheproceduredescribedin4.4.2tomakesix cutsintothisassemblyat45tothewarp. 4.4.2 Usethedevice(4.2.3)tomeasurethethicknessoftheassemblytobetestedandrecordthisvalueas L 0 t

39、othenearest0,1mm. Placethetestassemblyoverthemountingblock(4.2.1.2)andclampitasdescribedinEN412sothatthelonger edgesoftherectangularholeintheblockarealignedwiththerequiredtestdirection. Gentlylowertheblockuntilthetipofthebladeisalmostincontactwiththeuppersurfaceofthetestspecimenand checkthattheblade

Activatethequickreleasemechanismtodropthebladeholdingblockontothetestspecimen.EN135954:2002(E) 7 Markthebladeatapointlevelwiththeuppersurfaceofthespecimenandremovethebladefromthespecimen. Usethedevice(4.2.3)tomeasuret
