14、andard shad be given the status of a National Standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by March 1995, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by March 1995. This European Standard replaces EN 14 : 1982. In accordance with the C

It also specifies the method of checking these dimensions and of marking them on the blank

18、ets. The standard does not apply to: a) fitted covers, b) electric blankets, the heating qualities of which derive essentially from an electric element rather than from any textile material, e) bedspreads, divan spreads, continental quilts and travelling rugs (quilted or unquilted, filled or unfille

19、d, lined or unlined) the characteristics of which differ from those defined in clause 2, d) textile articles that, although similar in nature to bed blankets, are not bed blankets in end use, for example rugs, sheets, protective sheets and underblankets, and special-purpose blankets such as animal b

20、lankets. 2 Definition For the purposes of this standard the following definition applies. bed blanket A textile article) of bedding made up before use and so designed as to provide thermal insulation to increase the comfort of the user by helping the body to retain the heat necessary to it, the ther

21、mal qualities of the blanket being dependent on: a) the volume of air retained between the fibres: by raising the two faces of the material (in the case of woven, knitted or tufted blankets) or, by the interlacing of the fibres themselves (in the case of needled and stitchbonded blankets, whether ra

22、ised or not); b) the type of constituent fibres and the method of assembly when the article is made from an unraised materiai. Descriptions and illustrated examples of types of bed blankets covered by this standard are given in annex A. 3 Designation A bed blanket with dimensions complying with the

23、requirements of this standard shall be designated by the following factors, in the order indicated. 3.1 The expression bed blanket. 3.2 Reference to this standard. 3.3 The dimensions of the blanket in centimetres, given in the order used in table 1 and in annex B. 3.4 An indication of the constituen

24、t material or materials, in accordance with any regulations or conventions in use in the country concerned. Examples: bed blanket EN 14 - 180 x 240 - 100 Yo wool bed blanket EN 14 - 300 x 240 - 100 % wool 4 Dimensions 4.1 The recommended common standard dimensions for bed blankets are given in table

25、 1. 1 An article, such as yarn or a woven or knitted item, the surface of which is constituted of staple fibres or filament materiais of natural or man-made origin. Tenders for private contracts may also require dimensions particular to specific needs, on condition that the blankets are not made avai

27、lable for resale to the public. 4.2 Supplementary to the dimensions recommended in table 1, the dimensions (or sizes) required to meet particular needs of some countries are given in annex B. 6 Tolerance on dimensions 5.1 Tolerance on the dimensions shall be -C 3 %. 5.2 Orders or tenders relating to

28、 large deliveries of bed blankets of the same size may specify that the average dimensions of blankets in a delivery shall not be lower than those of the appropriate standard size. 6 Method of checking dimensions If dimensions are in dispute, the procedure set out in 6.1 to 6.3 shall be followed. 6.

29、1 Sampling If the delivery is less than 1000 blankets, 1 % of the number (with a minimum of 3 blankets) shall be taken at random for testing. If the delivery is more than 1000 blankets, 10 blankets shall be taken at random from the first 1000 and then 2 from each successive 1000 blankets. 6.2 Condit

30、ioning The blankets taken for checking shall be conditioned by leaving them for at least 48 h in an atmosphere of relative humidity (65 ? 2) % and temperature (20 2 2) “C. 6.3 Test procedure After conditioning, each article shall be laid out straight and untensioned on a smooth flat surface. Any cre

31、ases and folds shall be removed and the dimensions then determined in the following manner, using a rigid graduated rule. Measure the length along one side, along the other side and midway between the two sides. The length is given by the mean of these three values obtained. Measure the width in the

32、 same manner as the length. 7 Marking Each blanket shall carry, clearly visible on a label securely attached to the blanket, the dimensions of the blanket, in centimetres, marked in one of the two ways indicated below: either: 180 x 240 or: 180 cm X 240 cm CEN *EN*hL4 94 m 3404589 0086655 310 m Page

33、 5 EN 14 : 1994 Annex A (normative) Classification of bed blankets (This annex contains technical details forming part of the standard). This classification of bed blankets to which the requirements of this standard are applicable is based on the most common manufacturing techniques. It is intended

34、to add to the categories listed if new manufacturing techniques are developed. A. 1 Categories The categories of bed blankets are as follows: woven blanket plain single face cellular double face tufted blanket needled blanket stitch bonded blanket knitted blanket lace blanket A.2 Definitions and exa

35、mples A.2.1 Wouen blanket A.2.1.1 Plain woven blanket Blanket made by weaving, either manually or mechanically, with one warp and one weft. The warp and weft threads may or may not be raised. EXAMPLE 1 : Plain woven blanket before raising (transverse section) weft thread warp thread These plain wove

36、n blankets can be one of the following types: A.2.1.1.1 Woven blanket, single face Plain woven blanket, raised on both faces. 37、roduced by weaving in such a way that regular spaces appear. It may or may not be raised. 39、.2.2 TiCfted blanket Blanket in which the threads are inserted into a previously woven fabric, forming bunches on the two faces of the supporting fabric. The two faces of the blanket thus made are raised. EXAMPLE 5: Tufted blanket before raising (longitudinal section) bunch of thread, raised 1 suppo

40、rting fabric threads passing into the reverse side, raised A.2.3 Needle-blanket Blanket obtained by needle-punching fibrous webs into a support. The two faces of the blanket thus made may or may not be raised. EXAMPLE 6: Blanket needled into a support t vertical binding web of fibres, raised or not

41、support web of fibres, raised or not A.2.4 Stitch bonded blanket Blanket consisting of a web of fibres the cohesion of which is maintained by threads forming lock stitches along the web.
