22、:2003(E) 4 Introduction StoneShieldsconformingtothisEuropeanStandardarearticulategarmentsintendedfortheprotectionof chest,optionallyofshoulders,backandbicepsspecificallyagainstloftedstonesanddebrissuchasthose ridersoftenencounterinoffroadmotorcyclingandinalliedsportsactivitieswherethesehazardsmayexi

23、st. Acompletestoneshieldprovidesprotectiontothewholeofthetorso. Theessentialpartofastoneshieldisthebreastguard,whichmaybeassociatedwiththeshoulderguards, thebackguardandthebicepsguards. Whenthestoneshieldsareintheformofarticulateassembliesthepartscanbeheldtogetherbydiversified joiningdevicesandcanbe

24、madeoutofmixedsoft/hardorhardmaterials(shells).Inthelattercasetheyare fittedwithsuitablepaddingontheinnersurface,andtheiredgesareroundedtoavoidbruisingoftheskin.EN14021:2003(E) 5 1Scope ThisEuropeanStandardspecifiesrequirementsandtestmethodsforthestoneshieldstobewornbyyouths andadultsofeithersextopr

25、ovidelimitedprotectionagainstloftedstonesanddebriswhileridingmotorcycles inmotocrossandotheroffroadactivitiesondirtroads. HencethisEuropeanStandardcontainsgeneralandperformancerequirementsforthematerialsutilisedand requirementsforsizes,shapes,markingandassemblymethodology. ThisEuropeanStandardisnota
