Smallchildrenaged13yearsareatparticularrisk,iftheydrinktheoildirectlyfromthelamps.Verysmall amountsoflampoil(probablylessthan80150mg/kgbodyweight)aresufficienttocauseseriouspulmonary complicationswithlethalcons
18、equences. Thissafetystandardforoillampsaimsprimarilytorestricttheaccessofsmallchildrentothelampoilcontainedin decorativeoillamps,butalsocoverssomeothersafetyaspects. Productscomplyingwiththisstandardshouldnotbeconsideredasbeingtotallysafe.Itisunrealistictoexpectthat childrenwillnotsometimesbeabletog
19、ainaccesstotheoilinthelamp.Nevertheless,itcanbeanticipatedthatthe riskofaccidentalpoisoningswillbesignificantlyreducedbyoillampsconformingtothisstandard. AttentionisdrawntothefactthatEuropeanregulationsforlampoilareinforcewhichwillhavetobecompliedwith incaseafilledoillampisplacedonthemarket. 1Scope
20、ThisEuropeanStandardspecifiesrequirementsandtestmethodsforoillampsusedfordecorativepurposesin households,inrestaurants,inrecreationalfacilitiesandinsimilarareas. Thestandarddoesnotapplytooillampsintendedtobeaprimarysourceoflightorforindustrialpurposes(e.g. securingofroadbuildingsites). Thepurposeoft

31、materials,food,orfoodandbeveragecontainers. 5Test methods 5.1General test conditions Theoillampshallbeassembledandfilledwithlampoilaccordingtotheinstructionsprovidedbythemanufacturer. Thedefaultfillingvolumeshallbeofthecontainervolumeunlessstatedotherwiseintheinstructions.Theoil lampshallbefilledatl
32、east2hpriortothetests.Testsareconductedwiththeoillampunlit. Allforcesshallbemeasuredwithanaccuracyof 5%,alldimensionswithanaccuracyof 0,5mmandallangles withanaccuracyof 1. Thetestsshallbecarriedoutintheordergivenbelow 5.2 Sharpedges,cornersandpointstest Checktoseewhethersharpedges,cornersandpointsex
