24、ntainedat adefinedtemperature.Thewebisaspiratedfromthedrums,togetherwithallloosefibres,leavinganysticky pointsexposedonthedrumsurfaces.Thestickypointsaredetected,measuredandcountedbyalaserbased opticalsystem.EN142783:2004(E) 6 5Apparatus 5.1Automaticsystem 5.1.1 General Theautomaticsystemcomprisesac

25、onveyorbelttofeedatestspecimenintothesystem,followedbyaseries ofdevicesthatpreparethecottonweb,generatethestickypoints,regulateandcleantheequipment,and detectthestickypoints. Thesequenceofthedevicesintheautomaticsystemisasfollows. 5.1.2 Microcarddeviceforthepreparationofthecottonweb Microcarddeviceh

26、asthefunctionofformingthecottonwebfromthetestspecimen. Itsmajorworkingpartsarealikerinroller,amaincylinder,threeworkerrollers,adoffingrollerandatakeoff roller.Themaincylinderandtherollersareeachcoveredwithstandardmetalliccardwireofatypeand densityappropriatefortherespectiveindividualrollerfunctions.

27、 Thedimensionsandrelativespeedsofthemicrocardrollersaresuchastodeliveracottonwebwithamass perunitareaof(4,0 0,2)g/m. Therelativespeedsandtheclothingofthemicrocardrollersaresuchastoensurecompletetakeoffofthe web,withnocontaminationoftherollers. 5.1.3 Rotatingdrumdevice Thedevicecomprisesapairofsmooth

28、hardenedsteeldrums,rotatingagainsteachotheratarotationspeed of(100 10)min 1 .Thecottonwebisfedundergravitytothetwodrumsandiscompressedbetweenthem. Thesurfaceoftherotatingdrums,incontactwiththecottonwebaremaintainedatatemperatureof(35 4) C(see5.1.4). Thesurfaceoftherotatingdrumsshallbecleanatthepoint

29、wherethewebisreceivedandthepressureis applied(see5.1.4). 5.1.4 Heatingandcleaningdevice Theheatingandcleaningdevicecomprisesthefollowingcomponents. Foreachrotatingdrumandrunningincontactwithit,acylindricalbrushrotatingat1800min 1 .Thecleaning elementoftherotatingbrushisconstructedfromamixtureofmetal

30、wiresandpolypropylenefilaments,in ordertobeaggressiveenoughforcleaningstickydepositsandhaveagoodwearresistance. Foreachrotatingdrum,touchingthedrumatatangent,ahardenedmetalscraperbladewhosefunctionis toscrapeawayanystickydepositsnotremovedbythecleaningbrushes. NOTE1 Foreachrotatingdrum,mountedincont

31、actwithasegmentofthecircumferenceofthedrum,andlocatedafter therotatingbrushesandthescraperblades,astationaryormovingrollercoveredwithwiperclothmadeofpolypropylene nonwovenmaterial. Foreachcleaningbrush,avacuumslotwhichremovesthematerialthatwascleanedfromthedrumby thebrush.EN142783:2004(E) 7 Amanualo

32、rautomaticcontrollerwhichregulatesthepressureexertedbyeachcleaningbrushuponits rotatingdrumaccordingtothetemperatureoftherotatingdrum,whichhastobemaintainedatacertain level(see5.1.3). NOTE2 Thisaggressivecleaningsystemisusedtocleanboththefibresandthestickymaterialsfromtherotating drumsinordertopreve

33、ntsecondrepeateddetectionofthesamedepositagain. 5.1.5 Webremovaldevice Thewebremovaldeviceconsistsofavacuumslotmountedjustundertherotatingdrums,whosefunctionis tocollectthecottonwebafterithaspassedbetweenthetworotatingdrums,leavingbehindanysticky depositsthatadheretotherotatingdrums. 5.1.6 Stickypoi

34、ntdetectionandanalysisdevice Thedetectionandanalysisdevicecomprises: Foreachrotatingdrum,avacuumslotismountedparalleltotheaxisofthedrum(5 0,2)mmfromthe surfaceofthedrum.Thefunctionistostraightenthefibresbeforecounting. Foreachrotatingdrum,alaserbeamisdirectedparalleltotheaxisofthedrum(1,0 0,1)mmfrom

35、the surfaceofthedrum,towardsaphotodiodeontheoppositesideofthedrum.Thelaserbeamof(0,20+/ 0,01)mmistargetedtoapinholeof(0,70+/0,01)mmdiameterinboththesourceandthetarget locations. Wheneverthelaserbeamisinterrupted,byoneormorefibresadheringtothedrum,asignalis generatedwhoseamplitudeanddurationdependson

36、theextentoftheinterruption.Aspecialsoftware algorithmisusedtointerpretthesignalsintermsofthetotalnumberofstickypointsandtheirsizes. Resultsarepresentedonthecomputerscreen. 5.2Balance Balanceabletoweighbetween3,5gand200g,withanaccuracyof0,1g. 6 Atmosphereforconditioningandtesting Theatmosphereforcond

37、itioningandtestingasdefinedinEN20139shallbeused. 7 Preparationoftestspecimens Conditionthecottonfibresample(laboratorysample)duringatleast24hinstandardconditions. NOTE Ifthecottonfibresamplehasahighmoisturecontent,samplepredryingcouldberequired,becausethe equilibriuminmoisturehastobereachedfromthedr
