27、tometalcorehavethefunctionofcreating regionsofhighsurfacepressureontheconformablesealingmaterialtoensuretherequiredleveloftightnessin service.Thedensityofthesealingmaterialintheserrationsduringserviceshouldalsobehighenoughtoensure thatsecondarysealingisprovidedbytheimpermeablenatureofthematerialbetw

TypesNRisusedonlywithspigotfacedortongueandgroovefacedflanges 4.4 Informationtobesuppliedbythepurchaser Theselectionofgasketmaterialsandtypeshouldtakeintoaccountthefluid,theoperatingconditionsandthe prop

32、ertiesofthegasketmaterialsaswellasthetypeofflange.Itisrecommendedthatselectionofagasketforany particularapplicationismadeinconsultationwiththegasketsupplierwhowilladviseonthematerialsrequiredfora particularservice(seeannexA). 5 Constructionaldetails 5.1 Generaldetails Figure1givesillustrationsofthec

33、oresand,whereused,thelocationringsofthethreetypesofcoveredserrated metalgasketlistedin4.3.EN15146:2003(E) 6 Figure2showsatypicalcoveredserratedmetalgasketforusewithtypeAandtypeBflanges,theTypeAandB flangefacingsarespecifiedinEN10921,EN10922,EN10923andEN10924. 5.2Core 5.2.1 Corematerials Thematerialo

34、fthecoreshallbeselectedtobecompatiblewiththeintendedservice.Thecorethickness, measuredoverthetipsoftheserrations,shallbeaminimumofthreetimesthedepthoftheserrations. 5.2.2 Corewelding Ifthecoreisofaweldedconstructionthenthemethodofweldingshallbesuchastoensurethattheweldis throughoutthefullthicknessof

35、thecore.Thenumberofweldsshallnotbemorethantwo. 5.2.3 Dressingofcorewelds Theweldsshallbedressedtopreservethenumberanddepthoftheserrationsoftherestofthecore. 5.2.4 Coreflatness Theoutofflatnessoftheserratedcoreshallnotbemorethan3mmforevery300mmofoutsidediameter. 5.3Serrations Theserrationdepthshallbe

36、aminimumof0,4mm.Thepitchoftheserrationandthewidthoftheserrationshallbe arrangedsothatthewidthofthetipsis0,1mm.Thefirstandlasttipsoftheserratedcoreshallbeasnearas possibletotherespectiveedgesofthecore. Proprietaryformsofserrationsandcoreprofilesmaybeusedbyagreementbetweenthepurchaserand manufacturer.

37、 Tominimisethepossibilityofvibrationinducedcrackingofthecore,theradiusatthebottomofthegroovesshallbe aslargeaspossible. 5.4 Locationrings 5.4.1 Integralring Thethicknessoftheintegralringshallbeaminimumof0,5mm.Thelocationringshallbeundercutonatleastone sidetoprotectthesealingelementintheeventoftherma

38、lexpansioninducedinterferencebetweenthelocationring andtheboltsoftheflange. 5.4.2Loose ring Thethicknessofthelocationringshallbeaminimumof0,5mm.Wheninstalledtheringshallbesufficientlyloose inthelocationslotinthecoresothatthermalexpansioneffectsnevercausetheringtobecometightinthelocation slot.Theloca

39、tionringmaybemadeinsectionsandassembledaroundthecore.Thesectionsoftheassembled ringshallbeeitherweldedtogetherorotherwisesecurelyheldtogether.Thematerialofthelooselocationringmay becarbonsteel. 5.5Facing materials Thefacingmaterialshallbeselectedtobesuitablefortheintendedserviceandthematerialofthefl

40、anges. Suitablematerialsrangefromverysoft,rubberbound,sheetmaterialtometalfoils. Thefacingmaterialmaybecutfromsheettotheappropriatesize,appliedintheformoftexturisedtapeorbyany othermeansthatmeetstheotherrequirementsofthisstandard.EN15146:2003(E) 7 5.6 Facingweightperunitarea Theweightperunitareaoffa

41、cinginordertocreatetherequiredleveloftightnessinserviceisafunctionofthe thicknessanddensityofthefacingmaterial,thedepth,widthandpitchoftheserrations,therequiredinservice densityofthefacingmaterialandthethicknessoffacingrequiredabovethecoreinservice.Theweightperunit areashallbesuchthatmetaltometalcon

42、tactbetweenthetipsoftheserrationsandtheflangesurfaceisavoided. Forguidance,asatisfactorylevelofsealingisroutinelyachievedwithgraphiteof0,5mmthicknessandadensityof 1,0gm/cm 3 asreceivedwhenusedwithacorewheretheserrationsare0,4mmindepthandtheserrationtipwidth is0,1mm. Ignoringtheeffectsofthethicknesso
