12、Fire service equipment”, the secretariat of which is held by BSI. This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by October 2011, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest

13、by October 2011. Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent rights. CEN and/or CENELEC shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights. This document supersedes EN 1846-1:1998. EN 1846 consists of the foll

14、owing parts, under the general title “Firefighting and rescue service vehicles“: Part 1: Nomenclature and designation, Part 2: Common requirements Safety and performance, Part 3: Permanently installed equipment Safety and performance. The significant changes with respect to the previous edition EN 1

15、846-1:1998 are listed below: - Clause 2, Normative references deleted (references moved to bibliography); - Terms and Definitions: - new presentation with two groups: General definitions and specific definitions; - definition of “motor appliance“ and “trailer“: new wording and no more reference to I

16、SO 3833; - addition of specific definitions which correspond to the previous 6.1 to 6.9 with editorial modification; - Mass classes: - lower and upper limits changed; - Categories: - addition of 3 notes to give explanations; - Vehicle designation: - Table 1 replaced by a list with mandatory elements

17、 and optional additional elements; - Examples modified according to the new designation; - Addition of a bibliography. 19、11EN 1846-1:2011 (E) 4 Introduction This document has been prepared in order to define a common designation system of firefighting and rescue service vehicles. It also identifies the main characteristics of any motor vehicle by a serial number and letter as defined in the following clauses which may

20、 be used in invitations to tender within Europe. BS EN 1846-1:2011EN 1846-1:2011 (E) 5 1 Scope This European Standard establishes classes and defines categories which are functions of the use and mass of the firefighting and rescue service vehicles and provides a designation system that gives the va

21、rious criteria used for characterizing the vehicles. 2 Terms and definitions 2.1 General definitions For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply NOTE For the purposes of EN 1846 series, the following definitions apply. Other specific definitions exist in the other pa

22、rts of EN 1846. 2.1.1 motor vehicle power-driven road vehicle which has four or more wheels, which is not rail borne, and which is normally used for carrying persons and/or equipment, towing vehicles used for the carriage of persons and/or equipment, special service 2.1.2 appliance covered motor veh

23、icle designed for carrying personnel and equipment 2.1.3 fire appliance appliance used for firefighting and/or rescue 2.1.4 trailer non-power-driven road vehicle which, on account of its design and appointments is used to transport persons or equipment and is intended to be towed by a motor vehicle

24、NOTE This definition also includes semi-trailer. 2.1.5 amphibious motor vehicle vehicle capable of moving on land and water 2.2 Specific definitions 2.2.1 pumping appliance fire appliance equipped with a pump, and usually a water tank, and other equipment required for firefighting and rescue purpose

25、s NOTE For firefighting pumps see EN 1028 series. 2.2.2 appliance for specific fire fire appliance with special equipment with or without special extinguishing media 2.2.3 high rise aerial appliance fire appliance incorporating a turntable ladder or hydraulic platform BS EN 1846-1:2011EN 1846-1:2011

26、 (E) 6 2.2.4 turntable ladder extending structure which is in the form of a ladder with or without a cage, slewed on the base NOTE See EN 14043 and EN 14044. 2.2.5 hydraulic platform HP elevating platform consisting of a work platform and a hydraulic extending structure, mounted on a base that is a

27、self propelled chassis NOTE See EN 1777. 2.2.6 rescue tender fire appliance equipped to undertake rescue operations NOTE Examples of rescue operations: location and rescue of people, accident recovery, forcing entry, animal rescue. 2.2.7 fire service ambulance motor vehicle operated by fire service

28、personnel and designed for the care and transport of patients NOTE 1 See EN 1789. NOTE 2 It may also include other facilities for the specific use of the fire service. 2.2.8 damage control tender fire appliance with specialised equipment and specific personal protective equipment (PPE) operated in p

29、articular conditions for rescue and limit damage to the environment NOTE Example of use: pollution hazard, chemical hazard, radiological hazard, biological hazard, salvage. 2.2.9 command and control appliance fire appliance with communication and other equipment to command operations 2.2.10 personne

30、l and equipment carrying vehicle fire appliance able to convey fire service personnel and their individual equipment 2.2.11 support vehicle fire appliance able to convey equipment or extinguishing media to reinforce an operationally engaged unit 2.2.12 other specialised motor vehicle fire appliance

31、designed for special or specific task BS EN 1846-1:2011EN 1846-1:2011 (E) 7 3 Mass classes All motor vehicles with gross laden mass (GLM as defined in 3.2 of EN 1846-2:2009) greater than 3 t are classified according to one of the following three classes depending on their GLM. Light (L) : 3 t 16 t.

32、4 Categories All motor vehicles are classified according to one of the following three categories depending on their road or off road capabilities: category 1 : Urban Motor vehicle normally used on constructed road surfaces. NOTE 1 Commonly category 1 vehicles have one axle driven. category 2 : Rura

33、l Motor vehicle capable of traversing all road and limited off road surfaces. NOTE 2 A distinction can be made between vehicles which commonly have all axles driven: with limited off road capabilities, with more off road capabilities, usually achieved by the provision of e.g. differential locking an

34、d single tyres. category 3 : All terrain Motor vehicle capable of traversing all road and cross-country. NOTE 3 Commonly category 3 vehicles have all axles driven with differential locking and single tyres. 5 Types of vehicles Depending on their main application, fire appliances are subdivided into

36、e, personnel carrying vehicle, support vehicle, other specialized motor vehicle. The different types of vehicles are defined in Clause 2. 6 Vehicle designation Designation of vehicles complying with EN 1846 series comprises: Type, Reference to EN 1846, Mass class, Category, If applicable: marking re

37、quired by the specific standards (EN and/or national). Possible complementary marking as defined in EN 1846-3, e.g.: Firefighting water tank capacity, Installed pump performance, Foam capacity, Monitor.
