AnassociatedstandardEN458covers
22、selection,use,careandmaintenanceofhearingprotectors. Therequirementsofthestandardareconcernedprimarilywiththephysicalandacousticperformanceoftheear muffs. Thesizingrequirementsenablethegreatmajorityoftheindustrialpopulationtobefittedsatisfactorilyby”medium sizerange”earmuffs.Populationsofothersizesm
23、aybeaccommodatedby”smallsizerange”or”largesizerange” earmuffs,whicharerequiredtobeaccompaniedbyinformationregardingtherangeofsizeswhichtheyare designedtofit. Thestandardalsocallsforthevaluesofsoundattenuationaffordedbytheearmuffs(measuredinaccordancewith EN248691)inordertoassistpurchasersinselecting
24、themostappropriatemodelofearmuffsfortheirneeds. Minimumvaluesofsoundattenuationarealsospecified. Amaximumvariabilityininsertionloss,measuredobjectivelyafteraseriesofperformancetests,isspecified.The objectivetestmethodonlyfacilitatesthemakingofcomparativemeasurements,andtheinsertionlossvalues obtaine
