AnassociatedstandardEN458,coversselection,use,careandmaintenanceofhearingprotectors. TherequirementsofEN3523arecon
23、cernedprimarilywiththephysicalandacousticperformanceoftheearmuffs fittedtoanindustrialhelmetwhichcomplieswithEN397. Thesizingrequirementsenablethegreatmajorityoftheindustrialpopulationtobefittedsatisfactorilyby”medium sizerange”helmetmountedearmuffs.Populationsofothersizesmaybeaccommodatedby”smallsi
24、zerange”or ”largesizerange”helmetmountedearmuffs,whicharerequiredtobeaccompaniedbyinformationregardingthe rangeofsizeswhichtheyaredesignedtofit. Thestandardalsocallsforthevaluesofsoundattenuationaffordedbythehelmetmountedearmuffs(measuredin accordancewithEN248691)inordertoassistpurchasersinselecting
25、themostappropriatemodelfortheirneeds. Minimumvaluesofsoundattenuationarealsospecified. Amaximumvariabilityininsertionloss,measuredobjectivelyafteraseriesofperformancetests,isspecified.The objectivetestmethodonlyfacilitatesthemakingofcomparativemeasurements,andtheinsertionlossvalues obtainedwilldiffe
26、rfromthemeasuredsoundattenuationvalues. Thelatter,whichrequirethehelmetmountedearmuffstobetestedwhilstbeingwornbyhumantestsubjects,is regardedasprovidingthereferencetestmethodforthemeasurementoftheacousticperformanceofhearing protectors.EN3523:2002(E) 5 1Scope Thispartofthestandardspecifiesrequireme
27、ntsforconstruction,design,performance,markinganduser informationforearmuffsfittedtoanindustrialhelmetwhichcomplieswithEN397. Inparticular,itspecifiesthesoundattenuationofthehelmetmountedearmuffs,measuredinaccordancewithEN 248691. Becauseonemodelofearmuffsdesignedtobeattachedtoanindustrialsafetyhelme
28、tcanbefittedtoanumberof helmetmodelsandsizes,thispartofthestandardsetsoutaseriesofphysicalandacousticrequirementsforthe earmuffswhenfittedtothespecifiedmodel(s)orsize(s)ofhelmet. Allrequirementsapplytotheearmuffsfittedtooneofthespecifiedmodelsorsizesofhelmet(thebasic combination),andanabbreviatedset
29、ofrequirementsapplytothesamemodelofearmuffswhenfittedtotheother specifiedmodelsorsizesofhelmet(thesupplementarycombinations).
