、 100: General 3 Apparatus A suitable magnetometer shall be a compass, capable of being read to within a fifth of a degree, and possess-ing a corresponding sensitivity. 4 Procedure The measurement of the compass safe distance, shall be made in a uniform magnetic field, the horizontal component of whi
、ch, has a value of 0,18 line/cm2+ 10 %. An area shall be marked out with magnetic North-South and East-West lines, and the magnetometer placed at the intersection of these lines. The cable tie under test shall be placed, with the head closest to the magnetometer, on the East-West line, at a distance
、 from the magnetometer, which gives a deviation of approximately 2. The cable tie is moved outward on the East-West line, until the magnetometer deviation is approximately half a degree. From readings taken at intervals during this movement, a curve shall be plotted showing compass deviation against
、 distance. As a check on experimental error, a curve shall also be plotted to correspond with an inward movement of the cable tie. The two curves shall be substantially coincidental and should be used to establish accurately, the distance at which one degree deviation of the magnetometer is experien
、ced. This distance, measured in millimetres, from the pivot of the compass, to the nearest point on the cable tie, shall be recorded as the compass safe distance. 5 Requirements The samples tested shall meet the requirements as specified in the appropriate product standard.
