However, attention is drawn to the fact that during the development of this amendment, the UK committee voted against its approval as a European Standard. CEN amendment A1:201
4、4 amends requirements for the control of pH during sample preparation. The amended test method necessitates the precise measurement of pH in low volumes of solution and without losses of liquid or solid particles. Experience has shown that pH adjustment during the extraction stage of the method is n
5、ot necessary for many common toy materials such as plastic, metal, textile fibres and most woods. The UK committee, CW/15, is of the opinion that the new requirements for pH control are superfluous in most cases and introduce further measurement uncertainties which may be more significant than those
6、 which the amendment attempts to address. These matters will be taken up during the planned future revision of EN 71-3. The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted to Technical Committee CW/15, Safety of toys.A list of organizations represented on this committee can be obtained on request

The limits for the migration of certain elements are expressed in milligram per kilogram toy material and are detailed in Table 2. The purpose of the limits is to minimise childrens exposure to certain potentially toxic elements.
