ThisEuropeanStandardprovidesguidanceontheselectionofnominalsizes,aswellastheinstallationoperation andmaintenanceoflightliquidseparatorsmanufacturedinaccordancewithEN8581.Italsogivesadviceonthe suitabilityofcleansingagentsiftheyaredischargedtoaseparator. 2 Normativeref

24、pply. 3.1 cleansingagent chemicalsubstancewhich,whencombinedwithlightliquids,initiallyformsanemulsionduringcleaningprocess thatrapidlybreaksdownintheseparator 4 Determinationoftypeandsizeofseparatorsystems 4.1General Separatorsystemsareusedinawidevarietyofsituationstofulfilanumberofdifferentrequirem

25、ents.Itisimportant toestablishwhyaseparatorsystemisneededandwhatspecificfunctionitisexpectedtofulfilbeforeselectingthe appropriatesizeandtypeofinstallation. Generally,separatorsystemsareinstalledforoneormoreofthefollowingreasons: a) totreatwastewater(tradeeffluent)fromindustrialprocesses,vehiclewash

26、ing,cleansingofoilcoveredparts orothersources,e.g.petrolstationforecourts; b) totreatoilcontaminatedrainwater(runoff)fromimperviousareas,e.g.carparks,roads,factoryyardareas; c) toretainanyspillageoflightliquidandtoprotectthesurroundingarea. Wherethereisnospecificsizingmethodgivenbyaregulatoryauthori

ClassIseparatorsprovideahigherdegreeofseparationthanclassIIseparators(seeTableB.2forapplications). 4.3 Sizingofseparators 4.3.1General Thesizingoflightliquidseparatorsshallbebasedonthenatureandflowrateoftheliquidstobetreatedandwil

31、l needtotakeaccountof: maximumflowrateofrainwater; maximumflowrateofwastewater(tradeeffluent); densityofthelightliquid; presenceofsubstancesthatmayimpedeseparation(e.g.detergents). Thesizingdoesnottakeintoaccountspecialoperationalconditions(see4.3.8). Thesizeoftheseparatorshallbecalculatedfromthefol
