4、Part 1 is intended to serve as a general document and deals with features that are likely to be common requirements for most tools. Subsequent Parts of this standard will cover details of the tools prepared as separate documents and may call up some or all of the requirements and tests of this Part

5、1, deleting such as are not applicable and adding others when necessary. Among additionai requirements to be specified in the detail tool specification may be the following : - type of frame; - dimensions and other particulars of dies, indentors, etc; - methods of, and devices for, the location of c

6、omponents during the crimping operation; - test requirements, including details of test pieces; andor die gauging methods; - part numbering systems, including additional marking requirements; - ordering information, including number of tool specification, tool and die references, as applicable. 11、and telecommunication terms and definitions given in the appropriate Parts of IEC 50(581) apply. In addition, the following definitions apply: 3.1 type tests Tests made to show that hand crimping tools initially meet the requirements of this Part 1 and the relevant Part 2 of this Standard; to be rep

12、eated at prescribed intervals thereafter. 3.2 production tests Selected tests repeated at prescribed intervals on samples from current production to confirm that the quality and performance of the product continues to conform to the requirements of this Part 1 and the relevant Part 2 of this Standar

14、n position, 3.4 full closure mechanism A mechanical device ensuring that once the closing of the handles has commenced, the handles can only return to the fully open position by completion of the closure of the tool. 3.5 test piece A device specifically designed to simulate during tests the mechanic

15、al characteristics of a component to be crimped. 3.6 crimpingies The component pairs or set of component parts of a crimping tool which, when applied to a terminal end, contact or other connecting device or portion thereof, deforms it over an electrid conductor or the insulation or braid to make a p

16、ermanent electrical connection. Crimping dies may be integral with a tool or removable and interchangeable. 3.7 hexagon crimp ) A crimped joint formed by the action of crimping dies shaped to impart a hexagonal form. 3.8 indentor A substantially wedge-shaped component part or set of component parts

17、of a crimping tool which through the action of the tool deforms a contact crimping barrel enveloping an elecricai conductor to form a crimped joint. 3.9 indent crimp1) A crimped joint formed by the action of an indentor or set of indentors. 3.10 locator A device fitted to a crimping die to serve as

18、an abutment to locate the terminal end, contact or connecting device during the crimping operation. i) Other crimping configuritions may be adopted in tite relevant Part 2 of this Standard. 19、to be crimped prior to and during the crimping operation. 3.12 turret A device fitted to a crimping tool containing more than one positioner which may be selectively brought into use without removing the turret. 3.13 open throat tool A tool which allows both axial and lateral access to the terminati

20、on barrel prior to and after the crimping operation. 4 Requirements 4.1 Materiais Hand crimping tools shail be manufactured from suitable materiais which, whenever practicable, shall comply with the requirements of appropriate European Standards. 4.2 Component parts Parts of hand crimping tools shaU

21、 be resistant to corrosion and, where necessary, be subjected to an appropriate protective treatment. 4.3 Tool operation Tools shaii operate and correcUy form the crimp without damaging the component to be crimped. On completion of the crimp, the handies and dies or indentors shall automatidy return

22、 to the fully open position. 4.4 Removable parts Removable parts, such as crimping dies and location devices shall be designed or marked to ensure that they can only be fitted to the tool in the correct manner. 4.5 Clearance and access Tools shall provide sufficient clearance around the crimp area t

24、ignment Tools, dies and indentors shall be designed so that the alignment between moving parts meets the requirements of the relevant Part 2 of this Standard. 4.8 Fui closure mechanism Tools shall incorporate a full closure mechanism. 4.9 Emergency release If an emergency release is fitted, it shall

25、 be so designed as to require specialist intervention before the tool is returned to normal use. 4.10 Aaustment The tool design shall be such that no adjustment can be made other than permitted by the relevant Part 2 of this Standard. 4.11 Jamming Tools shall operate freely and without any part jamm

26、ing so as to impair function during normal operation. 4.12 Workmanship Tools and ali parts shall be made and - part or reference number; - serialnumber; - such other markings (which may be extended to dies and location devices intended for use with the tools) as may be required by the relevant part

27、2 of this Standard. 28、 die references; - packaging requirements; - details of specific customer requirements. 5.3 User information Users arc recommended to seek the advice of the manufacturer regarding the preferred maintenance and inspection procedures. Specific recommendations may also be included in relevant Parts 2 o

The tool manufacturer shall supply the following: - full operating instructions with each tool; - test pieces and their associated gauges if required by the user. These shall be no less onerous than

30、 those specified in the relevant Part 2; - information on supply of user control gauges, if required by the user. 6 Tests and test methods 6.1 Test requirements - Tests in accordance with. 6.2 shaii be made to prove compliance with the requirements of this European Standard. The tests are intended a

31、s type tests and shall be repeated at intervals of not greater than six years. - Selected tests for production and sampiing purposes shall be repeated at intervals as prescribed in 6.2, or in the relevant Part 2, on samples fiom current production to confirm that the quality and performance of the p

32、roduct continues to conform to the requirements of this Part 1 and the relevant Part 2 of this standard. 6.2 Type tests 6.2.1 Sample size Unless otherwise specified in the relevant Part 2, three specimen tools and one set of piece parts shall be submitted to the tests in this clause. The tools shaii

33、 be complete and ready for use in accordance with the relevant Part 2. Where a tool, or tool series, covers a range of die sizes, the tests conducted shaU include the largest size and the smalles; size prescribed in the relevant Part 2 of this standard. 34、The sample shall be submitted to tests in the following sequence. 36、actory workmanship and finish; b) correct marking; c) Mom from defects and damage (after conditioning). NOTE: cert.in visuil examinations may require a degree of optid amgnificrtion not exding tima four. 6.4 Dimensions and gauging procedure The tools and their component parts shail be checked for co

37、mpliance with the requirements of the relevant Part 2 of this Standard in the following respects: a) outline dimensions and mass; b) dimensions of piece parts (inspection reports prepared at the time of piece part manufacture will fulfil this requirement); c) gauging. 38、perational tests The tools shall be operated in the normal manner to the fuil extremes of movements to verify the following: - correct functioning with and without dies and location devices, as appropriate, being fitted; - ease of insertion and removal, correct location and alignment of dies and loc

39、ation devices as appropriate; - correct functioning of full closure mechanism; - automatic return to the fuily open position. 6.6 Operating force (fuii closure mechanism) With the tools ready for use but unloaded, the handle compressior. force required to operate the tool and release the full closur

40、e device sha be measured and comply with the requirements of the relevant Part 2 of this Standard. 6.7 Operating force (crimping cycie) With the tools ready for use and loaded with a component or test piece as specified in the relevant Part 2, the handle compression force required to complete a crim

41、ping cycle shaii be measured and comply with the requirements of the relevant Part 2 of this Standard. 6.8 Overload force With the tool ready for use but unloaded, a force shali be applied as prescribed in the relevant Part 2. The rate of appiication of the force shall be 25 N/s max. The overload fo

42、rce sha be maintained for a period of 30 s. On removal of the force the handles of the tool shall return unaided to the fully open position. After this test the tool shaii be subjected to the foliowing tests: - visual examination in accordance with 6.3; - gauging in accordance with 6.4; - operating

43、force (full closure mechanism) test in accordance with 6.6; - operating force (crimping cycle) test in accordance with 6.7. 44、to return automatically to the fuliy open position after each cycle. The relevant Part 2 shall define as appropriate: - the number of crimping cycles; - whether the tool is loaded or not; - permissible adjustments, cleaning and luhication during the tests; - other requirements e.g. tool handle force

After this test the tool shall be subjected to the following tests: - visuai examination for defects and damage in accordance with 6.3; - gauging in accordance with 6.4; - operating force (full closure mechanism) test in accordance with 6.6; - operating force (crimping cycle) test in accordance wi

46、th 6.7. 6.10 Sait misi The tool with the indentors or die faces (in the case of a ke die tool) suitably protected by waterproof grease or the dies removed (in the case of a tool with removable dies) shall be subjected to the cyclic sait mist test with Severity 2 of HD 323.2.52 S1: 1987. After the te

47、st the tool shall be Wiped clean followed by rinsing in distilled water and then allowed to dry for one hour at a temperature of (55 f 2) “C and aliowed to cool to mm tcmpcrahire (+15 OC to +35 OC). It shaU then be subjected to a repetition of the following tests: - visual examination for defects an

48、d damage in accordance with 6.3; - gauging in accordance with 6.4; - operating force (fuii closure mechanism) test in accordance with 6.6; - operating force (crimping cycle) test in accordance with 6.7. 49、 crimping The tool together with two components for crimping as specified in the relevant component specification shall be maintained at a temperature of (-15 f 2) “C or as required in the component specification for one hour. Crimps shall be made using the tool and test pieces immediately after removal from the cold chamber. After recovery at room temperature (+ 15 OC to +35 OC) for one hour the tool shall be subject to gauging in accordance with 6.4.
